Honestly, I can understand your point of srk being an “all age fighting game forum”, that part isn’t where I have the problem. My problem is that your claiming this is a fighting forum but yet you “wish” to turn this forum IMM into a an all “art related forum”. That within itself is contradictory. Who’s to say that the pictures posted aren’t art. Yeah, I’m playing devil’s advocate here in a sense but the fact remains…art is matter of interpretation. To totally prohibit members from posting these images here is pretty unfair; maybe enforcing much more strict parameters could be a possible solution.
Now don’t get me wrong here alot of members have broken the rules here with IMM and well they made for some nice pictures, but nonetheless I concede that rules were broken. Now for that reason alone I could see you actually shutting down the threads. Violation of rules would be a catalyst for deprivation of privlege but to simply close thread because you’re “offended.”? That just comes off as you’re just overly sensitive about provocative images. I mean if people REALLY want to discuss art and images in a BBS,technically “shoryuken.com” wouldn’t be the place for it. “Your Competitive Edge” doesn’t sounds like an art forum to me. I can’t stop you from shutting them down thats obviously your choice. Shoryuken.com over the years has become watered down and caters much more to a mass that really doesn’t even understand the sites intent or the history behind it.
Nonetheless,this is just evidence that the site and its vibe is changing for the worse and that its becoming way too “family friendly” for a site that was originally centralized around people in the SF scene and had a age demographic of 18-35. Anyways, its your business if you close those threads it really will seem lame but I guess like 99% of IMM will just leave and go to porn sites anyway. I know for me, I won’t be coming back to IMM once they’re gone. Nice while it lasted.

People “really” discuss art in here. The problem is that your definition of art that you’re defending (albeit admirable) isn’t being discussed on an art level. I haven’t see discussion about the certain apeture being used, what lighting is being used (fill, flash, spot), if there was airbrushing involved, WHO the photographer is and whether or not they have a portfolio to look at. Instead I see links to other women and THEIR posing portfolios that most often serve another purpose as opposed to art.
As much as you can debate the fact that it should be black and white, you know that most of the decisions of modding are based on grey areas. Much like how friends can call each other faggot (i.e. Zulu and his close friends) whereas someone else can’t use the word because they know it’s deemed hateful…even if it isn’t, you can’t take the chance with someone you don’t know. Sure this type of logic is selective, but what isn’t when the reigns of power are in human hands?
And is that really a problem? They are only reflecting the rules of the board, who deem it to be smut. If anything, the rules are more black and white than the judgement of the mods who have to follow the rules…otherwise they wouldn’t be in the position they have right now. This is in ways negates what I said earlier about “Grey areas” because ultimately there’s not a speck of “grey” area to be seen (or that I have seen, if there is to the contrary point it out to me) that is significant to keep these threads alive.

It’s not the fact that you aren’t saying anything, it’s more the fact of why it’s there, and why it was posted in the first place. AKA to get your jollies or eye candy fix on a girl who you could have easily seen on millions of other sites already.
Take this for example, personally I fucking HATE the “showcase your latest” art thread, mainly that people almost hardly respond with a critique that the artist deserves, present company included. But the intent of the thread is pretty easy…showcase off your own artwork/projcets/etc. Even though hardly any artistic discussion takes place in there, it’s still apparent in the intent that thread is to showcase of your stuff.
Now take a girl thread: You post a hot girl, from a portfolio perhaps, or even from a website dedicated to her, but for what purpose really? Are we there to discuss the body posture how it flows into scenary or how the composition is great? Are we there to explore what colours are use, what balance is there? About the portfolios, are we comparing with more professional ones, discussing if we were a modeling agency why we would hire this girl here? To my knowledge, no. If you can show me a significant amount of what I described above (and or more) then perhaps you might have a chance
I’ll be honest with you, possibly the only difference between a dirty magazine and a life drawing book is that the latter costs $40 and the former costs a little under $10; but there’s a whack load of crap that’s beyond “just smut and just art” that toes the line as much as a Non-Nude Picture from an H-Game posted in the Anime girl thread.
