HNL 808 GGXX: Accent Core

D-pad: I think we need at least two lag-free t.v. – I have a strong feeling some people are gonna be against having to play on one of the two big t.v. when the lag-free one is being used. I’m not too thrilled about it myself either. Besides, I don’t think we have any tournaments scheduled for this week so the t.v. you bring in is gonna be used for casual anyway.

I’m still willing to pitch in for some cheap ass lag-less t.v. (a 10 inch. screen is fine). Maybe Zones can put that t.v. in some corner/storage when it’s not being used by us. What do you think Beau? If the players agree to pitch in for a new t.v. will the owner be fine with this?

the issue with getting two lag-free tvs is space. one of the tvs would go between the two big screen ones, but where would the other one go? it would become pretty cramped since the two couches and the coffee table take up quite a bit of ground space. it was already crowded last time with no extra tvs, and zones can get pretty full on friday and saturday nights by just the people who go there to use the computers. of course, if less people show up this time (which i hope doesn’t happen) then it wouldn’t become an issue

i’ll chip in for another tv though if having four tvs doesn’t turn out to be a hassle. does anyone know where to find some cheap tvs? like…i’m guessing $10 from everybody would be sufficient enough to buy one somewhere

If your looking for cheap tvs your best option is walmart. You can probably get a good sized APEX for around $150-200 ish range.

What I would suggest is running a component cable and testing that first before you buy your tv. Those 2 big screens at the zones display only at 480i/p. Nothing higher then that. The plasmas we have if I remember correctly when setting them up only display at 720.

Long ago Chris V aka lllllllllllll, Barcodious wanted to run a Tekken 5 tourney at zones. We did some tests and were able to confirm that once we switched to component we didnt run into issues of lag. In fact they used to run weekly get togethers hosted by Nate or Dain from the Tekken crew with about 10 others playing A3, Mark of the Wolves, KOF, etc, etc. None of those games when I was there had issues.

Nismor, Toby etc have all played MVC2 there also and I have play countless games of CVS2 with Nestor, Ernest, Sean, Kal, etc. We never had an issue with lag.

Now I think your problem might be that the tv is running via standard AV cables (red, white, yellow). GGXX I think is one of the few games on ps2 that can display at 480p, similar to SF3, and a few other fighting games. You might want to stop by Zones during the week and test the same PS2 with component cables instead. It don’t hurt to test this option out and its a lot cheaper then rushing to buy a television.

I think I left a set of components on the playstation 3 when I installed it at the zones. You could try using those if there still connected to the ps3.

Now if you are already using component cables then it could be the game is displaying at 480i and the tv is forcing it into 480p which could be causing the lag.

If you want another solution what I do for my television at home is use a Hori Upscan convertor. It allows me to play my NES, SNES, etc on my hd tv without dealing with lag issues from the upscan/converting.

thanks for the suggestion, i’ll try that out soon then

Is list of some basic tube televisions under the $200 mark and some in the $150 range.

I can double check with Perfecto on of the co owners of the zones where our spare tube television is. Long ago we had 5 plasma’s and 2 HD TVs and 1 small 21inch tube television. The tube television was used mostly for gun games like point blank etc seeing the plasmas dont handle those games well. If its still available I dont see an issue with Perfecto not letting it be installed again.

Alright, I’ve done my research. CVS2, MVC2, and 3s ALL run on 480i native. 480p deinterlacing is causing the lag. The reason 3s appears to have more noticeable lag than others is because it runs on a higher framerate.

Another reason there might be lag at the TV’s at Zones is that they’re projection TVs.

Connecting to PS3 wouldn’t make a difference with component out. In fact, the HDMI out has a 2-3 frame lag with just the deinterlacing before it reaches the monitor. (This is a known problem and Sony knows about it.)

Not all players will notice lag. More technical players will. If you need me to prove it, I will.

despite the tv-lag issues that we’re having right now, i’m still bringing the smaller tv that hopefully doesn’t have any lag to zones on saturday night.

…but with all this talk of lag, i’m getting a little nervous. is it the size of the tv that determines lag, or can smaller tvs still have lag? my tv is like 22 inches or so. i don’t want to bring the tv and still have the same problems as before.

Here is a really good faq about the lag, solutions, causes, tv types etc, etc.

http://www.fubarduck.com/hdtv-lag-faq/

Alrighty, as far as the tv thing goes, I have not been able to find any spare old tv’s around and I’m pretty sure that there would be no problems with buying and bringing in your own. I’m down to pitch in for a set of new tv’s that will not lag as it will provide better gameplay not only for GG but for other fighting games as well. This will hopefully lead to more competitive gameplay for all games and provide a little variation in terms of playing. The storage of the tv’s will sorta be a problem though as zone’s does not have any storage whatsoever, merely a small closet which is the only place that spare drinks and utensils are stored. I can, however, try and transport the spare television down for game sessions when possible. I am really impressed at all the support this thread is getting and thank you very much psx and leviathan for all of your time in trying to fix our lag problems.

The games frame-rate has no “direct” bearing on the lag. The TV is getting the same output signal no matter what the games internal frame rate is.

It can be LCD, CRT etc, if the native display is higher on the tv then on the console then yes there will be depending on how good or poor the tv is at scaling.

I didn’t mean to connect to a ps3 with GGXX. I am refering to taking the component cable that might still be connected to the ps3 and plug it into the ps2 isntead.

My suggestion is first switching the cable to component so you have 480p capability. Composite cables only can display up to 480i not 480p. Then go into the ps2 menu and change the display to Y Pb Br

Second Guilty Gear XX, up to slash all have 480p support. I?m going to assume AC has it also. Most of the time the 480p support isn?t an in game option on the ps2 like Tekken 5. It has to be enabled via holding triangle and X on your PS2 controller after the boot screen. So I would enable this upon boot.

Using those above steps would be a good way to trouble shoot the elimination of lag without having to spend more money on a TV.

Fubarduck had posted about using Guitar Hero for checking for lag as it has a built in tool. You could even go as far as that route to double check to see the differences between each solution and go with the better route.

Well then someone’s gonna have to go down to check and see if things can be fixed. If the issue can be worked out on those t.v., then great. But if there’s 100% confirmation that nothing can be done … then the next option is to get separate t.v. sets.

Yeah, I checked Walmart earlier and it looks like we’ll be spending around $100 - 150 if we want a new t.v. – kinda sucks but you know how it goes; and it can be done. (As to where we’ll put the t.v. – I don’t know – maybe we can set it on top the coffee table or get one of those small poker tables or something.)

Thanks to those who provided info./links, suggestions, etc.

Sorry guys, I don’t think I can make it to this weekend’s gathering due to work and stuff. I’ll try to make it to the next one though.

Edit: count me in to chip in for some T.V.'s.

I’ll give my donation to D-pad or JD Scrub.

Aww shit Shin too bad you can’t make it. I guess I have to just beat up on other Sols then!! LOL catch ya next time!

Just picked up AC a few days ago…
Think i’ll use Baiken? lol
Hope i can make it down to a meeting at Zones, or something…

akureikaze: glad to have another gg player on oahu! next session at zones is next saturday night at 8:00pm. check the previous page for more details, it’s the post colored in orange. there’s a guy named tim who plays that uses baiken well. you’ll probably see him if you come down saturday.

hope everybody is practicing up! i want to play some good games this weekend

Given the situation, I’m just curious as to who’s sure they’ll be coming this Saturday or at least strongly interested.

And related to that, what’s the situation with the t.v.? Is anyone gonna be checking up to see if the issue can be fixed on those t.v. before Saturday? Am I the only one concerned about this or is everyone fine with waiting in line to play on the one t.v. D-pad is willing to bring down (thanks man).

If everyone is fine or at least like 95% of the people, then I guess that’s that. I just want some feedback since there’s not much of it going on.

i switched the ps3 cables with the ps2 cables but it seemed the same to me. actually, i’m probably the wrong person to be checking this out since i couldn’t tell the tvs were lagging in the first place.

Hrm. When does the meet at The Zone end?
I need to uh. Arrange to get picked up from there, lol.

regardless of how many people show up, the session will run until 12:00am. if everyone is gone by then, the session will end, but if people still want to play beyond that time (i hope so!) it will remain open until everyone leaves.

Few things to check

  1. Make sure its a component cable. Its a 5 connectors cable.
    Video=Red Green Blue
    Audio= Red Yellow

  2. Plug it into your ps2 and output to the tv.

  3. Go into the ps2 menu and make sure video is seet to Y,etc, etc not RGB.

  4. Boot game some games require you to hold X and Triangle on bootup to enable 480p. ( Also some games allow this in the games option menu undervideo).

  5. Test away.
