Horizon: Zero Dawn (Now Out!)

I found my first cauldron. I was very under prepared for it. The boss machine kept fucking me up. Made me wish I invested some points into the Brave skill tree.

What happened in nier? (never played it). It’s nice a take on [details=Spoiler] humanity lost, we ain’t the beez knees son! I find it almost happy that that wasn’t some sort of ass-pulling and that humanity didn’t come out on top.[/details]

Praise machines!

[details=Spoiler]It’s actually really hard to sum up simply because both games deal with that aspect and it takes thousands of years. Basically a magic disease infests our earth, ending much of life. Before it kills everyone, some people find a way to harness magic scientifically and sort of create spirit versions of themselves so they can’t die from a body breaking down. Once the disease is no more they also start making human bodies and the idea is to go back into those bodies, but those bodies end up gaining their own consciousness. The player plays one of those humans and you basically kill the human spirit in charge of enacting that plan, essentially ending the original humanity altogether. That’s Nier.

In Automata, at some point millennia later Earth is invaded by aliens. To fight them off the humans of that time create androids to fight a proxy war vs the alien created “Machine Lifeforms”. This goes on for a while but eventually, before the war is over, all humans are completely dead and gone unbeknownst to the androids they created, and the machine lifeforms revolt and kill the aliens. The game starts hundreds of years after this. The story is basically about finding out the truth of everything(among other things of course). There is no redeeming humanity at all, and the closest analog is the androids, but humans are completely non-existent as a species in any form.[/details]

Hmmm interesting. That teach those squishes!!!

Played and finished The Frozen Wilds this past Saturday.

Shoutouts to Tripcaster + Blast Wire stuffs.

[] The ‘Traveler’ skill tree was most welcome, in regard to the salvager, carver, and hoarder skills.
[
] The new ‘elemental’ weapons are pretty cool, as well as the upgrades to some weapons for improved effects.
[] The new machines (Scorcher, Frostclaw, Fireclaw) made for some interesting first-time encounters.
[
] Daemonic Machines were a nice change-up for whatever Machine encounters.
[] Control Towers made for some somewhat interesting scenarios; either deal with the tower first to nullify effects or after whatever Machine threat was neutralized.
[
] ‘Claws Beneath’ was a fun encounter. Horizon could use more ‘Notorious’ Machines as part of quests/errands, or something.

Finally got this outfit.

Kinda disappointing that you don’t have camera controls in Photo Mode in this specific spot.

Yeah the new outfits are great. I basically LOVED the DLC and am ready for more and/or a sequel like, right now.

Talking to CYAN was great for all the additional background info you get too.

I really love the new ice weapon, and I love how it combos with itself. The secondary fire takes a freakin long time to charge up but it’s sooooo strong

I love CYAN. She’s great. Hope to see more of her in the future.

Spoiler

I liked the stormslinger sound effects. ZEEEE ZPOHFF ZPOHFF ZPOHFFFF ZPOFFFFPZOFPOFPOF

Also do they plan to fix the visual glitch in the inventory for the banuk chieftain outfit? Since the outfit itself is completely different from what it shows in the inventory.

Anyone else think that there’s enough space for another expansion? I mean, stuff like not all the armors not having master variants, and it’s tellingly the Oseram ones that don’t. Also, the spot where I originally though they’d expand the map towards (the locked gate up north near the Stormbird spawn) is still locked.

I hope so. GG is on a good roll with HZD so keep going. Stop either after the second dlc or the third.

I think they’re done with expansions. The Complete Edition of HZD hits in December, and it includes The Frozen Wilds. If they’re calling something “The Complete Edition”, I’m assuming there’s no more DLC. But who knows. That I’m even hoping for more is a miracle. This game has been marvelous so far.

This DLC is pretty good but I am super disappointed at all the Frost Claws they throw at you, it’s fucking stupid. Why does almost every single quest end with you fighting multiples of these things? It’s not fun, it’s just a massive drain on your resources and time. Just reloading over and over because they can hit you from anywhere on the battle field, their ice attack that spawns under you has a shit tell and a huge hit box, their ice boulders come from 30 feet out without warning, and you probably have the second one running all over you while this is going on to.

I think doing this as often as they have really sucks, I got to the end of this quest, took out like 5 scrappers and then two Frsot Claws spawned in and all it made me do was want to turn the game off. Thats not a good feeling.

Everything other then this one issue has been great tho.

I thought it was annoying as well. But…I chalked that up to being under prepared. My gripe with them really (excluding numbers) is the ice spikes they do. I feel like I dodge it but get hit anyway. The boulders aren’t to bad I find. Too bad on ultra everything breaks the ropecaster in quick succession. :frowning:

In my next play-through I plan to body frostclaws free. Oh and for their sheer size and power AND durability…they’re fast too. Like maybe not sorcher leaping 5000000000km to hit you fast…but still fast.

The bear hug scared me the first time they grabbed me.Thought it was a finisher of some kind.

Made sense to me, since the FrostClaws were the main new big mech for the expansion. At the same time, their smaller size (compared to say, Thunderjaws or Stormbirds) means that they can throw multiple ones at you.

As I said in the other thread, Rope Caster. Or even inflicting shock. I don’t know how different they are above hard, but on hard at least they’re really not that bad. Dodge their moves by going into them, tie one of them down asap, drink an anti ice potion if necessary, and at least for me I use the Banuk Sniper Bow with triple nock and full charge to pop a shoulder or their belly in like one shot. Once you get all three weakpoints they just stay in frozen status so you can pull out the Rattler and rip em apart

Haha that Bear Hug scared the hell out of my first time it happend to but it doesnt even seem to do that much damage.

The Ice move that comes from under you is bullshit. I’ve tried sprinting, long rollong, short rolling, everything I can think of, I still get hit by at least one of them each time of them does that move since they seem to make 2 or 3 of them shoot up under you each time. By the time I recover from a long roll the next one is already hitting me.

It just gets old. Even if I wasn’t having trouble with this fight I’d still be annoyed because I’ve played for about 3 hours and I’ve fought 6 of them as parts of quests. It’s gone from “Wow what a cool new machine” to “Oh these guys again, great.” They are over playing them and they are going from being a cool new enemy to a dull over used one. Their welcome has worn out, now they are a nuisance.

Yea I’m playing on Very Hard (I haven’t tried a diff lower then that yet lol) and they snap my ties pretty fast. I don’t have Triple Nock sadly, It wasn’t so bad during the fight where you team up with the Banuk Chief, he did a pretty good job Agro-ing them and there where those caves you could use to break line of sight an stuff, that area felt really well developed for them, but this quest the Banuk dude I’m with is useless, he can’t grab Aggro for shit, my ties break fast, and I just end up getting mauled by both of them. I’ll sort it out tho. I mainly just think the DLC is leaning on them way too much, I get they are a new machine, but they are using them so much as quest enders and stuff that they are just over played now.

I’ve no trouble dealing with FrostClaws on Very Hard. Then again, I am almost at the level cap. Basically just bomb the shit out of them and then use ropecaster shots to interrupt shit even if it isn’t good enough to rope them down.

lol dude talkin mad shit.

Whats the new level cap? I’m only level 40.

You didnt’ even reach 50 before the end of DLC? I reached 50 before I even beat the final mission of the base game lol
