[lay posting]
Ranbat final tomorrow, everyone show up!!!
last ranbat tomorrow?? wtf…im in cali!!
uhh…sorry i couldnt make it.
My dad picked the perfect day to be a total douche…bah
Season 1 of our 3S ranking battle has finally come to a close. There were many ups and downs throughout the season and here’s a recap from your friendly neighborhood sugarland
Cons:
-
The Sunday 1-3pm starting time didn’t work out as well as anticipated. People usually have other obligations at home or with family during the final resting day of the week. Right now I am looking at 8:00pm Thursday as the new ranking battle time.
-
A poultry turnout for the last three ranking battles (average of 8.33 per ranbat). This can be attributed to the Sunday schedule but also a repetative feeling torwards the end of the season. David Hem and Alex Ennis already had a lock on 1st and 2nd by the time the 6th ranbat rolled around. The only thing that was determined on the 8th and final ranbat was for 3rd place finish. This futher cements my belief in a short season. A new start and everyone begins with a clean slate.
-
More players should be showing up. If Vineet and BigEd can take the time to show up and try to improve their game then so can you.
Pros:
-
Huge improvements in everyone’s game. Enough said, ranbats did their jobs. Those who invested time and resources got the return they were looking for: A better and more consistant player overall.
-
Ranking battle 1.3, this was the motherload of season 1. 28 entries says it all!!! The event took a lot of time and phone calls to set up but in the end it was one of the best 3S event to bestow upon planet-zero with the recent regional a close second.
Random stats:
Total Entries - 99
Players who attented every ranbat - Evil Dictator, Alex Ennis, Lang (props to all of you guys) let me know if I missed anyone
Average ranking battle attendance - 12.375
Most improved player - Vineet
Biggest upset of the season - Evil Dictator winning ranbat 1.5 and Alex Ennis beating Aznhitler’s Hugo and Necro in one set…let me crazy
Final Rankings for 3s Planet-Zero ranbat season 1:
- Aznhitler - 49, staggering…and he wasn’t even playing serious half the time
- Alex Ennis - 31, had a great run in placing top 4 for 5 ranbats straight
- Sugarland - 18, let me not so crazy
- Rushdown Ninja - 17, solid as hell, would have been third if he wasn’t with family in Cali
- Fubarduck - 15, only participated in two ranbats
- Evil Dictator - 13, pulled the upset of the season…teaching boys how to block/not block
- Chris Dat - 12
- Lang - 11
- Alex Yoon - 10
t11) Hsien Chang - 7
t11) Duane - 7
t13) Khang Le - 5
t13) Jive Turkey Jones - 5
Hope to see everyone at ranbat season 2. 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month @ 8:00pm starting August
Own!
 Wish I could have attended more than 1 Ranbat, but I’m 6 hours away.
Wouldn’t making them Thursday eliminate out of towners all together? I always assumed that holding them on Saturday would bring higher turnouts.
Jive Out!
i feel bad in jive’s case, but we did give it a try and having ranbats on sunday definitely brings more downsides than benefits. we can’t have it on saturday because it would hurt PZ’s business or something.
and i dunno what you’re talking about-- me vs. hitler wasn’t an upset. it’s just that i was at 90-ish% and david got like 2 hours of sleep. :wgrin:
now that there’s a clean slate, i should start trying again! :wasted:
Bummer… I wish I could have made it out to more ranbats.
I think the Sunday setup works great its just that earlier in the ranbat the start time was at 1:00 which was very difficult for many people to make. Especially since people go to church, sleep in, or have lunch with the family on Sunday. I think 3oclock (or perhaps even 4 oclock?) ranbts will work fine for the new season. That will give people more time to get there and they won’t feel rushed in having to make the 1 or 2 oclock signup. For those of us (like me) who live an hour or more away it definately makes it easier.
Also the new pricing structure of 5 dollars to enter should encourage others to sign up as well. Usually I throw down about 10 bucks for casuals so when you factor that, plus the old 10 dollar entry fee, plus about 10-15 bucks in gas and oil (truck leaks… ugh) and lunch money for the trip it usually came out to about a 30-40 dollar afternoon (which comes out to about 80 or so a month… hmmm…) The price of gas just sucks really:(… oh and lets not forget those toll charges!!! lol.
Nevertheless, I’ll try and make it out to the Thursday ranbats and of course I’ll bring my camcorder to so that we can maybe get some recognition for our skillz:) Course… no MORE RANDOM SUPERS WHEN THE CAMERA IS ROLLOING!!! lol;) Still got that footage lying around somewhere where Alex did Makoto’s SA1 in the middle of nowhere during the finals… would have been fine if it was at least close enough to maybe HIT his opponent… LOL. Classic moment…
See you guys next season!
damnit nobody kept lay from beating me by 1 point?! ah well, congrats to all…ill be back in time for the start of next season.

ranbat season 1 : mission accomplished.
tried, he was on firre…there was a 4 way tie at the end , nothing anybody can do about that.
double post cause i’m the dictator:
meh, random supers are and will continue to be a part of 3rd strike, actually…they have been a part of all the games i have played seriously in the past 3 years. Now whether you choose to put them online or do a “best bouts” type thing where only the matches you like are online is completely up to you :wonder:. I feel that video taping everything is awesome just as long as the players being recorded have access to their matches after it’s over and done with.
Can someone tell me how many ranbats in 1 series? What sort of prizes do you give out at the end of the series (money???). Do you charge entry fee into each ranbat tourney? Does the 1st, 2nd, 3rd participants of each ranbat get pot money? Just some question I want to clear cause I wanna do a ranbat here. Any help will be apreicated.
all of those questions are answered in the first post of this thread.
edit@malaguena- i was 80% sure that half-screen SA1 was going to connect! and carpool that shit down to kill travel costs? there are a few people from the north side of town that play. (if you are from the north, my memory sucks)
I agree actually but I was referring to and really just picking on Alex and his famous half screen Makoto SA1… I mean… at least make them block it… lol jk;). The crowd reaction to that moment was hilarious though… I think at that moment Sugarland turned to me and said “for real man… please don’t put this one up” Ahh Good times:)
Actually im on the south side of town. Don’t know if anyone else is in the Clear Lake, League City area…
for real man…please don’t put this one up
lol
Thank You.
Thursdays mean I absolutely, positively, not make a single ranbat. Oh well, it’s not like I showed up to the Sunday ones. :bgrin:
I’ll just continue to sit here and spout 3S theory fighter and Ken hate.
F’REALZ?!?! Awesome, keep up the good work.
