My gf (now wife) got into KOF 13 just by watching me play. She’s not good execution wise but she surprised me at the outset because she never mashed or jumped around, all around paid attention to what was going on.
I guess they just gotta be interested then you can help them out by teaching execution and fundamentals.

I can get my wife to play fighters /sometimes/. The problem is Third Strike is a brutally difficult game. She has definitely surprised me before with blocking and parrying and all of that. She’ll even watch the major tournaments with me. But she still prefers her League of Legends (which is fine, since I find LoL to be relatively relaxing if I just want to take it easy). Also, though, she sees it as beneath her to play Chun just to try to win. Her favorites are Elena and Hugo, so she keeps with those. She actually connects some nice links sometimes, too. But I say compromise. Play something she likes, then have her give 3S some time in return. And encourage her when she does well.

Yah, I have a friend who does the same thing. He just considers all combos, be they canceled or linked, to be links.

Hugo’s Clap recovers very fast and does big hitstun, so he does technically have links. Elena also has at least one or two links to SA2 and maybe even SA1. Granted they’re far less used than her cancels, but they’re there. If she does use them though, then that’s pretty sick. It’s like if she knew how to do Dudley’s “Punch into Cross Counter”.
Hugo has a lot of links, mainly involving his claps. Get your shit together, jeez.
