I think akimo is playing honda more than dee jay now cause he realizes honda is a better character. If you look up takehiko and window, you’ll find a fat set of honda vs gief where he just bodies the guy over and over despite the similar bp’s.
come on akimo-san dump deejay and stick with the fat man. would love to see him in some upcoming tourneys using honda. he can only be more dominating now.

Hope to see you on the 31st Brett. Sorry I missed you guys once again last night.
Some good stuff there, though I would suggest working on your tick ochio’s some more. Almost every time you threw out a st.lk or cr.lk i could tell an ochio was coming up. I highly suggest learning cr.lk > cr.lp xx HHS combo, as well as cr.lk > cr.lp xx headbutt, also st.lk > cr. lp xx HHS
If you show that you can do these combo’s in a match, it will force your opponent to have to guess weather or not an ochio is going to come out or if he should block the HHS.
So for example, I do cr.lk cr.lp HHS in one round, then the next round I will do something like cr.lk, cr.lp Ochio.
It is a 1 framer between cr.lk and cr.lp, but can set you up for further mind games, and you may even set up for some tick U2’s with it.
My friends hate my set ups, because I am always keeping them on the guessing end, lol.
But good stuff with the st. far lk to ochio, that is one set up that works all the time for me
Tighten up HHS spacing, if you leave too much of a gap Cody can U2 the missing hands.
When doing sumo loops and you have them scared like that feel free to try and sneak Ultra 2 in.
Try using cr. Jab to poke more, it’s less risky than Standing HK and will net you move meter.
Use Cr.Jab into hands to punish Ex-Zonk.
If at full screen jump over rocks instead of taking chip damage.
On Wake-up don’t do Cr. Mk into ex HB work on doing HHS after the Cr. mk for more chip and meter conservation.
Work on your standing Hp (Jesus Chop) as an AA tool at 5:56 you could have used it to end the round.
If you land New Jersey Fierce and are out of range to link HHS then use Standing Roundhouse, no need to lose out on free damage.
My thoughts with Cody is if you get him to the corner there isn’t much he can do.
(Ex-Zonk, Jump, Throw or Ultra) If you’re on the lookout for those attacks you just wait and push for something to counter it. Jesus chop grounds jumps or you can use NJ Fierce/RH to AA or drop down and go back into chip pressure with hands.
Don’t full screen Ex-HB when you have the lead, force him to come over then punish him with it.
Good jump on not wasting meter on FADC Oicho. I’m still trying to kick that habbit.
There is an excellent post on the front page right now about some guy’s experience at evo. What I really could relate to in his write up was about him talking about money matching Alex Valle. He went on to lose w/ his guile and talked about how he was downloaded after the first match. The guy who made the post would go on to describes his gameplay as robotic, and even “weak.” I dont know the background of this guy, but I know same exact thing happened to me. I went to the salty suite thinking to myself, hell, I can beat any of these guys. I beat other top players in money matches, I practice hard, and I am a turtling machine!
After the first round Alex had me unable to do a damn thing, I just sat there and got raped…
I don’t want anyone to have to learn this the hard way, as I did.
Playing this style of Honda, my style, this video style, is getting old. People have adapted to this playstyle and have counters against it. Yah, it may get you a win at a local tourny or gather you over 10k BP online, but play anyone with any type of experience and you will get smashed.
So before I critique this video, which was pretty much god awful :karate:, and a cookie cut of all other Honda players. I am here to say to all of you, lets try and think outside of the box. Forget Akimo, we dont need to watch his videos to learn new and exciting things w/ Honda. Lets experiment a little and figure some new shit out.
If you are w/ me vow to yourself these things:
- I will not do wakeup EX-headbutt on every single wake up.
- I will not use EX-headbutt when anti-airing when a jab-headbutt would have done trick.
- Butt slams are to be used sparingly and not spammed after knockdowns.
- I will not do HHS after every landed jab. Mike Ross spoke on Cross Counter (yes I watch it) of how he uses jab as a poke instead of only use to hit-confirm HHS, and I think he is on to something.
- Most characters can safe-jump OS Honda after untechable knockdowns, I vow to block on meaty jumpins after these setups.
Ok, I have finished my rant. Come back SnK
@ #3…what honda have you seen spam buttslams? and how exactly can anyone punish it after the second one is blocked? (spd’s dont count you dont buttslam gief or thawk)
Let’s take ryu for example…you knock him down with an oicho, you do a lk buttslam as he is rising he has no choice but to block if you time it right, it’s at this point where honda finds his options…
option 1. you do another buttslam he either blocks it…your safe, he tries to tech a grab…he gets knocked down, he srks…at best it trades or it whiffs, he jumps towards you…he escapes however it is at that point you try option 2
option 2… you DONT do another buttslam…(real scientific stuff here) instead you neutral jump fierce/roundhouse… he jumps he gets raped…if he srks…well he must not know lk and mk buttslam are safe and you should treat him as a scrub…
option 3… you do an ex headbutt…beats any poke or grab attempt, beats srk if you pull your move out 2nd… if he jumps you fly away
option 4…U2…hey its viable after you train them to respect your ass, literally…but you must land nearly in the middle of them before you can do it
option 5… backdash…meh…not my favorite option
i’m not saying do this at a range where you are telegraphing the slam and it gets focused as soon as you perform the move but this move does not suck and i even think it misses less then in vanilla
Sid: I also wrote a list of the sorts.
First off you need put this song on while reading. (Read Aloud)

- No full screen Headbutts.
- No Sumo Splashes.
- No wasted EX-HB (Fucking block if you have to)
- No FADC Oicho; the reasoning behind this is you can do 400 damage from two counter hit Headbutt or go into cr. jab after the dash to attempt to stop the jump.
- No Random Button presses, I myself still have this problem of pressing buttons when I shouldn’t. (Don’t give away free health)
- Time Anti-Air Fierce (Jesus Chop) Honda doesn’t have to hold down back at all when he has the lead. Most Japanese players actually prefer to stay neutral so they can move and adjust for proper spacing.
- Don’t Waste Meter. Honda is scary when he has one stock now imagine what type of nightmare he is when the screen is flashing SUPER he is a force to reckon with. Don’t get all crazy trying to fish for counter hits. If you feel something coming up or see a hole in someones Block String then counter hit but if not save that shit.
- Don’t jump, please stop jumping at people. What can someone do if honda is walking forward? They have to try and zone you or they will get pushed to the corner and end up being in a world of hurt.
- Work on establishing good corner pressure. Don’t walk someone to the corner and then let them leave. Be patient and start playing paper, rock, Dictator. Jump with them if they try to escape or space a well timed Jesus chop to stop them from leaving. Also make sure your hand pressure is tight and all hits connect. If not you’ll end up eating a major ultra or some momentum shifting move.
- OICHO!!! Stop spamming them, matter O’ fact hardly use the damn thing. The fact alone that he has a command throw gives most opponents a scare. If you can see it working then go for it if not let them maintain the fear of you having it and keeping an eye out for something that won’t be used.
- Block, Walk up Block, Cross up Block, Down Block but remember to stay on the offense. (Passive Aggressive) Don’t go full throttle but also don’t bring your offense to a complete stop. If you can finish the round by all means go for it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost because I’ve simply just stopped attack. (Take my vs Filipino Champ at Devastation, I could have forced a game three but I stopped trying to get in after I obtained the life lead.)
- Learn to adjust to the situation at hand. You better figure it out real fast or I would suggest Rufus. We are Honda players not one trick ponies.
End Rant. Take it back Sid.
P.S. people who mindlessly spam Buttslam are shitty Honda players.
P.S.S. YOUR FUCKING HONDA, BEAT THE LIFE OUT OF WHO EVER SETS THEIR FOOT IN THE RING WITH YOU! E.HONDA! EAT RICE BITCH!!!
pretty much solid advice given here that I, being scrubbyscrub i am, still have a hard time keeping in mind. But when I do follow those points I will win.
Jab as a poke is so good, both as a normal move and mind game install. It gives honda a sense of presence that amounts to a lot more than hit-confirming a HHS afterwards. It creates that awkward off-beat in the footsie game where two players are trying to find their rhythm. Jab-quick pokes are good that way for all characters.
@jewelman: I dont think s1d was talkign about buttslams on their wakeup but rather when any honda player is knocked down. They get knocked down and then use buttslam as a get away move (1:40 in that video) and often get punished.
I share the same idea that buttslam are Ugh, no one remind me of my evo matches >,<
Im gonna go take Mr.SNK’s advice on this one… and go make myself a bowl of rice
I’ve tried out honda for like 2 weeks and been watching a lot of videos and been trying to figure him out a bit but I notice that while a lot of people just turtle or spam butt slam once they get the knockdown, there are many different ways to play… my jab hhs isn’t 100% (probably not even 70%) so i’m sure this gimps my game a lot, but what are honda’s goals as a character?
He doesn’t have the best zoning tools or pokes, he only has like headbutt and buttslam anti air (unless u can really space out the far s fp).
I just dont know what i’m supposed to do with him… and of course the cliche thing to say is “well play him based on what your opponent is doing” but… i mean for instance…
Lets say i fight… Ryu. so i’m neutral jumping fierce over fireballs and i’m what – trying to get a life lead with s hk , jab and s fp? trying to gain ground on him and push him in the corner so i can get some jab hands on him?
I’m sure there isn’t a cookie cutter style for him, but I just want to know what honda players feel they should be taking advantage of in the matchups. Are multiple buttslams on an opponent’s wakeup EVER a good idea? I challenged a sakura player and after a few games she would start using cr fp to AA the buttslams (maybe i wasn’t doing them meaty enough? shrug) … Is using the buttslam some kind of frame trap or something? don’t understand how putting out one or two of those on an opponent’s wakeup doesn’t become predictable… I would love to play some top honda’s with whatever matchups just to get a feel for what you guys do to be such an offensive threat.
IMO honda is pretty strong and has cool stuff but is lacking in a lot of areas. I just want to know what areas u guys think are where he truly excels at so I can use them more often and what areas he is shit at so i can be more wary with its use. (i always thought s hk was the go to poke in footsie wars but seems pretty slow to me and it has been getting beaten out a bit in my latest matches)
Honda has some amazing pokes, cr.j, s.fk, s.fp. My goal when playing Honda is about 30% turtle, 40% try to get closer, 25% poke and 5% pure frustration when playing Guile and Chun-Li… I litterally sigh out loud when I see one pop up on Ranked matches.
But really, you gotta keep moving in on them, get your poke kicks / Jesus chops in and really work on the hundred hand slap piano (but don’t feel bad if you miss it, very very few people are at 100%, most hover around 80-90%).
why not buttsplash with honda especially since u can mix it up and make it a 50/50 situation on knockdown for your opponent…
if anything hondas but spash is kinda like c.vipers cross up burn kick imo
oh wait…
Petition to make sumo splash light on fire.
i tried =(…
Butt slam isn’t unusable if you can predict jumps, but I wouldn’t go spamming it for sure.
I don’t really see the point in mentioning valle cause he has a really weird playstyle. He basically likes to be on the offense the whole time meaning you should not be on the defense when playing him. He mashes tech a lot and sometimes mashes just to give the appearance he’s reversal srking when in reality, he’s not. Biggest problem people have against him is just letting him walk over you when you should be attacking him.
In terms of getting better at the higher level, yes most of the things talked about are important but the thing most honda’s lack is spacing and footsies. They don’t know how to play footsies at all and stand in stupid ranges that lead to frame disadvantages, jump-ins, unnecessary throw situations and unadvantageous 50/50’s. They also can’t block.
I also heavily agree with the fact that you really need to stay neutral with honda to play him correctly. If you’re always on down back, you’re giving away space or failing to take it over and this throws away games. HB is an okay anti-air but people treat it like honda doesn’t have s.fp, jump-back rh, nj.fp and focus attack. Use everything.
If you wanna know if a honda has good spacing, put him against a balrog player who doesn’t suck. You’re either up in the rog’s face or outside of jab dash punch range cause that’s where you wanna be. Mid-screen is balrog’s territory and the last place you wanna chill.
Next time you think about ways to fix your game, just try to remind yourself to avoid getting in 50/50’s where you have to guess. Abel would be a top tier character if he wasn’t always in a 50/50 situation which is why he’s just a good character, instead of a godly one.
Hmmm i guess ill try to take this stuff into consideration next time when i play

Can somebody confirm that this is Akimo playing?
