When I knew nothing about the competative world, I picked Ken because he embodies AWESOMENESS!!! His SRK has flames and was “supposedly” the faster of the two.
Now, my more productive main is Bison (Dictator). His normal and pokes toy with opponents and can have a decent rush. Ken is my second, I play with him when I’m just goofin off, but has a pretty decent mixup game.
Sagat was known to be top tier during the arcade location tests in summer '08. He has been pretty much a known number 1 since the game dropped in arcades in '08.
Yes those posts seem off to me too, what I mean in the first post to shogun is that I didn’t mind playing low tier character and in my second post I was just saying that playing as Zangief seemed ez mode and most of my wins were due to BS.
For me,I choose Cammy for SF4. When I choose a character to use it depends on what the character’s personality is,how much fun they are to use and if I feel comfortable using them. I am that way with all the fighting games I play. I will try various characters until I find the right one.
I picked Bison because he seemed like the best compromise of fun factor, execution requirements, and overall ability to win matchups. He wasn’t too powerful, but he wasn’t too weak. He had good normals and good footspeed on top of easy combos in exchange for low incidental damage and poor reversals. He seemed like the best platform on which to learn how to footsie in SF4 without a fireball, which was important to me because I came from a casual CvS2 background and I realized quickly how fast garbage footsies can get you killed.
Basically, I just used him as a platform to learn SF4 on because he seemed to me to play the most like a CvS2 character. The fact that he was a badass flying drug lord (which is still pretty goddamn awesome) was really a side benefit more than anything else.
Bison because he’s a “badass flying drug lord”, pretty much.
Makoto because when you grab their neck and choke them, they know they’re in for a world of hurt afterwards.
Guile because of this video and i’ve always loved the “sonic BOOM” voice.
Also, watching free1up play bison just makes you want to play bison… nuff said.
Well, I must say i havent found my main yet. I mainly use who i know off of common knowledge and go from there. With Super, it feels like a complete reset to who’s useful in terms of my playstyle, since my friends and I have decided im a very smart, technical player. I feel as if I can add control of a match, and add mindgames to the mix, I can become much better.
I started Dic-ing around with Dictator when I saw the Inoue vs Daigo videos on youtube. I switched mains from Akuma to Dic when I realized that his playstyle suited me more and I was more comfortable with charge motions.
Sakura has always been my main and I’ve always seen her as high tier, but this is probably due to Rival Schools and that being one of my first fighting games. She was GOD tier in that game I swear
Back in '91, I always played everybody, but always played shotos more. I used shotos as my main characters all through high school back in '93 - '95. It took me till now to realize that it’s really not who looks the coolest, or who is top tier/bottom tier and whatnot, it’s who you are most comfortable with. So I guess in a sense, I didn’t pick my main, my main chose me.
