Hong Kong SF4 players Report hereeee

My arcade list as of May 30th, 2014. Definitely missing several that I don’t know about but these are the main ones to remember as far as I can tell. Click the links for Google Maps Street View positions but if you are on mobile they may not work. Feel free to send me a PM if you need clarification but no guarantees when I’ll check it.

HK Side Map Locations:

Wanchai Arcade Location - “Wanchai” or “Smoke City” - right next to the 7-11 - Extremely smokey, used to be a popular hangout but now it’s mostly scrubs. 3 pairs of machines (not linked between pairs). Average/crappy parts. Generally only worth going if you’re desperate. Runs 2011 for $3 a game.

Central Arcade Location - “Central” - Random level of competition due to the amount of people but it has become the best place to play since it’s the only 2012 arcade on HK side. 4 linked machines running 2012 for $4 and they rarely have broken parts. Weekdays at lunch hour has a pretty big crowd actually so you’ll have to wait in line but the level is pretty decent. Levels up after 6pm and tends to have great players into the evening with a dinner break around 8 or 9pm. Lots of regulars so you’ll get consistency if you come often. Still the place to go in general. Will be getting Ultra but not sure when yet.

Causeway Bay Arcade Location - “GameMax” - CLOSED AND GONE :frowning:

Kowloon Side Map Locations:

Hung Hom Arcade Location - “American Pool” or “Hung Hom” - 4 Vewlix cabinets running AE2012 and 2 CRT cabinets which might be 2011. These are the real-deal official Street Fighter cabinets imported from Japan using all Sanwa parts. The sticks feel slightly worn but still better than almost everywhere else. The buttons are near perfect. These are all new cabs so we’ll see how they maintain them in the long run but for now this is hands down the best place in Hong Kong. This place does close at 12:30am so a little sooner than most.

Mong Kok Arcade Location - “SmartGame” - 4 machines, hit and miss with the button conditions and 2 of the machines have the controls to the left of the screen but otherwise ok setup and no smoke. They are also unlinked so it is 2 seperate pairs. Still running 2011 but for $3. Lots of strong players there at nighttime, especially on fri/sat. I would say this is the place to go on the lower-mid Kowloon side for competition.

Mong Kok Arcade Location 2 - “New Town Mall” - The setups here are crap but it still gets lots of people so this is more of a last resort if you’re in the area burning time. Entrance is right in that corner into the basement.

Prince Edward Arcade Location - “Prince Edward” or “Allied Plaza” - They had 4 AE 2012 machines at one point but it looks like they are now gone so now it is just 1 pair of machines running AE 2011. Mediocre quality parts but generally they are in good condition and the arcade is pretty clean. You have to go in the ground floor and walk around inside until you find the arcade door because it is very hard to spot. Try listening for the loud noises.

Lai Chi Kok Arcade Location - “Lai Chi Kok” or “The Kok” - 4 machines of decent quality, fairly well lit and just a bit of smoke. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen good players gather here and you’re almost never going to find strong ones during the day.

Tsuen Wan Arcade Location - “Tsuen Wan” - 4 nice machines, clean arcade. I was only here once but the last big tournament was held there. Kind of out in the boonies though if you live on HK side.

Sup guys, going back to HK end of this week. Probably won’t be around to play till after New Year but looking forward to it. I will be staying in HK side this time around. So yeah, hit me up I know last time didn’t get enough time for sessions and I’m sure you guys are def leveling up.

I’m in HK. Any planned outings or whatnot? Gotta fight the jetlag. I’m staying in Kowloon Tong this week, no idea where to go. I’m considering just heading to SmartGame by myself, but I’m a bit afraid of getting lost in Mong Kok at night, heh.

Ended up making it out to Tsuen Wan for about an hour. I was completely unprepared to fight a Seth and a T. Hawk, lol. (as an update, there were 3 head-to-head setups, none of which had 2012 yet.)

Aw too bad about the no-2012 yet. I was actually at SmartGame yesterday for a little while, went to GameMax tonight. I guess I’ll try to let you know if I plant o head to an arcade next time

Those spots have 2012?

gamemax and smartgame have it for sure

Central = 4 machine linked with 2012.

Went to New Town Mall today in MK after a movie. Still on 2011 AE, but the setups felt perfectly fine to me. (as an aside, they have Tekken Tag tournament 2 if anyone cares, lol).

I’m probably going to SmartGame later tonight… I think… like from 7:30-9:30 or so.

Found SmartGame today, but could only stop in for 1 game. Seemed like it was still on original AE? (I use Cammy - did an HK spiral arrow on Akuma and still went through him in the corner.) The machine with controls of the left was off at the time.

Random, but I also found another “SmartGame” somewhere in Mong Kok… not sure where, it was on the 3rd floor. Gave it quick look. Tons of smokers inside, only one head-to-head SF4 machine, buttons were spotty. It was running 2012 for sure, though. Probably won’t be going back there, lol.

Hit up Central for just a few games today - lots of smoke, but the machines are running 2012 now. Strong competition, good machines.

BRB ME AND CORD ARE TOO BUSY PLAYING BATTLEFIELD

Do tnmt happen often? Would love to enter one before heading back to the states.

Left HK today - it was fun. As a parting gift to myself, I picked up a Qanba Q4 for $840 at SSP before I left =D. Cheaper than a TE, triple modded, all Sanwa parts? Yes please.

Aww too bad we couldn’t meet up. I’ve been mega busy constantly for the past few weeks, barely touched arcade at all. Maybe next time lol

I stopped by New World Mall and Smart Game today since I was in MK and neither has 2012. However I spoke with my friend who I’ve call up to play whenever I am in town said Whampo Garden (American Pool is the name of the arcade) now has 2012 and 4 set ups. The comp if it was like 08 when OG SF4 was out should be strong. They have the true Viewlix cabs at this spot.

I will see what my schedule is like and stop by there some time this week. I’ll hit up this thread a day or so before in case anyone else is down.

Also, anybody got a better location or key words to use to find the Wanchai arcade? Was in the area walked around a few blocks with 7-11s and could not find it.

Yo Smart Game has 2012 for sure… we’ve been playing there for a while already… unless I’m super crazy and didn’t notice I was actually playing 2011 still but I even specifically noticed that I didn’t get counter-hit through SB just last night. Are you going to the wrong Smart Game… there’s another place upstairs like a block away called Smart Game that nobody goes to… If Whampoa Garden really has good setups then that’s pretty sweet, though I’m not there that often, good to know. Regarding Wanchai, the map links that I posted (scroll up) should be pointed right at the front door of the arcade so I really don’t know how much more direct it can get lol. (The title sign has been updated recently, so the text is a little different but the location is identical).

There are 2 Smart Games now? The one I am talking about is the spot we went to last time I was here a few months ago when we met up and got about an hour in. It is on the 2nd floor, the entrance is next to the Hui Lan San (Mango Pudding spot). Where is the 2nd location?

Sorry man, I was looking at the thread from my phone and when I clicked the Wan Chai link it just said Wan Chai on the map lol.

sup. i guess if you’re opening it on your phone it might have been whack, but the wanchai arcade is at the cross section of Marsh Street and Hennessy Road. It’s next to the 7-11 on the corner of Marsh and Hennessy. What’s your #? Hit us up, mine is 9317 4948 (text/whatsapp during work hours lol)
