I’ve played the SF series for years but I live on Guam and I can’t say that the local SF scene is anything special. That said, I am simply amazed at the level of play I’m seeing on youtube, online etc.
I assume that this question may differ per character selection and matchup but I am directing it in general so here it is.
Lets say I’m using dudley, and I execute a basic throw. At that point I assume I have two legitimate offensive options:
- dash in and throw a meaty cr. lp
- walk forward and try to cross-up with an air attack
So far in dudley videos I haven’t seen too many people trying to cross up their opponent after a knockdown but I definitely see it with ryu and other characters. What do you base your decision on? I mean, if I knockdown ryu, I am susceptible to a wakeup dragon punch but even if i try a meaty attack on the ground aren’t i still susceptible to the same thing?
When I think about option selects, I get even more confused. I mean, the dragon punch animation will beat out all of dudley’s moves right? So if I challenge ryu/ken/akuma how do i follow up off a knockdown if i always have to be wary of a reversal? can I buffer a backdash into a meaty attack and possibly avoid the dragon punch?
Following the same thinking, what would i do against high priority command throw characters like zangief or t hawk? am I forced to not enter with a meaty or cross up when they have EX bars available? I dont understand how you can stay on teh offensive without being susceptible to a reversal in these situations
Forgive me as I’m really new to competitive SF and I really just want to improve my game. Just got my TE stick last night after years of playing on console so its kind of a good opportunity for me to start from the beginning and learn the basics.
Thanks in advance.
edit: should this be put in the “Newbie Saikyo Dojo”? If so, sorry in advance.
