Hori RAP premium VLX

Thinking about getting one of these off ebay as there is an auction for one right now and they are pretty rare in the UK, I had a go on a guys at a convention and loved it, but has anyone got any experience owning one?

Yes, the stock USB cables are crap.

Aside from that they are built like tanks, and easy to swap out the buttons & joystick.

What makes the stock USB cables crap?

I agree with gahrling, most retail Arcade sticks use thin, poorly made USB cords.
Those cords on the Hori, Mad Catz and Qanba sticks are too easy to break.

Good USB cords should be thick, durable, and if you slice inside of them have heavy duty metal shielding that is braded/woven and hard to cut though.
I should feel like I can choke a man to death with a good USB cord… Don’t choke any one.

New Egg or Monoprice got some great cables at very reasonable prices.

Very poor construction quality and wiring.

Is that the diamond one? That was on a couple of weeks ago but the seller pulled it, perhaps because the got scared about how low the bidding was.

its very obvious if you ever see two cables side by side.
able to see the cross sections of each.

The USB cables in retail sticks use the thinnest, cheapest wiring they can get

its the difference in soldering 30 gauge wire and 28 or 26 gauge wire

On paper is does not sound like much of a difference, but the actual differences are HUGE

So, does this effect gameplay? I only have 4 sticks but they are all VLX’s…

No. It effects the longevity of the cable.

Nope. USB cable is a USB cable. How long they’ll hold up to the abuse of being wrapped around the stick the wrong, tangled, messed up, chewed on, dropped on, is a whole different.

Basically, just use it until the cable stops working right, then replace it. USB cables are pretty easy to replace, even with rudimentary electrical skills.

it does not game play on it own like what iNENDOi said.
But it does effect how easy it would be to break a cable.

Do not wrap your cable tightly around your stick or controller, thats how cables get stretch, the wire inside breaks and you get a dud cable
with shorter lengths you could get away warping the cable the what you would a rope or extension cord.

I recommend most is the methoid shown in this video

secure your cable bundle with Velcro cable ties.
Most hardware places has this, Target, Walmart, Hope Depo, Lowes, Ect ect will have these ties

I use these.

Those work too. I like there velcro just because they are cheap, plentiful and can be found ANYWHERE
