I tend to be really defensive and block A LOT when I play, which I know isn’t really a bad thing. However, I feel like I’m blocking at inappropriate times when I could be attacking the opponent. That’s why I always find myself in the corner, even when I’m at full health and my opponent’s nearly at zero. Whenever I try to be offensive and stop blocking, i get punched in the face. How can I be more offensive without being punished for it? (I play Ryu in usfiv btw)
Just yell “Suck a *** you *** *** ***bag ***ing ***er” everytime someone blocks a telegraphed shoryuken bruh. Works for DSP.
Though more seriously, being offensive with Ryu of all characters is kinda hard. Unlike Yun, Ibuki, or Cammy, he does not have a braindead set up to blow people up on offense. With Ryu, offensive play is more working your way in and alternating between throws, cr.MK/cr.HK, and f.MP when your opponent is trying to play defensive. However, do NOT force the offense. Ryu is not a good shoto for offensive play (Akuma, Ken, and Sakura do it much better), so only go on the offense to close out the match on low-risk characters. (Yang is a good example. He doesn’t do much damage on random hit. Zangief is a HORRIBLE character to go in on. His damage and close-range options can steal matches.)
