I humbly submit a video of me playing in a local tourney last month. I’d love to get some feedback about my play style, no one else plays Honda where I live  The sagat player I faced so far has won every tourney in our town. He’s a bit of a spammer, I can hear him every time he goes for a throw or a tiger upper, just repeats the same motion over and over until it comes out, and sadly I can’t beat it. Anyhoo, any comments-compliements-flames will be appriciated :bgrin:

i got some feedback for you dont use your super unless that jumping sagat eats the first headbutt
To nakatomi
my .02 about video
Are you on a pad or a stick? Seems your on a pad because I didn’t see HHS once.
*Jumpin follow-ups. you landed alot of jumpin but you either s.rh or didn’t followup. You should be fp HHS, s.rh or c.mk xx fp HB after a successful jump in. Just chipping w/ HHS in that situation leaves you at +frames and in the perfect distance for Honda.
*Use better punishers. After a whiffed upper cut you used foward throw. You have way better options. Walk-up ochio; c.mk xx fp HB; s.lp, c.lp xx fp HHS; all of those do 100+ more damage than a normal throw. Honda’s throws have their uses, back throwing into the corner, forward throw to set up walk up ochio/hhs/crossup/poke mixups but you have better “free damage” options.
*Super/Ultra. That Sagat was very predictable. Every time he knocked you down he meatied a low tiger no matter what distance he was at. This is a free ultra or super every round. You got him once. I would be buffering the motion every time I woke up waiting for a tiger to punish. When you block a jumpin - tiger bnb he always paused then low tigered which is also a free ultra/super.
Hit confirm into super:
AA jab HB xx Super
Jumpin, cl.mp xx fp HHS xx super
Bnb HHS combo xx super
Follow blocked mk/hk buttslams with lk buttslams, ochios, ex headbutt, or ultra (comeback386 style).
More HHS pressure.
Thanks for the feedback! Off to training mode :bgrin:
This is the hype shit that gets me out of bed in the morning.

So far in the month of February and March, Akimo of Japan has gotten Honda 12 win points. Each 1st place finish is 3 pts, 2nd place is 2 pts and 3rd place is 1 pt. That’s one hell of a streak he’s got going. All credit for these vids goes to nohoho and his amazing blog.
In terms of Akimo’s play-style, he always links the HHS combo somehow off of hit confirms and plays right outside of everybody’s sweep range like a beast. He’s apparently TRF’s veteran Honda player and gets revenge on Riku, the Chun who beat him a few trf’s ago. Guy blows through sagat tigers w/ ultra like it’s easy shit. Probably smokes a lb of crack a day.
lol after watching them i see now it is in hondas best interest to make sagat throw a full screen tiger when honda has a lead and then jump in to get closer and from there hop and walk hah thats great

Don’t think this has been posted yet:
Mike Ross Vs. somuchdamage (Paul)

Fuckin’ ownage, against Sagat no less. I love his dash forward>oicho. I can never get anyone to stand still for that.
Sadly Mike Ross lost overall, but still a lot to learn from this.

One hell of an ending if you’re willing to set thru the chun-li walk back kikoken bullshit.
Some interesting tricks. Dash buffered HHS. HHS xx FADC, ochio was sweet but I don’t know if it’s worth the risk and/or meter. But used in moderation and late in the match it could be worth the it as sneaky mixup.

A bit blurry, but it’s Mike Ross representing Honda against Justin Wong’s Rufus in the National finals of the Gamestop tournament.
Hard ass matchup for Hyundai. But Mike repped well as usual. God…fuck Rufus.

A honda kicks the crap out of a sagat. Then it’s a honda mirror. Then he beats teh shit out of a helpless viper. Then it’s another mirror match. Then he stomps a gief.

Honda vs Ryu (intense match). Akimo makes me wanna cry sometimes. That’s 15 pts in a little over 2 months. Counter-hit s.fp xx SUPER GOOOOOOOOOO!!! Ryu’s everywhere be scared.
That guy’s sagat is below average at best all you have to do is bait him into tiger uppercuts then ochio throw him. Also whats the use of haveing a full ex bar and waste it on a super trying to be fancy keep it simple. Ex headbut is hondas best anti air he just kept jumping in on you and you never punished him for it also i saw you kept tapping back and forth whats the reason for this? you have a charge chracter play him like one you cant ex or headbut if your constantly tapping back forward i know your trying to play a bait game but dont overdo it another thing is you should go in practice mode and work on linking your FK when you jump in follow FK up with jab headbut or LK headbut. Not trying to be harsh but that match was hard to watch knowing that you could have smoked that sagat easy.
anyone seen any good japanese honda vs akuma vids?
i was just playing against ed ma’s akuma and lets just say my butt is still sore.
this matchup has me stumped.
learn the distance of the butt slams. the 2nd hit always whiffed right in front of him. against sagat you shouldn’t be abusing that too much anyway. unless you get the 2nd hit to tag him very late he can pretty much reversal shoryu every time. and if he does block and you try to do a second one right after if he mashes tiger uppercuts his will beat yours unless you burn an ex
every time you supered i wanted to cry. its so hard for honda to buid meter, and when you use it it gets wasted. when you actually hit him with the jab headbutt you dont super. when he blocks it you do. dont mash it out. for the most part you can tell whether or not the jab headbutt is going to hit. if he’s coming in really deep he either gets to block or you get hit out of it. if he’s still high above you as he’s coming its pretty guaranteed.
once you play more you’ll be able to tell when you can AA headbutt and can’t.
he whiffed so many shoryus and your biggest punish was to throw. ochio that shit. you need to make him scared to just randomly throw shoryus out. and the only way to do that is to hit him hard every time he whiffs. if he whiffs a shoryu focus attack dash in ochio
finish your combos. practice up til you can do it 100% of the time in training mode. that guy would always end up mashing shoryus mid combo and you kept getting hit bc you weren’t finishing. if you mess up on a combo just wait it out and dont push anything. that our you would land a jump in and not do anything after. at the very least do a stand roundhouse after
mind game that fool purposely mess up on your combo once and see if he mashes shit out then punish. but you can only do that if you get him scared by lettin him know that you will jump-in, cr. forward, headbutt his ass if you land a successful jump in attack
that’s all i have for now. back to work
The target combo you should be doing almost every time is c.lk, c.lk, c.lp xx fp/ex headbutt (depends on range) or c.lk/s.lp, c.lp xx fp hhs, s.rh
you can easy-mode the first combo by using this shortcut:
c.lk~lp, c.lk~lp, c.lp xx fp headbutt
the c.lk~lp means you hit crouching light kick and then almost instantly press the light punch button. This gives you two chances to link the crouching light kick since you’ve pressed two buttons. This method of comboing is called kirby linking/plinking, and is gone into in depth on the first page of the SFIV thread.
I was reading about this yesterday… the plinking thing. But from what i understand u can’t link lp and lk together because they have the lowest priority. That’s still not going to stop me from trying it tho Thanks for the info.
