House M.D. Thread

Well yeah…thats half the fun of it.

So it does matter, at least to some (many!) viewers. And the way it’s always set up, is that being correct on some point or a genius somehow gives him the right to be rude. This is false and immoral.

btw I read Obama’s book Dreams from my Father, and he gives a first hand account of surviving Indonesia’s health care system, maybe not so different from Malaysia’s, as they share a border. It’s probably improved since the time he lived there, but the conditions described are far from perfect, to say the least. On House, he’d often rather finish his game or watch a TV show than do his job and not violate the Hippocratic Oath… just like Obama’s doctors in Indonesia.

I never said it gave him a right to be rude. I said it was fun to watch. Comparing a fictional character to real life events does not correlate as one is pure fiction and not real. Most of the time House has no reason to be a jack ass aside from it stroking his own ego and of course it;s wrong for him to be so rude but in the end it’s fun to watch and i watch TV to enjoy myself. As a real life correlation no one gives a shit if House is an asshole because House isn’t real.

No offense but your argument is fucking stupid.

Go back and read what you wrote: “Well yeah… thats half the fun of it”. So how are you going to have half of your fun without enjoying (patronizing) his rudeness? Take away the rudeness, take away half of your fun. The rudeness feeds directly into your immoral view of what you consider to be fun.

The show’s writing’s ok, when he gets in trouble for it, which is no where near as often as it should be.

I saw a bunch of episodes of The Unit recently, that show has been getting better. Any of those guys would so not take any shit from House.

why do you even watch house? your views on the show are ridiculously skewed (eg “cameron is a slut”…like really?) and you appear to clearly have disdain for his character and for most of the characters on the show.

What does morality have anything to do with what you think is entertaining? Most people here I assume enjoy playing Street Fighter. I don’t think beating someone to a bloody pulp is all that moral, but I won’t hate on you for enjoying it because it’s a video game. How is it immoral that people enjoy House’s antics? It’s a fictional show. It’s not real man. If this were a real doctor, I believe a lot of us would have issues with House, but he isn’t, and that’s why we can indulge that side of us that enjoy watching characters like House, Batman, Jack Bauer, or Dexter. If it’s immoral for us to enjoy that, then I guess quit pointing out the obvious and get the fuck out.

I can just as easly make an argument about how immoral you are for using Dhalsim’s name I mean he fucking breathes fire. Fire destroys and burns man. It’s immoral that your username is Dhalsim. How dare you use Dhalsim. You should just stand there and get beat cause it’s immoral to fight back man. Every time you Yogo flame, you’re feeding into this notion that it’s ok for individuals to go around torching people. It’s just wrong. So wrong.

See how ridiculous that is? See how ridiculous you are?

Actually I did get the fuck out, but someone sorta invited me back in… also I wanted to mention the Malaysia thing for those of us in the thread that live there and might consider House, however rude, as some savior of national healthcare, I mean I could understand that at least.

Playing Street Fighter is mostly done to engage another human (and not a patterned AI) in a mental, strategic competitive game for personal glory. The immorality happens more in a game like DOA, where you have big breasted, top-heavy, and low body weight females somehow able to kick some ass. It’s immoral for you to play the game, and comment something such as, I beat you up like that guy beat up Rhianna, because that is something bad that actually did happen. Joking about it trivializes the immoral act itself. Just like, there actually are doctors that have gotten away with and try to get away with abusing drugs (though, the show deals with this a lot better than his rudeness, I’ll give it that much).

And do not ever underestimate the power of Jack Bauer. He of all people, fictional or non, is most single-handedly responsible for getting the voting American public comfortable enough to elect the first black US President.

Dhalsim is the most moral of all Street Fighter characters, and I am one of the best Dhalsim players in the entire world. And Dhalsim fights for the people of the world, saving villages. The last time I checked, saving a village was not immoral. So, I think I’m ok. If there were some issue with, say, Indians actually torching people and his yoga fire move was based on some immoral truth (say, if it was a kkk guy in a white hood burning crosses on opponents), then it would be questionable. But that’s not the case.

There have been a lot of crap shows since 9/11, tons of cop/crime mysteries but have you noticed the trend? The suspect is usually determined fairly early in today’s shows, and it just becomes a process of drumming up enough evidence somehow, any way because whenever they show that character, regardless to the current level of evidence against him, the errie music starts to play and the actor playing him always plays a bad guy, etc so it must be him. House isn’t as lazy as most of them but definitely has cases of not vetting ideas thoroughly enough sometimes (esp. as a central theme of the show). It’s bad television, and it needs to be said.

Come on, you don’t really think I’m so ridiculous here? Not so much more than House? Come up with better arguments because I’m basically the House of the House thread, so you can’t really complain without contradicting yourself, you should be having fun and be entertained and not having all these hang-ups, so get off my case already, jeesh some people huh can’t even let you enjoy a forum.

lol so much wrong in that post, not enough time.

Don’t worry. I have a premium account to deal with guys like this. He’ll be getting an infraction for trolling soon.

The ignorelist does wonders for trolls. See, i just did it, no more troll, yay.

moving on…

The latest episode was good, but kinda falling again. It wasn’t terribly entertaining but still thoughtful. They took notes from The Diving Bell and the Butterfly film on this one. If i hadn’t seen that film already, i would’ve been more invested in the technique. But anywho, I thought it was a decent episode. I like the cliffhanger at the end, too.

I find shooting people in FPS games fun but i wouldn’t condone it in real life. Your a fucking tard.

My mistake was actually thinking you were being serious before. I see now that you’re just here to entertain us all. Thanks.

Well thanks, but I am being serious, just, in a way that (I thought) you’d all appreciate.

I’m House in this thread, and you want to play the role of that bald black guy that was the head of the hospital’s board of directors, that tried to get House fired by the sheer power of his title, and spending his money only. (same actor also played the principal on Boston Public.)

First of all, your word choice of “tard” is apprehensive and very insulting to those with family members with mental disabilities, from Down syndrome to Aspergers. These are real people in society with special needs-- provided by those of us without those conditions, and your casual use of the word shows your basic lack of decency. This is true regardless of commonly accepted vernacular in society.

Just as you like FPS games, many if not most people would look down on that as one who does condone shooting people in real life. Just because that’s the popular view, does that make it acceptable? If not, then you can see the same principle at work, and you should make a decision to stop using that word.

Also it’s You’rE not “Your”, btw.

Now, as for House, it seems a few of you really seem to think I don’t get it, that House is fiction and should be enjoyed. But what I’m talking about is something that breaks down the sense of disbelief in this particular fiction. My complaint is much more akin to something like, why do you play as Akuma in ST, or, why do you think it’s fair that you get the rocket launcher and best weapons in an FPS game we’d play, but I’d only get the pistols? This is the stuff of forums, why we debate it, and if we’re talking video games and what makes a good game, no two people will agree on that question- certainly not in forums.

Unless, of course, you just want posts like, “gee, House was great last night” “um yeah”. “cool hey I’ll give you rep points, I paid money for the privilege.” “thanks!”

And The Unit is a good show, with a lot of morals. (Except the pro-Israel stuff that crops up from time to time.) Those people live by a code. Some higher principles. Sort of like Tupac wanted, when he gave some rules to live by, such as “no selling drugs in schools”. That means, it’s fine to sell drugs outside of schools, just not inside them. House would be fine with that code, because it means he would find a way to obtain drugs to support his habit of abuse. It’d still be wrong, but at least there’d be a code, some set of core values to live by.

What the fuck are you talking about?

>I have mentally challenged memebrs in my family. They don’t give a shit so fuck off. <

That cannot be true; they DO give a shit, otherwise they need to increase the level of care provided for your mentally challenged family members from a minimum level (below which, society usually has to step in long beforehand). It certainly does not give you the right to use that word. That word should not be used by ANYone in ANY context.

Ironically, you’re actually making a case for “Those who watch House do have a right to be rude because House is smart and entertaining”. Just because someone in your family is mentally challenged, that does NOT give you the right to use that word! You of all people should realize the folly. But since you don’t I’m pointing it out to you. You’re welcome.

>Much like you those people are stupid. <

By the same principle, you logically have to include yourself in the group of “stupid people” as well. Think about it.

>What the hell does me enjoying Houses fucked up behavior in a fictional setting have to do with me choosing Akuma or Me getting a Rocket Launcher and you a Pistol? What that life’s unfair? If not then I’ve missed your point. I think people wanted to discuss the show on an episodic basis and not a moralistic bull shit one.<

That’s a false assumption- the first post in this thread titled “House M.D. Thread” doesn’t restrict discussion to “episodic basis” whatever that means- it’s far more general. (And anyway it’d be unnecessary to have more than one House MD thread in GD.)

Akuma in ST is basically always banned, as he is generally considered a character with unfair advantages. If not, the entire game itself would be much less than it is; it would disturb players’ fun and enjoyment of an otherwise great competitive game. If you always pick him, or only play games where you get the rocket launcher and others don’t, you’re not playing competitively. In House, you have a dialogue of insults, and a false dichotomy emerges where “you get to act rude if you’re smart”, which is wrong. Not everyone agrees with it being wrong, or bad TV, just as not everyone agrees with the banning of certain characters/tactics/weapons etc on game forums. If someone offers dissent on a forum, you can offer specific counter points, ignore it, etc but just insulting the person and expecting everyone to agree doesn’t exactly help the discussion, does it.

You sure make a lot of mistakes.

This weeks episode was great! Liked that they aped that movie. That one with Butterfly in the title.

Hoooooly shit!

Seriously what the fuck if this pans out.

I wonder if this is another awesome Fox decision
