Honest Question. Are you a 'waiter'?

I play largely reactionary, but if somebody decides they’re going to fall asleep in a corner like that then I’ll advance on them. Defensive vs. offensive players and vice versa.

no way!? you fought a turtle honda… sheesh how unreasonable of him to not attack you like an idiot.

ok to be serious though honda was practically designed to turtle till his opponent makes a mistake and then punish him, he has very few ways of going on the offensive in a safe manner, to my knowledge he doesn’t have a viable block-string and very few ways to hit-confirm into any kind of large combo, as such when a honda gets a lead and some meter you should completly expect them to turtle like crazy

Depends on the player too…

Grief is a nightmare though. Same with playing against good Sim’s/Seth’s.

You have to wait you cant get around it in Clutch play.

I find sitting in the corner doing nothing really hype

It’s not even a matter about playing risky or safe, it’s a matter of playing smart. If there’s obviously not an opportunity to bring on an assault on your opponent, then don’t do it. If you think you can make an opening, go for it, but do so intelligently so that you don’t become predictable. If there isn’t an opportunity and the situation is right, it’s perfectly fine to turtle.

I find myself turtling quite a bit, especially if I have an opponent cornered. It’s not the best habit, as I’d prefer to be applying constant chip damage and pressure, but for right now I know what I’m capable of and effectively applying corner pressure isn’t it: so I sit at a proper distance and try to keep them in that corner; air throws/flash kicks on jumps, poke/boom/throw if they walk at me. Does it always work? Not necessarily, but I can usually get a lot of damage in during these periods.

You really shouldn’t need to turtle as a Rog…Rog vs Blanka is such a bad match for Blanka…

For the Blanka player it is the only way to go because he can’t rush down on you…any blocked moved is punishable…

Turtling shouldn’t really happen because whoever has life lead has the right to turtle…if you’re trailing…don’t turtle…it’s simple as that…

I watched the vid…it’s really not turtling by the Blanka…he just played the match right…he picked his spots to attack…you just got outplayed.

What else do you call sitting across the screen doing nothing for 20+ seconds?? Jumping back and electricity spam don’t count as attacks when you are a full screen away. Hell the first attack doesn’t land until 20 seconds after the match starts, and the second round times out.

Yes, that is turtling. Even though it may be the best tactic, don’t try to say it’s not turtling.

no no

I’m no waiter all I do is serve cats

I’m not a waiter, I’m a turtle.

BTW, the only block string Honda has is c.lk c.lp HHS s.hk

except c.lp xx HHS is not a true block-string and you can get reversal DP’d out of the middle, not to mention you can get reversal dp’d out of the s.hk after a blocked hhs. idk about c.lk > c.lp i’ll have to test that out when i get home from work unless someone wants to shed some light on it for me before then.

edit: i’m an idiot i can just check the frame data for my answer and it’s as clear as day. cr.lk leaves you at +2 on block cr. lp has 4 frames of startup, so there is a 1 frame hole there to get reversaled, next up cr. lp on block leaves you neutral, and the move has 7 frames of recovery, so let’s say you cancel out of all of that your still canceling into HHS which has 9 frames of startup. again there is a hole there.

This.

For nearly every matchup that is in Balrog’s favor, the best strategy is to wait and punish.

2 frame gap between honda’s c.lk, c.lp. I get dp’d by scrubbies all day for attempting a non-tight block string. Shit’s annoying.

i play blanka… and i only beat rogs that rush.

Waiter? lol, you mean turtle.
It’s a lame strategy. When people use it I just get irritated and if I lose a round I make sure the next round I get the lead early and then I just sit back the entire match and give them a taste of their medicine. It’s annoying. And while some will say its a legit strategy, and maybe it is. I’d still call it a cowardice strategy. This is a fighting game, not hide in the corner game.

If I get decent sized lead I sit on it, as anyone should in Street Fighter 4 in my opinion.

My approach in general is defensive with all the chars I play.

Versatile is absolutely right.

If you have a lead, your opponent gets desperate. They’ll do stupid moves, and that’s when you capitalize. Or they try to stick to their gameplan and time runs out on them.

I also find baseball boring when they aren’t hitting homeruns left and right. Chess is stupid until I get to knock the opponent’s king over. It should just be a game of nothing but knocking kings over. Soccer? Can we just have nothing but shoot offs all game please? YAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN!!! Stop boring up my games with strategy NERDS!

btw…Boxer > Blanka 7/3 easily…no question. I know though, it sucks when Blankas won’t just jump into Headbutt, Ultra for free.

I’m usually an offensive player, I really don’t like to wait or turtle I need action! lol and that’s the main reason I lose some fights :frowning:

I’m sorry for the misinformation. I guess playing Boxer really limits my options on how to break through loose blockstrings. Not being able to mash out SRK FTL :frowning:
