How did you pick your main?

Cammy because no one knows that you can punish her dp on block with anything.

so much cognitive dissonance here it’s INCREDIBLE

The games I compete in tournaments for are games that I have grown up with since childhood and still going today like Tekken, Soul Calibur and Street Fighter. I pick my characters based on sentimental value/ first character I’ve ever used. The last SF that I played in order from SF2 was SFA and then I just never went back to SF because I got into Tekken and Soul Blade. I played Third Strike casually. So, when SF4 came out, I didn’t buy it because I missed most of SF3 and I guess the SF EX games if those count. Then, I found out Guy was gonna be in SSF4 and that revived my interest in SF. He’s a character I can personally relate to(especially after watching his SSF4 intro) and I think that using a character such as that drives me to stick with him no matter how easy/hard it is to learn him. So I went through all the Alpha games and got used to his basics and storyline. I always used Ryu as a default but now that a character like Guy is in the next installment of SF, I’m definitely picking it up:)

I played Blanka for about two minutes, and after I bit off my brother’s face with his blanka bite in Super Turbo, I kept playing him. Eventually, I figured out how to actually get decent with him, and now, I bite my brother’s face even harder.

Cody, because he’s a badass.

well personally, i started off using ryu in sf4 , and then got down my basics of how the game worked. then learned that sagat is just pretty much a more harder version of ryu , and moved to him . now that ssf4 is here moving towards the rush down type and saw how ibuki played and omg , sick ~! (kinda like C.Vips) [sucks that i can only use one character in each game though] :\ now i can use 2

… I don’t see that, sure he’s slow, but damn he’s powerful

I picked Guile because I was inspired by a guy who beat the shit out of me with Guile. Played Guile just to try him afterward, and his technical requirements of skill both intrigued and captivated me.

I picked Abel because of a horrible match-up with Balrog using Guile. And I just kept with him.

I picked ryu cause…well there’s something about not being able to be called cheap with him ( since it’s usually Mirror Matches)

I like off-the-wall, weird looking characters who are considered uncool by most standards.

Thus I play Dhalsim and Honda (and plan to pick up Hakan in SSF4).

This.
Woke up at 3am in the morning, played Bison and then beasted from then on.

And I’m serious when I say that when that happened, it was Tuesday.

I always played with Ken until about a year and a half ago when HDR came out for the 360 I bought it and played it a whole bunch but everrrrryone I was playing online were Ken Ryu or Bison and I always loved Bruce Lee and pretty much never saw Fei Long so I started playing and having tons of fun with it so I’m sticking with it for now. Interested in Ibuki because she looks neat and also in Yuri bc Im also into taekwondo :stuck_out_tongue:

My mains honestly depend on the game. I’ve had a different main in just about every iteration of the SF franchise.

SF2 was always Blanka for some reason. I remember going to the arcade as a kid, and seeing the green beast throw himself across the screen in a ball was awesome. Out of all the cool characters that this series has seen. Blanka is/was/always will be my favorite character.

Playing SF2 Turbo, I went with Ryu/Ken. It was the fireball zoning that I really enjoyed.

The Alpha series saw me using Rolento/Cammy. This is when I really started to like rushdown strategies versus turtling/charge characters. I’ve always been better with QC characters anyway.

When SF4 hit, I was just messing around with the characters. After unlocking Cammy, I decided to give her a shot. I liked the range of her low kicks, and how it could keep me a safe distance going up against someone. That, and my friend was playing Gief a lot, and staying low with the drill helped me to gain some “W’s.”

Now that SSF4 is upon us. It’s Dee Jay for me. I’ve been doing nothing but practicing with charge characters for the past few weeks now just to get some sort of preparation in. I’ve got the buffering down, and the motions with the stick are now comfortable enough to where I’m able to pull of some decent combos. Can’t fucking wait for Tuesday.

I always thought Muay Thai was cool so I decided to pick Sagat, I’ve stuck with him ever since.

More detailed, I always bounced around characters. I never really took the chance to actually “learn” a character, the SF IV was announced years later and I decided to get serious about playing. At the time I thought Muay Thai was cool and I’ve always been interested in Sagat as a character so I used him on SSF2 HD RMX, I was getting owned left and right and decided to try someone new. i moved on to Bison and was loving his moves but not really learning them, I ended up using Sagat again in SF IV because I hated trying to time charge attacks, I did a pretty good job of learning his moves but I ended up trading in my xbox when I was unemployed, a few months back I bought my xbox again and held off on vanilla because I herd of super coming out, so for the past few days since LA Fight Night, I’ve been practicing on HD RMX with Sagat.

I had a different character for each SF series.

SF2 is use DeeJay mostly.
SFA Sakura/Rolento/Karin
SF3 Dudley/Akuma
SF4 Balrog mostly

Before I decide on a character, I like to play with them all a little bit. Sometimes a character just fits you and that’s who I stick with, the character that fits.

I just fell in love wiht Blankas style, I also loved the fact that not a lot of people seemed to use him, so I would destroy Ken/Ryu guys most of the time. It was a good feeling, I also like the Blanka character, he’s a raging beast with a childs mind and a good heart.

Though I’ve not decided on a main yet for SSF4, I wanna play Cody,
A. Because were both forever bored with everything lol.
B. Because he was my main in A3.
C. he looks good.
However it bothers the hell outta me that so many people are prob gonna play him, I know it shouldnt, but it does lol.

… 'Dat ass.

Me picking mains is a very long story but to cut it short…i’ve always been a ‘‘shoto’’ player (my 1st SF game was A3, when i was using Akuma, Cody & Rolento…the other 2 ain’t shotos i know, lol) i even tried to use charge characters & others (Fei Long, Elf, Rose, Cammy & Dan) but i knew i’d always be using Ken & Sakura, i enjoy using them alot and that won’t ever change even when Super comes out…

Of all the casts in Street Fighter 4, Fei Long looks the most inane, inspiration from Bruce Lee notwithstanding. About the most outrageous thing he does is the flame kick. The rest of his move set consists of thoroughly mundane punches and kicks. At first I played him out of curiosity, because he must have something that makes him stand out among the game’s roster. I’m not sure I found my answer yet, but he’s become something of a habit.

Imagine how I felt as a Sagat user with vanilla. I was one of the few people using him at first, then the tier list was released and I was one in many.

Sagat due to being a bit cheap when playing my friends but now ive switched to Chun Li because it’s simply a lot more fun and a lot more varied. Sucking is a price im willing to pay to get a new feeling for the game
