Hello people, I’ve been playing Street Fighter Third Strike for about 4 years now, I mainly used to play down in the arcades but have started playing more at home on the mame emulator(my arcade stick sucks, made the mistakes of buying an xarcade a few years ago) and was just wondering for the people who can finish the game with a big score, what methods they use. I play with ken and try to perfect, stun the oppenent, then when they are stunned combo a shoryken with SA2. The way I do this is jumping at the oppenent at the right time and hitting them with a fierce punch or kick and a fierce uppercut and I’ve mastered the timings quiet well. Obviosly as the game goes on and with certain oppenents you cant use this tactic so i mix it up best i can and try to lose the smallest amount of life against opponents such as gouki and the like. My highest score is around 4.5 million, would be intrested to read what other people have managed.
Btw I have achieved the highest grade possible M.S.F , this was at the arcades a few years ago and it was on Urien!
Hate to break it to you, but you’re not gonna be able to get much help regarding high scores in 3S arcade mode. Come back when you want to hear about improving against human opponents.
I’m not asking for help on this thread, I just wanted to DISCUSS strategy and how people play in arcade mode to achieve high scores
Lots of hits on combos would be the way to go I would assume, so Yun lunge punch, lunge punch, lunge punch, GJ combos?
-play as Gill
-cr.hp
-psycho headbutt x2
-seraphic wing
Disclaimer #1: arcade 3s has a different point system compared to console 3s. Most notable, a perfect is worth much less on console than on arcade. Also CPU behaviour is different (console is harder and has more varied patterns)
Your first aim should be to NEVER lose a round, in order to get the “Complete” bonus at the end of each fight, which increases for every consecutive fight with no losses.
Getting perfects is also a big of course, and a double perfect is worth more than two separate perfects against separate opponents. When I used to go for hi scores I would always restart if I couldn’t get a double P on at least the first opponent.
Then, a BIG boost to the score is getting MSF as the final grade (which is not as hard as obtaining it in a single fight). Final MSF score adds a whole 3 million points to your score (but be aware that you get that bonus only on the final record screen, after the credits. Your score as you beat Gill is pre-grade bonus). How to reach that? always get the complete bonus, and try to mantain high grades throughout your playthrough. Big boosts for grades are stunning your opponent, and the super finish. Aim for that in every round. Consecutive successfull parries are also good for the grade AND each consecutive parry gives an increasing point bonus (up to 10k per parry!) - if you learn about a cpu pattern, exploit it to gain lots of points (I’ve seen players like PinoAB7 and Rikimaru playing vs CPU and using this technique a lot).
Smaller but still significant boost to the grade is “variation”, as in using a good variation of moves during the fight (landing at least a throw and an UOH each round seems to help).
Last but not least, the bonus stages - aim for the “EXCELLENT” bonus on the Car, and go for the perfect on basketballs (adjust the level to the one you can consistently do)
Been wondering about the car bonus stage for years but never got around to asking anyone on SRK. What is the best way to get an “EXCELLENT”? Doesn’t seem to be just about doing it as fast as possible. At one point I thought it might be effected by move variation so I would try to work in all of the characters specials and a super. One time I got it in arcade by just mashing ex legs with Chun though.
Useless question but I’m curious.
Deform the left side then do the rest on the other side.
So after you get your results in arcade mode what do the SP points or glowing orbs mean?
You get an SP point every time a grade for a fight is better then the previous one.
I don’t know how they exactly influence the final score/grade… but they help
I didn’t even know it worked like that. That’s good to know man thanks!
This whole time j thought SP points were given if you won both rounds with supers rofl
I think you need a certain amount of sp points plus not losing a round to fight Q, and of course fighting him boosts your score by a lot to get the msf and high score…btw for the SUV for the characters I use I usually beat up the first side until the light pops off, then jump on top the car and beat it til the top is flat, then jump to the other side and destroy the rest til it falls then KO it for excellent.
certain characters always seem to get better grades for some reason
but ,in general, here’s what you should be doing in every round :
- as many blockings as possible
- stun your opponent
- PA once or twice (better if done in the middle of a combo aka when your opponent is stunned)
- super combo finish
point #2 , 3 and 4 are particularly important if you want to get good grades (A at least)
if you add blockings to the mix then you start getting SS , XS , etc
add perfects and you might get MSF
in other words :
you should stun your opponent then perform your PA and then finish the round with a super
characters with multi-hit grabs have a major advantage…
here are a couple of my best scores :

they’re alright but nothing special,though
the best japanese scores are all over 10M if memory serves me right
What’s PA? parry attack?
And fuck Gill.
Fuck you Gill. Fuck. You.
PA = Personal action = Taunt
Honestly the grades aren’t much of an indicator for how well you did, though. You can use makoto and do karakusa, combo, karakusa combo repeat over and over throughout the whole game and you will get a very good score. Still, that is just one character. I have a few more insights on this but I’ll wait til the discussion reaches that point because this place is a circle jerk palace and I get kind of bored of having to respond to the same gimmick over and over.
Does getting first hit influence the grade? Not sure.
