Hori T5: Modding Tutorial

It is called a terminal or barrier strip. I like AJ’s type better, I dont know if I’d use that type again in another mod. It was heavy and clunky…AJ used a euro style terminal strip. I already bought a couple of those!!!
Yea got mine at radioshack

Need some help here, I am modding my T5 Stick switching the PCB to a PSX PCB. Any suggestions on how i can get the cord through the plastic? get the end of the cord of the psx pcb how of the hori t5 shell? Thanks

I used some large scissors/branch trimmers and cut the snot of out of the plastic. Most of it isn’t needed anyway

First page updated, thank you AJtheMishima

Yeah, the euro strips are alot nicer/easier to use/ Plus you can cut them so you have just the right amount you need for the job.

Jason-I actually did my first padhack a week ago. So looking at the ps pcb you have acouple of options
-Do what barky said which will be a bit messy
-Desolder the cord from the pcb, run it through the hole then solder it back

counterhit- Thanks for putting my guide on the first page, but you need to add the quote i used from DominoLogic on the wiring part. Or people are gonna be real confused! lol

I’d like different button positions, anyway to fill to the holes (with bondo or something) and then drill new ones?

sg- not entirely sure about filling the holes and then drilling new button position. I know there was a guy selling top panels for t5/hraps that he was custom making. Might wanna go look around in the trading section for that.

Where do you buy the white connector thing to connect to the Sanwa JLF?

The white terminal can be bought at radioshack/frys/other electronic stores that sell soldering/wiring stuff
Unless you mean the JLF harness which can be bought at LL/Aki/other places

Yeah the harness… Damn, is there no way to make my own?

Or how would I go about soldering onto it?

Shin-
Are you not wanting to get a harness because you can find a place that has it in stock or because you dont want to spend anymore? Cause this place just got like 50 in stock yesterday. So you can buy one from here, plus i hear the shipping is really fast.

Just want to warn you now, if you do it without the harness it will be pretty hard if not impossible to ever use a harness if you ever get one. Becuase it will be hard to get all the solder off the prongs of the joystick.
In order to do this, first look at this…

Figure out which position you have it in. Once you do that just solder a wire to each of the 5 prongs that the harness would of connected to . Then just wire it up to the pcb according to signals.

Sorry if some of this doesnt make sense, kind drunk and stuff…

Ahh, I’ll try from that site.

It’s because I know LL and Aki are getting hammered with orders at the moment so shipping could take weeks. Didn’t know you had to order the harness from there too or else I would’ve ordered it along with my buttons.

Priority shipping from that site you gave me. Sounds good!

Thanks.

I was commissioned a Soul Calibur III HRAP mod and figured I’d post some pics here since it has the same PCB as the T5 so the job shown below could be done on the T5 stick just as well.

Where can I buy those connectors, that’s awesome. What are they called “JST” connectors???

yeah, those connectors are pretty cool. Nice for the big hori pcbs.

Where are the gamingnow.net products being shipped from? The site gives no contact information.

Its domestic, Cali

ok, so i understand how to do the buttons. can anyone go into more detail as to how the joystick is installed, in the most laymen terms? i’m new to this so i just need a little more clarification, step by step. the wires from the PCB are put in a terminal (do they just plug in? soldered?), then the wires from the terminal go to … a harness? and how? …

much thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out. i know there’s a tutorial, but i’ve read the joystick part several times and i’m not familiar with some words and their association to the stick (what they look like) such as prong, ground, microswitch, etc. so i’m having even more difficulty figuring out the directions.

The button connectors are made by JST:

I get them from rs-components but if you’re in the US you can get them from Digikey.

PCB header:

Connector housing:

Crimp contacts:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=455-1133-1-ND

You would need an open barrel crimp tool for the contacts. Actually I solder the wire section of the contact and then crimp the insulation section. I would show it with pics but my crappy camera doesn’t allow to take closeups of such a small object.

Darn, I just ordered from DigiKey too. Amazing mod.
