I’m kinda new to the whole posting on matchup theory stuff, but I dont wanna walk into evo not knowing something that could have been avoided by a little research, so I’ll probably be posting here a lot more often. Anyway, just wanted to say hi to all the honda players out there that I dont know and probably should by this point lol

I really wish i had more advice than what people have already said. It really does seem in this match that you have to read your opponent much more than any other. If only for the near instant boom recovery. It’s a classic case of land a knockdown, get your teeth in and never let go.
I normally fish for a psychic buttslam for my first knock down, it seems much more effective than going for the jump over boom. Just make sure that its not predictable. I really seem to be bigging up the random buttslam recently, but if you just throw that one out now and then, it can earn you that precious knockdown. As with the dhalsim matchup, these are probably the only 2 matchups i ever throw out a RH buttslam. Space it nicely so it crosses up so you avoid eating focus lv2 > whatever.
Fuck man, i really wish i had some more to say along the lines of “x move will beat x move if timed/spaced correctly” but they have already been mentioned.
Early j.mp is your friend for jumping in, but its the knockdown you want.

oh and i just want to say hi since im going to be posting here mostly now since i decided to drop gen for honda. so i dont really have anyway to record my matches right now but i hope too soon, and im trying to work on piano his hands although i never got them down with gen but i do find it easier to do honda hands rather then gen because i dont have to his lp and mk together.

When he had no idea why you picked U1 (for comfort wtf), or why Honda’s whiff oichio, kept talking about secret oichio set ups, and ex.hb invincible frames I knew he had no idea what he was talking about.
Vs. Sim. I use that auto-correct U1 the catch teleports but I always assumed when it worked it was because online Sim’s were doing something wrong because I never saw it mentioned in the match-up thread. Seeing you land it in a tournament (Nick"since you don’t use Honda in tournaments like Mike") was pretty sweet.
that mirror match was actually one of the more entertaining ones i’ve seen. nice to see some real top level honda play from both u guys. the sim matchup really is a pain in the ass. it’s like u can’t do anything at all sometimes.
btw, that nick guy truly is the worst commentator i’ve ever heard bar none. either have someone who knows his shit-s.kill, james chen, seb, etc or don’t have anyone at all. instead they get someone who didn’t even now that whiffed oichios build meter lol. its bad enough not knowing basic shit like that but he frequently said stuff that was just outright wrong.

Mike Ross literally has to be one of the best (if not the best) Honda in the US. He has played Honda to death offline/online/tournies so I am not surprised he would pull off combos we have never seen before.

There are no new combos for Honda. Cl.hk > .clp link is very old. It is just hard to do because of the spacing, frame wise it an easy link (3 frames) but the push back makes it one of Honda hardest links. Much harder than cl.hp > c.lp (2 frames), cl.mp > c.mk/s.hk (1 frame). For some reason that link seems easier for me in the flow of a match when I get a cl.hk but I wanted a s.hk, I can just throw a c.lp out and it links but in training I’m never consistent with it.

Liking the cl. st.rh > cr.jab xx HHS link from Mike. I like to use cl. st.rh after i know ive mistimed my crossup on larger hitbox characters like Sagat or T Hawk. Its just a clever frame trap but people get hit by it. When they do, as Telepathic said its quite easy apart from the pushback to link cr.jab.
Sim match against Fillipino Champ was awesome. Nice st.fp to hit limbs. I saw some cr.fp too for the same reason. I need to work cr.fp into my game, i hardly ever use it and it has great dmg and stun. Especially on counter hit.
Just unlucky in the end, tough match for the big man.
