Hitting one-framers with consistency

I’ve been having trouble with a Cammy combo, cr.lp, cl.hp, cr.mk xx HK.Spiral Arrow, particularly the “cl.hp, cr.mk” segment which I believe is a one-frame link. I can hit the combo around 3-5 times in a row here and there, but I drop the aforementioned link quite a bit. I’ve been practicing this combo/link for around 2 days now, around 2+ hours overall, and I haven’t hit my goal of 10x in a row on either side once.

Being a Dualshock 3 player, should I expect to ever be able to hit one-frame links without ever really dropping them or should I expect it to be a little “unintuitive” and accept that I wont be able to get it damn near every single time as I hope and am obsessing over? (Though I talk about Cammy, I really mean this question in a general sense to one-frame links in general)

I assume you’re already using plinking… (Google the technique if you aren’t familiar)

Learn the rhythm of the button presses. Eventually it will just get stuck in your muscle memory. Like learning the to tap to the beat of a song or something like that.

You won’t get it 100%, but that’s what you should aim for. Top players hit 1f links like 95% of the time.

Chris G, SnakeEyez, Alioune and Louffy all don’t plink and except for Chris G all of them play on pad.
Those guys are all world class players including an EVO champion and they hit tight links fairly consistently.

Basically yeah, with enough practice you can consistently pull off 1-framers.

Antwan The’Alucard Ortiz “Definitely necessary… 1 person not doing it doesn’t make it unnecessary. Makes every combo 10x easier. They’re certain characters that don’t require it like Zangief and Hugo but combo heavy characters, like Evil Ryu and Oni, you’d be a fool not to.”

Chris G doesnt play on pad. He doesnt plink because missing a combo with Sakura is wathever.
I cannot afford to not plink with my characters, so of course I do plink, double plink, and select plink.
Louffy doesnt because Rose. Maybe he does by now
Dont know about Snakeyez.
Plinking is necessary in this game.

Sorry for spreading misinformation then, I just saw a game of Louffy with input display on and didn’t see him plink, so I just assumed that was true for all pad players.

I just wonder how the hell do you plink on a pad?

When I play on pad (usually I play stick but I used to play pad and sometimes still do for whatever reasons), I basically use my thumb to hit mp+lp/mk+lk together 1 frame apart so I kinda roll my thumb over both buttons (I use an xbox 360 pad with default layout), for hp/hk plinks I press the shoulder button (hp/hk are both on the right shoulder buttons) and lp (X on the xbox face buttons) together. Also for crouching heavy plinks i’ll press hp/hk + lp + lk together for an extra chance to get the plink (I think this is double plinking? not sure). Anyway my plink success on pad is or was about 70% and it’s probably 80%+ on stick.

I can’t do stuff like mk/mp.kara throws or crouch techs though with much consistency on pad as I only use my thumb for lights/mediums.

learn to plink its important

I can’t imagine playing a game that requires me to hit 10 buttons at once just to do a simple day 1 combo.

But yeah, plink. 1f links become 2f links when you plink.
