I agree. I mentioned on the first page that the stick would need to be examined before it was that big of a deal, but we see how much good that did -.- Not that I helped much by stepping out of my norm of just ignoring people on SRK by responding afterwards either.
As far as the spare parts issue goes, I’d personally rather whichever part is superior be used. Hori, Sanwa, Seimitsu, or otherwise. Although even if it shipped all Sanwa that wouldn’t help the matter of the touch panel situation (unless Sanwa makes touch panel parts… I’m unaware of it if they do).
And what if everyone felt that way? This then stick would sell like crap and fail.
With today’s economy, or lack thereof, and the whopping asking price of $200('cause yeah, we ALL have that kinda money just laying around on hand, right?), we’re understandably going to have some questions & concerns that need to be addressed.
Can’t just count on all the gamers that have DEEP pockets to take the plunge on this thing.
Actually, yes.
Its cool that hori is trying to do something different, but in the end we don’t care if such parts are not up to spec in performance vs proven tech with Sanwa.
I really like this stick, and I’ve heard it described as a nice in between of Seim and Sanwa (which I find myself swapping back and forth occasionally and do certain things better on one than the other). Shame about the spare parts, I would’ve swapped out my Seim in my Eightarc to give the Busa and Kuro a whirl before buying the stick. Rather large investment if I’m not sure if I’ll be able to adapt to the changes.
In one of your pictures, you swapped the Kuros for…I guess… OBSF-30’s. http://i.imgur.com/ZRKAF.jpg
How hard is it to swap the buttons? Can Seimitsu buttons fit in there too.
What is exactly the V housing cam structure they have been saying in the ads?? Are they referring to actuators?
can a Sanwa shaft cover fit the Hayabusa?
can a Sanwa balltop be used on the Hayabusa?
how about a Sanwa dust cover??
can you swap a Kuro microswitch to OBSF-30 microswitch?
I’ve been using a HRAP 3 and its stock buttons since July 2008…IIRC
And they still work fine…
I understand what you’re saying though…Some of the Hori products like the Tekken 6 wireless stick, well some people complained that the buttons didn’t last long. My friend had some of his T6 wireless stick buttons stopped working after a few months. AFAIK
Stay tuned for updates on reviews for the Fighting EDGE which will be coming out soon!! These review should answer all your questions regarding modibility and a sneak peak of the inside of the stick!!
The first review on the Fighting EDGE is up!! Check out Level Up’s in-depth review on the Fighting EDGE that will answer all the questions you may have regarding the stick!! More reviews coming soon.
At the end of the review ShinJN stated that it was a prototype version of the arcade stick. Are you able to say how the commercial release will be different, if at all?
Still disappointed that for a premium joystick you cannot change the gate.
Also noticed 4 possible hack points on the touch-panel pcb… will need to be investigated.
I dunno… This stick just worries me more and more.
I think it’s best not to mod the joystick or mess around with the PCB. It’s not as if replacement parts are going to be widely available if something goes wrong!
Unless I suddenly get an epiphany and do an 180-degree change in position, I think I’m passing on this one.
EDIT <Pulling hair>
Nice review by ShinJN! Slight change in the mount but the thing does support JLF’s and LS’s if you don’t care for the stock joystick.
I’d still keep all the stock parts in case you decide to re-sell down the line.
In spite of my own reservations, I can still see this is going to be a VERY collectible joystick. Probably much bigger/more desirable in the long-run than the VLX.
We’ll see if Hori changes stream and uses these parts in future joysticks…
It obviously won’t impact mods of current/existing joysticks or homebrew that much.
I’m sure someone here is partial to sanwa buttons and there will be a few sets circulating around in the trading outlet.
Edit:
The review says:
Changing the Joystick: Why change it? The Hayabusa is so good! But if you really want change it, you can easily change it out with a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT. If you prefer a Seimitsu joystick, use one that has the MS or RE mounting plate. The dust covers and ball top are interchangeable with Sanwa and Seimitsu parts.
Nice  So if I want a matching kuro buttons I’m forced to buy a ps3 Fighting Edge. Great job hori. So much advertising on how great will be the Kuro buttons and no replacement will be available for sell. You should at list have a replacement buttons available for sale. Let’s say I’m buying it because the buttons/joystick and after a while it gets wears down or break. Can I call the costumer service to send me a replacement or I’m forced to switch it for another name brand?
