How stiff are the MadCatz/Hori buttons? Are they like a button on a fresh keyboard?
The Hori stock button isn’t “stiff”, there is no resistance, it just needs more pressure than a Sanwa for the button to activate. I use to rest my fingers on them while playing, can’t do that now with the Sanwas lol.
Even the stiff Hori buttons are twice as soft as a keyboard button.
Actual sanwa buttons are very sensitive. You could probably lay 2 quarters on one and it would activate.
Weighing in at around 8-9 pounds I wouldn’t exactly call that light. As for the exterior scuffing up I’m not sure about that one. I’m a sit down player so the stick is always rubbing up against my legs and I’ve never had any scuffing issues. I also own a HRAP and not a HRAP 3 so maybe they went with a lower quality with the plastic casing. If you really don’t like it I’m sure there are plenty of members who would be willing to take that off your hands for a few bucks in the trading outlet.
Lmfao
I know you already know he was kidding now but…damn fucking lol.
hey cygnus, are you planning on keeping it?
cause I could really use an hrap3:rofl:
CygnusZero, it was clearly a joke, how could you have designed, bought, received and disliked your stick all within 24 hours. I wish madcatz had that kind of service
CygnusZero, I think you probably have some unique expectations for a high quality arcade stick. HRAP’s are generally very well loved here. I could go through your complaints one by one, but of course you’re entitled to your own opinions.
I’m willing to guess think you’d be happiest with an extra large custom stick made out of a very dense wood and using proooobably American parts.
For everyone giving him flack about the “film” and the case though, he’s actually right about some of it:
-
Even though the shell is plenty tough in terms of durability, it does scratch surprisingly easily. This is pretty well true for all HRAP cases. You can bump them and bang them all you want without a care in the world, but don’t you dare scrape it against anything!
-
The carbon fiber pattern “art” on top is not a nice acrylic-ish surface like on the HRAP2, or even a vinyl decal sticker type thing like on the HFS’s; it’s basically just a thin flimsy sheet of something laminated or glued onto the metal. I bought a HRAP3 control panel where it had just been completely peeled off (leaving a gunky residue behind)… I was told it started to come off while the stick was being disassembled, and it was effortless to finish the job. I’ve also heard and seen that it can easily get large air bubbles trapped underneath when you mod the stick. That really does seem cheap compared to what other HRAP’s have on top.
It’s definitely not what I’d call light, though!
gamingnow, I got the humor. :wonder:
Take it easy, TC. You’ve had some good feedback along with the bad. There’s gonna be some snarky comments…this is the SRK forums afterall.
Anyhow, you give any of the suggested sites a try?
I don’t mean to be rude or to go against anyone here, but wouldn’t loose buttons that are moving around be a legitimate issue? I’ve never owned an Arcade stick but that sounds pretty bad. Much worse than a wire being the wrong color or something…
Oh, I see you were kidding…Still though.
Yes Im in the process of looking around.
Im pretty darn sure I didnt spend $100 for a stick where the buttons actually move around in their slots. You’re damn right it’s a legitimate issue.
When I buy something, I have the right to be critical about what I purchased. Im someone who enjoy exceptional quality, and is willing to pay for it. In the end if I need to spend $300 on a good stick, I’ll do it.
Im also a musician who plays 6-string bass. I could buy a decent sixer for a reasonably low price, but I ended up spending 4k on a custom built bass which is the most amazing instrument ive ever seen or played. Worth every penny.
I dont like settling on something I perceive to be low quality, which is the sense I get from this stick. Seems like something I could get at toys r us. I want something strong, heavy and beautiful.
The HRAP3 weighs 5.7lbs, The Madcatz TE stick weighs 6.5lbs, and the Madcatz SE stick is going to weigh less then the Hori even.
It sounds to me like you want a hardwood custom arcade stick, that’s fine but realize that it’s going to run you a lot more then you paid for that HRAP3.
The last off-the-shelf arcade stick I bought was this POS:

I looked at the sticks Hori was selling a few times, but I ultimately decided I needed to make my own, because I didn’t want to have to adapt to using Japanese parts, and because Hori’s stock parts are notoriously crappy as far as J-parts are concerned. My current stick is built like a tank and is full of the lovely Happ / IL parts that I so longed for.
It’s all about how much you’re willing to pay. Even though my project only cost me about $80 in terms of money, the time investment was a big one. Time is what I had though, so it’s what I chose to spend rather than paying someone else $150 to make a similar stick for me. Hori sticks are relatively cheap on the spectrum, so you can’t buy one and expect it to be Arcade-In-A-Box quality. It’s a piece of plastic pressed in a fatory, while the more expensive alternative is made out of wood by human hands.
You get what you pay for, and whether or not you are satisfied depends entirely on how realistic your expectations are.
This was the case in another thread but it may not be here. Were you expecting an American style stick where the actual stick feels stiffer? I had a similar experience when buying my first Hori stick. I was expecting something like the old SF cabinet and was pissed off when I received it. There’s a large difference in American and Japanese sticks that may just be catching you off guard here.
If you’re wanting something heavier and wooden go with Arcade-In-A-Box. You will not be disappointed.
The HRAP3 is excellent and when you swap the buttons, it’ll be even better.
Haha. I hear ya man. I kinda went off the deep end. You would not believe the BS that people try to pull over on stick makers. I have been in the situation of the QD conundrum, and seeing that again sent me over.
I actually got my HRAP3 a month or so ago, and I love it. Yes, the buttons move around a bit, but it’s really not that bad. I’ll probably swap them out with Sanwas soon.
Yeah, I really suggest getting a custom if you’re not satisfied.
Yes…I also just got my HRAP 2: SA in the mail and I’m actually loving it and its design regardless of how different the case is from the TE edition of the MadCatz one, but all in all, I feel like I own a TE edition because of the quality of the buttons and stick.
I’m satisfied, and maybe the TC should just get full Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons and stick to show that even with this obviously easier transition in parts helps out in loving your arcade stick that much more!
