How do you deal with charges?

Maybe it’s just me, but the charges seem different in this game. I was able to pull them off flawlessly on the old HSF2 Cabinet in my arcade, or on my dreamcast arcade stick or the official Dreamcast controller, but on the 360 controller they only seem to come out half of the time.

It’s pretty frustrating being stuck to shotos because I can’t seem to charge anymore.

Also, Zangief’s new super combo is both a blessing and a curse. I’m still stuck in 360P mode.

It’s probably just the curse of the controller, I don’t have any problem pulling them off on a stick.

Tried like, 5 360 controllers so far and none of them gave me that instant sonic boom/flashkick satisfaction of the DC pad. Maybe I’m overthinking it?

Try the thumbstick, trying to make a straight line on the 360 pad can be iffy half the time. It’s been so long that I’ve played a fighter on that pad, but back when I played DOA I used the thumbstick for some moves because the pad would only do them half of the time. Obviously switching from pad to stick in order to charge won’t really work in SF, but just see if it comes out more on the stick. Then you could either a) play with the thumbstick or b) buy a joystick.

Your problems is that you’re using the 360 controller.

Yeah, probably. Feels higher quality than the Dreamcast controller and doesn’t cramp/tear up your hands like the DC pad does, but precision input seems harder.

Saving cash for the SFIV stick that Madkatz is putting out, pretty pumped.

was just going to say that.

It was determined on pretty much the day the system came out that the d-pad was junk for fighters. I didn’t know people didn’t know that.

It’s the controller, not you. the 360 dpad is fucking horrible, and the stick isn’t any good either. it has no goddamn deadzone so you’ll be doing inputs you didn’t mean without even knowing it.

^ Dude, make sure you like Japanese parts before you buy one. The Mad Catz TE stick will essentially be the best you can buy, but if you grew up on American cabs there is a fair chance you will absolutely despise it no matter how hard you try to adapt. (In this case, your alternatives would be MAS, Arcade-in-a-Box, or a custom.)

The 360 pad is mysteriously terrible. It feels like it should be excellent but there is absolutely no accuracy in that thing. Precision is quite simply not an option with it. People always talk about how crappy it is but what really amazes me is how much it makes you want to believe it isn’t, even though it really is that crappy!

Man, the 360 D-pad is some bullshit. I resubscribed to live for a month to get the beta for HD remix, and I didn’t even fucking play it except for twice because all I had was the 360 controller. Then again, pads suck in general for charge characters. I don’t know how the fuck I’ve been doing it for 14 years. I made the switch to stick like 6 months ago, and only really started using it exclusively 2 months ago. You’d be surprised how quickly you adapt to a new controller when you’re losing because of botched execution. Just get a stick man and don’t look back.

Yeah, I was actually playing around with the difference between my PS2 KoF American parts stick and my friend’s custom dreamcast stick with Japanese Parts. While I love the feel of the buttons, it feels like something’s missing.

Playing Zangief with this controller is a bitch. Either that or his special is bugged. For fuck’s sake, why is a ten+ year old dreamcast controller easier to pull off his super with than a state of the art wireless piece of art like the 360 controller?

Here one of these might work for you, it did me befor i got a stick…Good Luck man.

If you’re stuck using a 360 pad, the analogue stick is better than the D-Pad. Still not ideal by a long shot, but I was able to adjust to it prior to getting my stick, and it worked out fairly well. The D-Pad on the other hand…
