Looks nice
Anyone thinking about getting a custom plexy on the V4 stick yet?
I am thinking about modding my V4, but I don’t know if it uses the regular V3 Pro or V3 Pro Kai layout.
I compared it with my friend’s UMVC3 stick and its pretty much identical to the V4.

Cool so its the standard V3 layout
Odds are I would not like the Kuro buttons and I am planing to drop in a JLW inside, as well as a desire to make my V4 into a 6 button.
Because I don’t leave my sticks stock.

I am also planing to replace the cable compartment door with a sheet of ABS plastic which will be cemented in place and drilled for a USB passthough.
I never like how Hori does their USB cords.
pm sent darksakul
So I finally got the message that my stick being shipped out.
I will probably have it next week.
play asia, is a rip off! and ami ami never seems to have stock!
How is Play Asia a rip off?
A lot of people like to make the claim that Play-Asia is a rip off because their prices tend to be a little higher than other places might seem. But they’re always cheaper when it comes to shipping and they offer FedEx with most other import shops going to EMS which is slower and costs more at the same time.
It’s a bunk opinion generated by web surfers who don’t buy anything (back by personal experience shopping with Play-Asia, AmiAmi, and using Imajin webshop and Sofmap via a reshipper).
Play-Asia is fine. The only reason I don’t like to order from them is cause they tend to not have the super risque pre-order bonus stuff you can get from Sofmap or Imajin.
I buy alot of stuff from Play-Asia. I have no idea what these people are talking about.
So I did some fact checking.
Ami Ami has the Hori V4 Pro at ¥12,600 or approx $124.10 US,
Normal Listed price is ¥149,04 or approx $ 146.80
Play Asia has the Hori V4 Pro $ 189.99 US
Ami Ami is often out of stock Play Asia isn’t.
Aslo Ami Ami can not accept any currency other than Japanese Yen which can cause some payment issues.
Play Asia is perfectly fine accepting payment in the form of US dollars.
I think the extra $43.19 for the convenience that there will be a guaranteed stock is more than fair.
Also forum members who joined prior to 2009 will tell you about the outrageous mark up the Sega VSHG and Hori Hrap 3 had and the cost of getting them in the US.
For reference, Amazon Prime and Hori US web store has the HORI PS3 Real Arcade Pro V3 SA KAI at $139.99
So Ami Ami is selling the Hori V4 cheaper than Hori itself selling the V3
AmiAmi will take PayPal which worked in Yen no problem, though does incur a small Foreign Transaction Fee if you’re drawing from a credit card rather than direct bank transfer.
AmiAmi will be out of stock pretty consistently at that price though, and also as I mentioned, EMS shipping for that stick to the US/Canada would probably be in the 8000 to 9000 yen range, so the 43.19$ “convenience” fee is reduced further when you factor in the difference in shipping.
EMS is really expensive. In fact, when I bought the 25th Anniversary Arc System Works stick, the EMS shipping fee for that was 13,250円. I really prefer the FedEx shipping available from Play-Asia when possible, costs less for larger orders and is always faster.
Pay pal will auto convert currency, and its the most reliable methods of payment on the internet.
And it is not hard to set up a bank transfer with Pay Pal but not everyone has access to pay pal.
EMS shipping would take several weeks.
EMS isn’t a surface mail courier, it’s an Express Air delivery method. Delivery from Japan to West Coast US usually takes ~2 to 3 days for stuff I’ve ordered.
I just looked it up and saw on HORI’s site that they’re saying the RAP v4 weighs 2.2kg.
https://www.post.japanpost.jp/cgi-charge/index.php?lang=_en
Ran that through the EMS shipping page and came up with 4700円 and 3 days to delivery.
When I went to check what Play-Asia was running for their FedEx shipping though I’ve noticed they’re stating the shipping weight is 4kg, so I went back to the EMS shipping page:
Came up to 6800円. By comparison FedEx Economy is showing 56.90$ for 3-5 day delivery, or 81.90$ for 1-3 days delivery.
EMS is basically equivalent to FedEx Economy in terms of shipping speed and FedEx Economy is cheaper. I also suspect that the real EMS shipping charge from a Japanese vendor would be higher than what the EMS page is citing as well.
On a side note I just found that Sofmap has them in-stock right now and is selling them for 11,800円 12,744円 (including tax). Unfortunately, Sofmap does not ship International so you’d have to use a reshipper (like Tenso) but damn.
Became I was not home for Fed Ex to make the deliver I have to wait til Monday for my stick.
Fricking Fed Ex stopping by at noon.
Yeah I miss packages all the time because I work. Seriously, people work during the day hours, what the fuck gives.
Yay, my Hrap V4 is in.
My thoughts.
First thing I notice is the cable compartment door falls off right away, I did not even try to open it.
Saying the door is dog shit is a insult to dog shit everywhere.
I swear to Jesus, Joesph, Mary, and Cthulhu the Mad Catz cable compartment doors are forged by the gods of Asgard in the heat of a dying star compared to the Hori door.
After breaking the “Do Not Remove” sticker, I took a peak inside, the wiring is just marginally better than Hori’s budget offerings.
The QD’s all have shrink wrap on them and USB cable wrapped in the biggest ferrite core I ever seen in a stick. That shit got yanked out quick.
The Kuro buttons? Feel too much like shit Sanwa buttons to me.
If you are wondering the cable compartment door is 6 1/4" by 2 5/16"
And I went to here to order the “replacement” panel
http://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/cut_to_size_plastic/abs_sheets/524
can you post a picture of the bottom panel to show if whether or not it has the non slip felt on the bottom of the stick?
Just pure cold metal panel… Nice and cold.
well that’s whack.
