Honest Question. Are you a 'waiter'?

Yesterday I beat a Gief by time out in the 3rd to win the set in Championship Mode. He messaged me and said “I have no honor”. I’m not the type to gloat so I didn’t respond. But pretty much I only turtle when I feel I have to. I will always turtle against a good Gief as should everyone else. And I will turtle against a good patient player.

I’m 2-7 against this Sakura player. I’ve lost so many close fights and managed to win a few, but only because I was actually the one “running away” because he/she was better up close and had good reflexes to counter my jump ins. Sometimes if you want to win, that’s how you have to play.

this!

alot of new players (myself included for a long time) get the misconception that to play rushdown they have to be attacking CONSTANTLY. like allways having an attack going at your opponent and to start the next attack as soon as humanly possible. and the decent ones will at least know what attacks to use at varying ranges… but they are still just gonna get tore up by anyone who recognizes that there just hitting buttons like crazy, it’s why i ate a crap-ton of ultra’s and “random” dp’s (i realize in hindsight they weren’t random at all). the trick is to vary when you start your strings and when you end them, you can be playing rushdown and take a small break every once in a blue moon so as to not be predictable.

the best part about doing it this way is it actually makes rushing a lot easier and more effective because your small gaps bait out dp’s and once you have punished once or twice you make them reluctant to continue trying them, thus your free to go crazy on them a bit more than might be advisable.

edit: any gief that complains about being turtled on has no fucking clue how to play sf…

I just bulldog people with bison. I have no fear and neither should you.

SF4 is boring, id rather play a fighting game that doesnt reward players for running away

You should pick up boxing, I hear they don’t throw fireballs in that game.

Running away and turtling doesn’t have much to do with fireballs, but instead Ultras, big stages, weak throws that are easily teched when you do finally catch up, auto reversal, lack of tools to crack defense & run aways for certain characters, etc.

sf4 sucks, period

Their playstyle is their playstyle, If it works it works…

If the other player is safe, and they want to learn how to beat them, they’ll have to learn how to do it regardless of what threads we make or don’t make here.

And if they don’t strive to improve, that’s their choice…

I met a guy yesterday, akuma that ran away… that was such a boring game, i got my ass kicked cause he was kind a lamer.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt here. Probably wrong, but I don’t care.

or I could play mvc2, and do what ever the hell i want.

Sakura’s Ultra is weak sauce. The damage it does is not enough to scare anyone, especially those with high stamina.

^^
This vid is a great example of a run-away turtle. Someone needs to find a good vid of a do-nothing Ryu. Those are the worst.

SF4 = Turtle Fighter 4 =[

I’m a waiter if that’s what I need to win. Mainly depends on match-ups and/or the opposition’s play style.

So no, not generally speaking. I’m more of a safe player than a “waiter”. But I’ll definitely wait it out if the opposition makes it a point to turtle or if I’m having trouble with the match up. I’ll have no problem trying to sit on a life lead.

your joking right? Ryu’s mom was a turtle and his father was a humpback whale.

You bought the game to complain about not buying it to wait on the internet?

I rarely have the patience to wait, but if I have a decent HP lead, I might force the most campy chars to come to me.

I main Rog, and usually when fighting a good blanka player, I do use the same strat, apart from trying to annoy him so he comes after me, and just counter on his mistakes since you can pretty much counter most of his offensive moves.

lolz, i hate blanka players, along with rog cuz of the charge they’ve got when they play the waiting game. But I guess that’s all they can really do against Gief. When I DO have the HP ahead of them . . . then “I” play the waiting game and let them come to me. It’s fun to play their games sometimes as Gief. Then there is that big ultra surprise right after the GH. LoLz, and i’ve done it to quite a few players. They must be going . . . “WTF!?!?!?!” then my HP lead is almost impossible to beat with such a little time. and boom . . . beat you at your own little game. I’ll post up a pic of a blanka player who rage quitted on me when I beat him at his little waiting game.

A good Gief player can get suckered in quite quickly if the Rog is ontop of his game, I’ve put a lot of good Giefs to shame, with their Lariat/greenhand game, and the newbie giefs are childsplay since they pretty much just spam lariats the entire fight, so I just get the timing right, and punish.
