How can any new player get good?

that makes no sense

roll towards it :rock::rock:

I read your post, a little advice that has been well echoed: Don’t keep making the same mistakes over and over. Experienced players know that scrubby Akuma’s will start the match with air fireball, and spam hurricane kick. It’s the simplest possible advice, if something doesn’t work, don’t keep doing it. Mix it up. Pick only 1 or 2 characters at a time to get good at. To master the entire cast (which is almost impossible unless you have a lot of time on your hands) isn’t going to work, you just need to focus on a character that plays to your strengths. Biggest thing I can tell ya’ from experience; be polite, don’t taunt and think you’re a bad ass, ask questions (like what beats what, was I that telegraphed, etc) and just keep adapting.

I can tell ya’ I’ve been playing 3S since 07, started taking it serious around 09, and I would consider myself decent to good with my Alex and Dudley. Point being it takes a long time and dedication to get to tourney level.

Wow, the OP is so full of frustration. Frustration that I can relate to. Not in fighting games. I got into FG’s when I was a kid and so I’ve got some experience. Even when I get dominated on by better players, I never feel like I don’t know why. I just shake my head at my mistakes or lack of knowledge on a certain aspect of the game and try to fix those things.

However, I bought Counterstrike on Steam a while ago and tried my hand at this FPS. I’ve never played FPS’ers so I get totally annihilated. I sit there really confused thinking “what the hell is he doing that I’m not doing?”. Bam dead, didn’t even see who shot me 90% of the time. The times I see someone before they see me I feel like I’m the screaming guy in that scene in Pulp Fiction where he misses all his shots.

It’s really the same thing though. It feels like an insurmountable obstacle at first, but it’s just your emotions playing a trick on you. All those kids in China that speak Chinese, they’re not geniuses. They speak Chinese in China. They play 3S at Game Versus. You go there enough and you’ll get better. Good enough to beat people that destroy you now. Getting really good (pro) is different though. That doesn’t happen by itself. That takes practice and some mental stretching. Some people get very scientific about it, but it doesn’t matter HOW you do it. Whatever you do to understand (aka “GET”) the game is up to you as long as you make the effort instead of just logging on to GGPO everyday and putting the time in. That will get you somewhere, but not to where I think you want to go.

That’s all a bit vague, I know. Something a little less vague that works for me: chop the game up into little chunks that are easy to understand. Understand the AA situation, or more specifically the AA situation of Dudley vs Yun for example. Understand the mixup situation after you block or get hit by a shallow divekick. Analyze those chunks so you know what works when and why. Apply that knowledge. Whenever you encounter a new chunk of game you’re unfamiliar with you repeat the process. Just try not to forget what you learn. I have a bad tendency to start from a clean slate everytime I play.

Your advices are all good but a little bit general
So, I bump my requests and hope you guys explain me how training mode or whatelse I can use to get better at what, besides execution of course
And sorry if my english is bad but I’m italian and don’t speak english so often, I’ll try to get better at it too

someone explain mov arcade mode training please

this…

to offer something other than “this…” i understand he uses dudley and makoto to work on anti airs (dud), dashing under jump ins (dud/mak), and reacting to dashes (mak). Take this with a grain of salt, i may be mistaken. He also doesn’t attack the cpu unless its off a red parry.

i wish i would have copied beans post before he went ghost, he had some good info. sf3lp, as well as everyone else who was at sunroute, likes to ignore me, no ggpo love ( ~_~)

Thanks. About antiairs, he’s speaking of mixing antiairs, or simply applying his antiair option selects?

yea he practiced ant airing jumps in by using dudley (since his jump is small) and same with dashing under but he also used makoto (i imagine to practice going under the tsurugi as well)…i also assume he used the cpu training in arcade mode to practice option selects and reactionary stuff but this is not 100% info but its understandable

 ??? did you even contact me?

check pm’s x2 lol

Denjin’s head is too big for online love, OR maybe they just don’t come on here anymore? Have you tried posting in the denjin thread where they might actually see it?

and I know for a fact that Nica replies to his shit, you just gotta be a little more patient maybe.

Also I never defend anybody here, so stfu.

i dont have anything from you in my inbox at all nor did i get anything from you… as Dander said i always reply to everyone so if its really that important then just pm me again

LMAO here haha! I know how you feel!
I usually play fighting games or hackers like Devil may cry. Recently I play Lost Planet online on my PS3 and I had the same thing.
Seeing guys jumping all over the place, while shooting magazines of bullets at them and all of a sudden: [You got killed by Lost_PlanetDude86]. I can only imagine facing Counterstrike veterans.

Nowadays I really have a hard time getting used to parrying in 3S. Also trying to main Yun as we got good friends on CvsSNK one day. I can understand the fanaticism some SFIII players have because it’s a really challenging game. My thumbs are already aching.

wtfisoki

I started playing 3rd strike a few months ago on ggpo, just don’t take your losses so harshly. I main Remy, so I am conditioned to constant losing; hell i didn’t seriously win my first match until ~6 weeks ago. Just learn and keep on going.

This man speaks so much truth. I honestly don’t lose much anymore on GGPO, but for the first few months I would get my ass handed way more than I was handing them their asses.

Just keep playing regardless if you are winning or losing as long as you are having fun and/or learning something new.

I really want to learn yang in 3s. Ive been training on the anniversary, then taking it to ggpo. Im making all the time to learn this game. Im a beginner at 3s.
But I have trouble with his Universal overhead into cr.lk link other than that I got all other links and combos down. And I need to drastically improve my parry game. Its hard but im staying dedicated this time around. No more SSfiv for a while.
