So, my XB360 fighting edge is no longer working. At first (for about a couple of months) it would randomly disconnect. Plug it back in and it would start working again. Since I just used it at home for practice, I didn’t pay much mind to it since it only happened a couple times a week.
Today, whenever I plug it in, I get the lights faintly powering up, and then it dies.
Steps I have taken:
Swapped out the USB quick disconnect as I heard some people had a problem with it.
No cuts on the USB cord. All looks fine.
I opened it up and I didn’t see some glaring problems.
Reseated the USB connection on the main PCB.
checked USB cable with multimeter and it is getting 5v.
At this point I am thinking the main PCB is dead. I can’t imagine contacting Hori would be any type of help as I’ve had it for a year and swapped out art and buttons. Outside of that I am at a loss of what to do. I was just going to order a white FE, but now I am thinking of just having another foe hammer stick made (to the specs of the FE) if I can’t fix it. I was also kicking around the idea of getting a ps360+ and gutting it. Problem would be the S/S/H buttons though. This is by far my favorite stick. Just sucks to think that it’s broken.
Does the FE allow remapping of multiple inputs? For example having a button binded to X+Y, or a diagonal (down+forward), or a combination of direction+button?
Is there a dual mod that retains the remapping feature?
I use a back plink for SF4 but also use a extra macros for MvC3, it would be convenient to just reprogram one stick rather than shuffling with separate, differently wired ones.
I use a dash button for Marvel and the blink for SF4. It just so happens that they occupy the same spot (top right button). Both are commonly used, AFAIK neither are banned.
In my case the multiple button config would just be a matter of convenience, I usually just set a dash button with the in-game config, otherwise with the FE I would just hardbind my far right button as L+M (dash) for Marvel.
Well one button dashes in Marvel (in-game macro) and blink buttons in SF4(requiring rewiring) are not banned in tournaments.
I think it’s funny we’re talking about macro ethics when one of the biggest selling points for the FE is that Sako designed it to be able to map a blink, lol.
Dash is a double tap left or right, I am pretty sure that not a in game macro.
and blinking is just the select button, I think its cheap, people do this but its not illegal.
Your right, we should not be arguing ethics so unless you got another modding question this is Tech Talk; Tech as in Technology not technique.
Stop asking how to cheat already.
I think he asking about how in marvel l+m = dash. The FE doesn’t allow multiple buttons to be mapped to a single button. You would need to go into button config and set whatever button to be X+X.
Makes sense. I will have to order a new USB cable. Once I do that and have it all up and running, I will let you guys know if it works. I noticed on the PCB (at least on the top) there isn’t really any sort of labels for data/power/ground, so I can at least hope the colors are standard lol.
If not, I think I am going to put a PS360+ in it and live with it. My only problem is finding a space to add S/S (I believe PS360+ can do a hold S+S for home).
So just to test, I did a ghetto hack job and cut the original usb cable at the harness, stripped the wires, cut a shorter spare USB cable, stripped that and twisted the wires together. Plugged it in, and it worked. This is just temporary until the new, longer USB cables come in from mono price, but I was able to fix it. I never would have guessed it was the USB cable since I usually take really good care of my sticks. Thank you!
I appear to be having the same problem deaded by panda was. First it would randomly drop and then not get recognized by both my 360 and PS3, and switching the dongle from the stock one to another I had laying around fixed that. Now there appears to be a broken wire within the cable itself (If I don’t hold the cable just so, it loses connection, and sometimes the PS3 will give me “Unknown USB Device,” while the 360 will light up all four quadrants of the controller ring), so I’d like to replace the whole thing.
However, I’ve never messed with the wiring before, and it doesn’t appear to be an easy “snap out, snap in” fix. Beyond just fixing it, I’d like to set up some sort of plug system at the exit of the case, since I believe the problem stemmed from the wire bending outside the stick.
Is it reasonable to do something like attaching a connector (for example, one of these) at the edge of the stick, so that I can simply plug a USB cable as needed into the casing? Would be preferable to rewiring every few months, I’d imagine.
Part two of the question is, uh, how would I go about doing this? It doesn’t seem like a insurmountable task, but I’d like to be sure about what I’m doing before I destroy my favorite stick.
Here’s some images for reference:

Black cable/right hand connector is the USB
Where I’d like to place some sort of plug system, if feasible.
