She won’t change in OE either… They’ve said they aren’t fucking with the gameplay. They’d be shooting themselves in the foot if they did anyway.
What lostintheflurry said is what comes to mind mostly. Especially when your exposure to the game is GGPO where with a ping above 50 it’s hard to see stuff coming.
I don’t think Chun is all that to be honest. I see Ken as being a better character than Yun or Chun because he’s a threat with or without super, he has great pokes, great combos, great supers, great damage… Yun and Chun are top tier mainly because they each have a great super, and supers are quite possibly THE most important element in 3s, like it or not. But without a super stocked, Yun and Chun aren’t as dangerous as Ken or Makoto are. People just parrot what they hear because they haven’t put the time into the game.
Yeah she is beatable by any characters but she’s still the strongest of the whole lot, this has been proved tournament-wise in 10+ years of 3S and even going for a game breakdown she take most advantage of almost every scenario in this game [let’s say block and punish for example but i dont really want to go into theory fighter]; and that’s why people around the world will always bring out that Japanese tier/rank list that has a sense only in Japan.
And yes i agree that she is not so easy to play, actually requires some skills to be a good chun.
Don’t want to sound rude but i don’t really get the point of this thread, let me explain…you are a good player so why listening to random retards that post bs just because they have an internet connection? Every good player that understand the game know this is all bullshit. Yes Chun and Yun are toptiers. There are tops in every game, so what? Get rid of those two and then start ranting for ken/mak/dud all over again?
I might be wrong but ain’t u a little insecure about this whole thing, i mean changing your main from Urien to Chun, switching tier class from mid to god. What reason did u have to do so? Were u tired of urien, lost faith or simply couldn’t step up your game with him? And if it’s the last one, did your ego suffer some damage in the process?
I think if u still love this game so much u should not go asking people to fill in a questionnaire, trying to inculcate into people minds the idea that chun is beatable by all chars and not broken.
yeah its almost unbelievable that a game is pretty much dead in America, all because of evo. i dont even wanna get into my opinions on evolution, thats a whole different discussion thats already got me in trouble in the past lol.
to be honest i never really noticed as many crybabies online as i do now.
thats true tho, if they just mash buttons chun would own lol.
yeah exactly. its 2011!! time to make a change and stop these parrots!
i simply made this thread because maybe some people who like to complain about chun and 3s will take the time to think and realize its not as simple as people see. This game is pretty much the laughing stock of the american fighting game community now.
the real reason i switched to chun was because the first time i came to japan, I was blown away by how good the chuns were. no offense to justin and ricky (basically americas top 2 chuns) but they dont know shit compared to what MOV, nuki, and rikimaru know. i wanted to use chun cuz i felt no one in america was using her to her full potential.
my choice had nothing to do with chun being better than urien. anyone that has played with me irl knows that i rarely pick chun in casuals. I have been using Q a lot recently and i wanted to use him in the recent westcoast warzone tourney until 3s got dropped for mk vs dc.:looney:
btw wasn’t it said a couple years ago on here (by people who went to japan) that kuroda refuses to use chun because he thinks she’s busted? any details on that?
if i had to guess id say that statement about kuroda is false. ive heard so many different “kuroda said this” statements before. ive heard that kuroda thinks gouki is the best character in 3s. unless you actually asked him, i dont think theres any way to find out.
Interesting thread dude, I’ll answer a few things:
I’ve played a lot of random Chuns, only one of which I’d say was good. I beat them pretty well with my Alex. The Chun player I respect most would be (correct me if I’m mistaken) is Nuki, mostly for his crazy commentary but I have to admit that his Chun is good. Like everyone else I play a character that suits my strengths and is fun to use. If I picked Chun could I win more matches? Not really. The Chun/Ken matchup is definitely in her favor, but I feel that Chun/Urien is pretty even. But I feel it’s 50/50 with those characters against my Alex. To become a top player is more than just picking a powerful character. Actually I’m just not a fan of the SF2 cast for the most part. I got spoiled by SNK and their characters who have some real personality whereas the SF2 cast come off as very stock. I do give the devs behind 3S some credit in trying to give the SF2 characters some personality.
As far as Sean being as good as Chun if he had a (lets admit it) a broken Kara-throw and a good super? Nah. The Kara-throw is without question Chun’s greatest tool, and a Chun match becomes a throw fest pretty quickly. But, there’s more to it than that. She has some of the best pokes in the game, and they’re safe on block. Lightning Legs are safe on block, and you could try to parry it but it’s extremely difficult to hit her out unless she does the Legs with a little distance between the two of you. B+HP. Her sweep is an AA. Name me one or two other fighting games where a character has a very fast sweep, that can also AA? Add all that together and you have a wall of a character that you have to break through. The saving grace in the Chun matchup is that her wakeup game fucking sucks so you’re goal is to knock her ass down, mix it up, and do not let her escape.
picking chun li can have its benefits in certain areas of your overall game, like footsies, punishments and reactions…these things, imo, are the most important part of a players overall 3s game cuz it helps a LOT…i still play yang simply because it suits my style well, but anytime i play chun it allows me to switch gears and adjust myself to a different play style and allows me to learn more…most ppl just look at it as a win/lose type of thing when they should be looking at it as a learning experience instead
yes i understand you pay money for tournaments so it can be considered a win/lose type of thing but then again you cant win all the tournaments especially when you have tough competition in your area
P.S- all this is just referring to switching to chun and ppl who might complain about her winning…not saying anyone should but it has its benefits…you can learn more about the character which can help you fight the character when you need to…thats my take on it
^^ You could say the same with any game really. Go from playing Ryu in St then to Gief. But I don’t think Chun is as radical of a change as Yang. There’s two kinds of Chuns: Aggressive and Turtle (ala Justin Wong) style. If you really want to switch it up you should use Hugo or hell, even Alex or Necro.
Some of you guys are too nice. The people who complain about Chun Li are SOFT and LAZY. Thats why they complain about the character.
They dont want to take the time to learn whats necessary to compete against the character. It actually takes time and work to stand a chance against a a good Chun li player…so lets just nerf the bitch and make the softees happy.
i like fighting against a good chun because of the challenge. Let me see Face again and it’s on!! If I ever get the pleasure of playing Ryan in 3S i want that chun all day. win or lose you’ll at least learn something
On a random day you’ll go into ggpo and see Nica or Metric in the lobby. Think any of these softees will hit em up and ask for a set with them using chun, yun or ken to improve on the matchup? No. and thats the real problem. its not the characters but the players
I don’t think Chun is THAT bad. Is she the best in the game yeah but shes not broken. I mean what can she do when she has no meter? She can’t punish or do big damage unless she has meter. So if you play the match by the time she has meter she can lose so much health that the match is in your favor. A lot of blocking has to happen and you have to crouch tech like a champ.
But the people who complain about Chun are the people who don’t like to work on matchups and they want everything to be spoon fed to them. When really all you have to do is find good Chuns and play them A LOT and it wont turn out as hard as it is.
