KoF13 isn’t hard. Maybe compared to SF4, but if you compare it to KoF2k2 or KoF98, KoF13 is fucking easy breezy mode… It has easy ass inputs too…
Oh, you want to do DP xx HCBx2 super cancels?
:hcb:, :f:+attack, :hcb:+attack
The DP gets buffed into the entire HCB. makes zero fucking sense, but it works.
There’s also the holding thing I only recently was told about. Basically, you want something to come out? Just hold the button and it buffs it so that it comes out at the earliest possibly frame. Makes linking shit so much easy.
KOF doesnt have hard inputs if you know the tricks.
cr.lk cancelled into 2x hcf sounds hard, but if you do it like that.
l, dl, d + lk, df, f, hcf its easy and fast to do.
edit.
fireball cancelled into 2x qcf? Just do qcf + punch for the fireball then just one! other qcf insteadt of two, do it fast and it also works.
KOF is quite easy, there are a lot of strings.
SF4 is much harder.
No offense taken. Maybe no progress is a little bit of an overstatement, but I still feel I haven’t made much. To be more specific I’m having trouble with the bnb combos, they all seem to involve juggling and I keeping messing up the timing. I feel like I can pull moves off when there is nothing to react to. If I have to react to what my opponent is doing I can never get it right, even if my opponent is just falling. It’s like I panic and I forget how to do any inputs properly.
I think I’ll try my hand at superman, thanks for the advice.
What game would you recommend? Alot of people have been saying AE, but I was thinking of waiting for ultra to come out before making a purchase. I’ve seen threads that said sfa2 was good for fundamentals, but I was kind of hoping to play a game that I could play against people online. I know people still play it on ggpo, but there generally are not a lot of people on there, or at least there aren’t for sfa2.
Most BnB’s in SF4 require 1 frame links. Most BnB’s in KOF13 are chains, and are super easy.
SF4 has retarded stuff like plinking, where 13 has awesome stuff like ‘hold button to do special.’
The movement in KOF13 is harder, no question.
SF4 has a bunch of junk that stems from bad game design that you don’t have to deal with in 13. Like unblockables, vortex shit and characters that are horrible.
It’s much easier to learn a character in 13.
All the HD shit in 13 is hard to learn, but you don’t need those to play 13 well.
KOF13 being a difficult game to learn is a complete myth.
That’s not what he’s talking about. He’s talking about people overexaggerating how difficult it is to perform combos. Some, like Leona, Ash, Goro… they’re hard to use. Others like the Kyos, King… They’re not hard at all. The hardest thing is movement. If you’re talking about KoF98, then YES that execution is hard as fuck. But 13? Nope.
Depending on who you start playing on AE, I would watch videos on how others play. When I first started playing, I always mashed my way out/react with some special move whenever I am stuck/put in a situation. I didn’t know if I should be blocking or attacking. This is where it gets tricky, there are times where you have to just block and do nothing (block strings) there are times where you can react according to the situation(DP, reversal). You’ll notice how come that player just sat there and blocked or why that player chose to either backdash or throw out a simple normal to the situation. I also had a hard time learning to have a patient game. I either jumped in or threw a fireball whenever I possily could. A lot of the good players out there are not mashing fireballs/normals for no reason but because of calculated risks and spacing that allows them to mash certain moves. This is where fundaments become helpful. There are a lot of good tutorials out there that help with the fundamentals of this game. Vesperarcade has a comprehensive tutorial that I highly recommended. Seth Killian 101(not sure of the name) has a in depth approach with the mental game on SF. Try and absorb something new each day, practice simple reactions but most of all keep it fun
This is as much a lie as “combos are hard to do in KoF13.” 2 frame links are very common and necessary. 1 frame links are going the extra mile to inch out damage.
If you think plinking does anything but make SF4 easier to get into, you’re crazy. It’s a glitch that you can use to get more consistent execution.
Probably true.
Yeah, you only have to deal with early jump-ins that are impossible to anti-air and full life HD combos. Wow, it’s almost like both of us are just dissing the other person’s game with half-true info. Maybe we should just both stop?
Vortexes are just mixups that lead into themselves, it’s not like that’s new to SF4 (ST Balrog throw loops, GGXXAC Millia, MvC2 Magneto, BlazBlue’s everything, Persona’s Narukami…)
And you have to learn 3.
Actually, the HD shit being incredibly game-changing is the #1 complaint I hear about the game from people who actually play KoF competitively. I would basically use the same argument for a lot of stuff in SF4, that solid play will win out until you get to the very top level. But then you get to the point where the HD combos are completely necessary, and you should base your game around them.
I’m sorry, I’m just really sick of people trying to evangelize to their favorite game in this forum. This isn’t general discussion. I don’t see why you want to bring up this stuff here.
When your first starting out don’t try to go for the character’s hardest combos just try to learn 1 or 2 simple combos and once you get a good feel of the game you can start learning other things also read the fourms about your character(s) and watch match videos an see what they do.
Being a previous keyboard player, I blame it on the arcade stick. I’ve been using a Hori for over 2 years and when compared to the keyboard, coordination dropped a lot in most fighting games and loses multiplied. I have to be very concentrated on situation that would be a breeze to escape from, had I used a keyboard.
Not that I dont loose this way too, but at least I avoid half the BS that happens with an arcade stick…
Still I’ll recommend to continue with the arcade stick.
Only exception are Skullgirls and Vampire Savior. their mechanics allow smoother gameplay with an arcade stick.
If you decide to work with SSFIV AE, here is a link to a series all about SSFIV and will give you a great deal of insight into the mechanics and execution.
