How Could Fighting Games Change for the Better?

The average person who enjoyed SF2 will never go to these sites for SF4 discussion. A good tutorial would have gone a long way in helping them understand the game.

I see where hes coming from through, I haven’t really done much outside the SFxTK boards so it’s understandable but im making the effort in getting known in my community though…Im still going to say what I think though…like this
shit.

The fuck is this nonsense? VF is a shitty game? Because their isn’t a big scene in the states =/= a shitty game. VF is a legit honest fighter.

Edit: I’m done with this thread though, going to focus on my games and shit

It looks like the word “of” in that quote is supposed to be the word “over” the second part of the sentence doesn’t make sense with the word of, also using “over” changes the meaning of the entire quote and makes it make sense.

…because other people act like a FG has to have good single player before multiplayer is even considered.

Those people should just play action games and RPGs, because they obviously don’t like fighting games.

honestly i couldn’t make much sense of what they were trying to say and right now it’s too late to take back what i just said so…fuck it.

oh boy, how many people here dont know how abrasive and trollish was pre 2009 srk
like how the prems used to troll over non prems
i miss those days

Different rhymes for different times. Different strokes for Different folks, ect ect

I guess reading is not your strong point

Fixed.

Judging a game based on Production Values is one of the dumbest ways to judge the merits of a fighter. Every competitive player knows that the gameplay/mechanics are far more important than production values.

Just look at the poll for the How do you judge value? thread:

The fact you can’t grasp the simple concept of gameplay/mechanics > production values when it comes to judging the merits of fighters is mind boggling to me. The proof is right there.

Poll results already answered your question.

Man, I can’t tell if you’re serious or trolling but goddamn, this has to be one of the worst posts I have EVER read on SRK - ever.

Just because a game gets the majority of play, that doesn’t make the game good. If the majority of players started playing Ballz competitively*, *does that make it a good game? Fuck no. A bad game is a bad game, no matter how many people are playing it. Come on, man, it’s common sense.

I guess grammar isn’t yours either. o_O

dont quote people if you cant understand them, makes you look like a idiot. There isnt much of a popularity for VF or most good games since people want shit like umvc3 and SFAE. Well guess MK9 and KOF 13 are still around though

Shooters have training mode. At least the ones I played before where you could add bots to the game, that counts as training mode. MGO had a training room.

This is exactly what i’m talking about.
“Well guess MK9 and KOF 13 are still around though” what are you implying? Are MK9 and KOF 13 good games and that’s why they are around? or are you implying the opposite? your not being very clear when your conveying your message, that’s why I did not understand you. If you are clear about it then I would have never said otherwise.

did I say they were bad games? Dude you’re a fucking idiot

Where did you say that they were good? o_O
Your not being clear on what your saying so just stop…I can’t take this idiocy anymore, i’m better off blocking this sort of nonsense so do the world a favor and do not reply to this. ~good day sir

obvious troll is obvious

The 3D graphics in Ballz makes it look like a crappy PS1 game. pretty impressive for an SNES game.

No you seriously don’t get it. I can judge gameplay/mechanics I LIKE, but that’s an entirely different subject.

Beyond that, people lie. Aesthetics and production value is way more important than they like to say. For instance, in that poll you quoted, of course everyone voted that way. Nobody thinks of themselves as being the shallow person who cares about how a game looks, especially not in this culture. But the truth is everyone does.

The real answer is this: Gameplay is absolutely important. Nobody is saying it shouldn't come first. That being said, aesthetics and production values (they'e not exactly the same) are also important, and are more important than people are willing to admit.

People want 3 things, really

A game with mechanics they enjoy

A game that they find pleasant/interesting/striking (in looks and sound)

A game that has plenty of other people playing, so they can find competition.
You seem to think I"m putting the second point over the first one, but that's absolutely wrong. Rather, I'm saying that the second one exists, and is a real factor in peoples enjoyment of a game. They just think it makes them seem less hardcore, so they won't admit it.

That's kind of the problem. People's self-image and cultural pressure are more important than looking at things with clarity. Until people actually start checking themselves the community is going to continue to be its own greatest enemy.

I didn’t say “you just suck.” People are good at different things. The fact that you find some link or hit-confirm or whatever difficult doesn’t mean it’s difficult for everyone. Personal example here, when UMVC3 first came out I heard a lot of talk about how Doom combos “took some execution.” I learned Clockwork’s loops from watching him play a few matches on a stream and then playing some casuals that night.

Also, execution and strategy are not mutually exclusive. A high execution component (like HD combos, I guess) doesn’t make a game any less about mind games (or whatever you want to call it).

Except that around 80% of the market here plays in Internet Cafés thanks to low home PC/console penetration so they are considered a good indicator of what’s being played.
