the locking mechanism wore out and no longer shuts. it is quite annoying to have the hood moving around while i’m using the stick. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Do you have pictures of the latch.
Its looks like a piece broke off. Can you find that piece?
What difference would that even make? That is a molded section of the plastic shell. Aside from using acetone-based plastic cement to “melt” it back into place, that piece is most likely load/pressure bearing. As such it would just deform and/or snap again under repeated stress of opening and closing.
@Rashikal is the pic showing the top case or bottom case? Is it showing the latch mechanism area or the catch tab? If it IS the catch tab, your best bet would be to fashion something out of metal and wedge it properly within the shell where you can.
Gorilla Glue might hold it in place
Super glue won’t weld the pieces. ABS cement contains acetone which will literally MELT the pieces back together. I use it for my Gundam models to combine pieces forever.
No it wouldn’t last. Gorilla Glue is not what everyone makes it out to be.
This is how you go about it. Maybe some forms of Epoxy like JB Weld as it sets thast section becomes stronger than the ABS. Issue is that material is still weak and deform/break under stress.
Replacing the part with one out of metal, is the better solution
I’m not sure if I could weld an area that small. I think I will try the jb weld and make a flat shelf to replace the plastic that got worn down. However I won’t know if the latch will even shut.
Magnets.
