I played around with a number of dif characters (Cody, M. Bison, Sakura, and Viper) I ended up picking on Makoto because
A. I like just how different she is from most of the cast in terms of her game play.
B. I thought she was cute, and I always loved cute but tough chicks.
Back when I played Vanilla on my friends xbox I usually played Viper/Sakura. I loved Final FIght (was one of the first SNES games I ever owned.) and I loved Cody’s slacker attitude. And in SF2 Champ edition for SNES I usually played Bison or Ryu.
Come v.2012 I’ll probably still play Makoto but rather than play her nearly exclusively I’ll probably pickup one of my others. Viper seems like a good pick since I’m a masochist for losing horribly >_<
I played Ken since SF2CE on SNES…because my friend had Ryu at the time.
But it was Ken in the Alpha series that made me stick with him in every other SF incarnation.
Just seems like the cooler shoto IMO.
Thought Gouken was the most badass character ever. I was pretty much better with most other characters than I was with Gouken. Put in some work, now I do fairly well. Sad part is Im sure that I could change mains, and catch up to my Gouken in no time, and perform better overall.
First FG I loved was mvc2. Favorite char, and first one I ever started playing was Omega Red. So now after wasting a lot of time playing other style characters I don’t like, in multiple games, I realized how much I love ranged pokes and normals, keepaway, and mobility.
So my qualities I like in a character is:
Range/Footsies
Mobility/Speed
Style that I like
So ssf4 I used to play DJ (style), and Yun (style). But now I’m starting on Gen (range/mobility), Vega (range/mobility), and Sakura (range and style). Mvc3 I design my team around chars that fit my style such as Super Skrull, and Dante, and when umvc3 drops Ghost Rider, and Nemesis. Blaz Blue I like Hazama, Skull Girls I’m going to try Parasoul.
You have to find what style you like? What was the first character you liked, or which characters do you like and why? Then find characters with similar qualities.
I just love Viper. I love being able to punish people sooo hard for making mistakes, being able to open people up with the many offensive options she has, her unique zoning game with seismos. Not to mention she’s a cool character, and so flashy and stylish. Sure she comes with her frustrations, but most of the time she’s so much fun to play.
I main Gief cause that was my favorite character in SF2 when I was a kid. He wasn’t who I was best with, he was actually who I was worst with probably. But all my friends were not very good at street fighter and I felt gief was the most challenging character to learn as a kid. All the characters specials were so similar, but Zangief stood out. Pulling off a SPD felt like the most rewarding move, even though that snes pad would give my thumb a blister from all the mashing and 360’s. When I picked up SF4 I didn’t even give any other characters a chance. Just went straight to him and decided I was going to learn the game with him and not pick anyone else till I felt I was good at the game. Still haven’t learned another character to be honest. lol
It’s always about the character I have the most fun playing as. I usually go for either high-speed rush-down characters with great mix-ups, or grapplers. If possible, a combination of the two. I also prefer the character to have some sort of personality other than “I exist to fight” or “I exist to kill”.
I don’t think I’ve ever played a game where the top tier character(s) were ones that just naturally appealed to me. I started with Sakura, and put in tons and tons of work with her. Nothing good ever came of it. I switched to Cammy, and even with lack of experience and knowledge of her combos, I was having better luck with her than with Sakura just applying the shit I learned is ST.
I’m honestly thinking that next game, I’m not even going to play it until it’s been around for a year. After a year, top tiers will begin to be obvious, and then I can just pretend every other character does not exist except the top five, and just make a choice from there. Far too often, I’ve put in too much work with low tiers and it only screws me over, because when I try to switch to another character, I end up playing that character with the strategies I developed using the low tier character, and it doesn’t work.
SFIV Arcade: I first mained Dictator cause I saw a Japanese player wreck an arcade with him. Before I tried Abel who I felt was good but not my style.
SFIV Console: Stuck with the Dic until I was a lil bored and started repping Claw.
SSFIV: Tried to play Dudley because I liked him from 3S.
SSFIV AE: I went through Dudley, Guy, Seth, Evil Ryu, Hakan
SSFIV AE 2012: Hakan because that shit is unfair yo. Evil Ryu because I think he might be one of the best now.
I main chun b/c she’s so sexy just look at her figure. She’s super hot now since I have the pc verison and someone her on srk made a costume of her all tatted up with red dess super hottt thank you.
My alt is Oni he’s such a badass and I love playing him too. Lately I be abandoning chun just to play Oni
I only started playing SF since AE, but Yang is sexy.
AE: Viper/Yang, Cammy, Gouken, Dan.
3SO: Yang, Remy, Hugo.
I hate steroid characters and top tiers, Yang’s nerfs suck (Nerfs were needed, but to the extreme I’m not sure yet…) but if he’s still decent when the changes come out I’ll be more than happy ^^
