Honda’s down mp does not cross up??? His j.mk DOES cross up, and you don’t need to press down to make it come out (this isn’t SF2 lol).
Punish the opponent? I can’t think of a better way than c.lp–> HHS (mass damage) or O.Throw (opponent downed and you in the perfect place next to him). If you have charge, c.lp into headbutt or ex.buttslam can work but you need charge so it’s not great.
As for Mr. SNK’s geographic honda def’n, I will always be an american honda lol.
why would you EVER do j.RH when jumping over tiger shots? Do j.HP (not New Jersey) you will be surprised but E Honda’s finger tips will clip Sagat a LOT of the times from distances you never thought possible.
This past weekend I entered my first SF4 tournament. I’ve been playing since the games release, and I’ve entered multiple T5 and DR tournaments but have never been a 2D player. However, SF4 is going to be a huge game for awhile so I’m trying to get better at it.
The only video up from the tournament of my honda is me (j honda) versus a Seth player:

That was in losers bracket. I believe 52 people entered, I ended up getting 7th which was OK.
I’ll put up more vids as they are posted up. Any help for this match up is welcome. I made some mistakes, but I caught some breaks.
you played pretty solid really. not much to say.
seth is a really tough match up.
first round you had the lead and around 20 seconds left but you were still chasing him. probably better just to turtle and try to run the clock.
at one point you blocked his spin kick and i think just punished with head butt (i think it was head butt)
spin kick is like -24 or something on block so you can punish with everything from walk up cr.mk xx hands combo to even ultra.
you probably should learn some better jump in combos and how to hit confirm them. one full jump in combo on seth takes half his life and can win you the round.
you missed a couple of good opportunities for a lot of damage on these.
you were doing jump in fierce immediately to fp hands.
this is generally a bad thing to do vs better players since there’s a decent enough gap between those two moves that it is really easy to reversal.
the fact that you’re mashing fp in the air to make it come out is a loud audio give away that you are doing it as well.
you should really learn correct hhs combos like cr.lp xx hhs and cr.mk xx hhs to do instead. if you can’t do those, doing cr.mk xx fp headbutt is good too (just make sure you are hit confirming before the headbutt since they can punish you if they block fp headbutt)
finally i’m not sure on this, but if seth has advantage (like after a knockdown or you just blocked a sonic boom) and he is pretty close to you and doing nj.fp… i’m not sure there’s anything honda can do about it other than block it and maybe focus attack it. at that range and angle, it’s really hard to reversal since it hits the back of your body and it’s out too early to stick anything else out. i think you got dizzied trying to beat this move. i wonder if ultra works here? (i use ultras if they are being obvious with their j.fp and especially jump back fierce punch)
overall good shit. you seem to have very solid fundamentals and you’ll probably be beastly if you stick with honda.
hopefully someone else has more experience with seth and can give some better tips on this match up.
In all honesty that Seth didn’t have a clue on what he was doing.
Any good seth will keep you out all day. You did an execellnt job punishing the teleport but I noticed you’re lacking HHS.
Also try and be proactive with his Sonic-booms.
Great bit on jumping into the projectile to avoid the Ultra  I do that shit all of the time.
Stop doing headbutt from Downtown, Seth can get a free hit and also potentially get a dizzy.
Try Standing :hp: for trades it does 175 on a counter hit and well really knock seth’s health out of the water. Hrm… More punishing bnb’s… And after a knock down try forcing out a teleport or dragon punch and punish. You had most of the hard stuff down and I see a promising future for you. Once you learn to hhs!
I agree with all of it. After I lost, I thought about how much I wish I had learned to cr.lp xx HHS and cr.mk xx HHS. I had them working prior to the tournament (80% of the time) but I got bad nerves during my first few matches was pulling out EX HHS and burning a bar so I bagged them for the day. Hitting practice mode to make sure those combos are 100% is my biggest goal.
I learned the hard way that if Seth is close to you, EX HB get’s stuffed by his j.fp… I was pretty stubborn about trying to get it to work.
Thanks for another set of eyes to tell me what I need work on.
well well jewelman_ was owned in part 1 until that last round he really turned on the afterburners!
TOMLE why don’t you use the knee when honda jumps over fireballs? You’re letting him in 2 easy.
Jewelman_ i think you played it pretty well dhalsim is a bitch that’s the bottom line. Until you get him cornered and pressure it’s cat and mouse w/ a mouse on steroids.
