Iām having an issue with the hitbox on PC. I tested this on my ps3 and didnāt have any issues.
My movement buttons are āstickingā and repeating movements. Like, for example, I will be doing something and I will release a button but they will continue to crouch, or jump forward over and over for a few seconds.
Each time this happens, it either stops after a few seconds and goes back to normal, or the hitbox disconnects and Windows tells me it is not a recognized device. Its like the input just drops out.
When I plug the stick back in, it will be recognized again. This only started happening today.
When I plug the hitbox in, I do not hold any buttons down.
I tested on different USB ports and it happens on them all.
Other devices work fine on these ports.
I am on Windows 7.
I tested on SF4 and KoF on PC and it acts the same in both.
I can probably get an xbox360 to test on too if need be.
Doesnāt work, same problems still occur. EDIT: I think I can probably test using 360 mode some more tomorrow when i have time
My computer performed an update the night before this started to occur, i did a system restore but it still doesnāt work.
When plugged in it is recognized as a PS360+ v1.2 device by windows
I donāt understand why it would suddenly stop working correctly after 20 days of working fine.
I see there is a 1.31 version of ps360+ firmware available, but also have heard the hitbox uses custom firmware, so I want to avoid updating this unless someone can explain that itās ok to do so.
Itās frustrating because I was just starting to get a better hang on using the controller and was planning on stepping up how much time I put into KoF, and then this happens.
While trying to update the firmware I experienced two different errors that to me, indicate communication failures in the stick.
The errors are:
When going from āSettings>communication>USBā and hitting āopenā, FLIP hangs and cannot be closed. Once after waiting a minute or two, it ended up completing the āopenā communication operation but subsequently after loading the hex and pressing ārunā FLIP told me with a popup error that it ācould not write to USB deviceā. At the bottom of the program window in red test it says āCould not read from USB deviceā. It has failed during both the āBlank Checkā and āProgramā steps at different occasions.
Unfortunately, now the hitbox is no longer recognized at all when I plug it into my PC, unless I again boot it into firmware update mode. I checked autodetect, force PS/PC and force XBOX360 modes. No sound is played like when you typically plug a USB device in, and it is not visible in Device Manager or the Devices and printers view.
I also checked on PS3, and it is not recognized there. The first time FLIP failed it got to āProgramā step and failed, all subsequent attempts failed on āBlank Checkā. So Iām guessing it has no firmware.
Where should I go from here? This seems to warrant a look from a technician at this point. Its pretty obviously a communication issue within the controller itself.
Team Hitbox is a name Iāve heard bandied about on some tourney streams. Hitbox|Tyrant and Hitbox|Kane are Injustice and MK players. Hitbox| Trophyclub is a KOF player. Hitbox|Dustin and HB|Buttons play MvC. HB|Godspeed plays KI. HB|Sora plays SC. They havenāt won but have placed at the top several times in regional majors.
The Hitbox is a new concept. It will be awhile till someone is as mature with it as the āborn on arcadeā generation like Daigo and Justin Wong. Also Hitbox has a miniscule market share and is the current sole mass manufacturer of all button controllers. As a result the statistical chance of having a hitbox player at the top are ridiculously low whether or NOT the ABC idea is effective. I mean with the footprint all button controllers have the statistical chance of having a major without a SINGLE hitbox present is quite high. The chance that there will be more pad players than hitbox players is an even higher statistic. Does this mean that the hitbox is crappier than a pad? Do not use tourney results to determine whether or not a hitbox is good/good for you.
So this seems like as good a place to ask this as any (and Iām sure itās been asked before but this thread is 4yrs old and 60 pages long): does anyone have any technique suggestions for getting the motion down for Guileās Super/Ultra?
Has the website been updated recently? Anyone know if theyāre actually available to buy? Howās the quality on them? Just curious is all, I donāt think Iāll be buying one atm since I just ordered a Panzer custom.
I almost feel like these would give an unfair advantage after watching more videos. Is there any benefit to using the joystick over this?
Also, I donāt understand the benefit of holding right and left at the same time.
EDIT: So I just saw this video and holy moly that seems unfair. I donāt understand how these things arenāt banned! So I tried doing that on my keyboard for SF AE 2012 on PC and it doesnt work. If I hold back / forward at the same time I donāt stay still, I move in the last direction I hit. I have n key rollover so I can hold multiple inputs. Any clue how to get my keyboard to function as a hitbox?
I got mine like 3 weeks ago, Iād guess they are available.
Build quality is really nice, havenāt look inside though. Iāve been having frustration with it, but it seems to be caused by the PS360+ PCB inside the controller.
Some things are easier on a hitbox, some much harder. Movement is typically MUCH better on hitbox in my experience, especially in 3d games. Iād say use whichever you find the most fun.
You make your keyboard act like a hitbox by setting the keys to control things in the game. The keyboard doesnāt have SOCD like a hitbox would.
I forgot to mention the best thing, that Hitbox is much much more ergonomic. I couldnāt practice KoF combos for any helpful amount of time on stick without getting hand pain, but on hitbox I can practice for like 2 hours and be pretty much fine.
Thanks. Iāve more or less got this now. I was actually having a bigger issue with Decapre. She has an Ultra where one version is the same motion as Guiles while the other is just back, forward, back, forward (i.e. easy). I realized that it made more sense to go with the shortcut that SFIV allows for this type of motion which is instead of going to up-foward to go with up-back instead. Still easier for some reason (left handedness?) on the player 1 side but itās better than it was a week ago.
I got a USB hub like was suggested to me and it seems to have alleviated all of my connectivity issues somehow. Its an externally powered one, dunno if that is helping it or not.
My execution is getting better, but now I will have to start forcing myself to use a faster method for DP inputs instead of the slower method Iāve been using. I also decided to start trying to re-learn viper tech on the hitbox, all my instant air stuff on characters is super slow right now.
EDIT:
After a few more days my Hitbox hasnāt dropped at all, Thanks for helping me out through email Shawn! I appreciate it.
Hey guys, I got my Hitbox from a friend about a month ago, but it took me about two weeks to install the PS360+ and to actually get around to playing it. Iāve been slowing modding it over the last month though and wanted to show off what Iāve done and what I have planned.
Cable sleeve
[details=Spoiler]So the first thing I did was install the PS360+. That was really easy, but I had a lot of reservations about the cable. It was mainly because I was worried that it might get disconnected during a tournament, or that it would get bent and fray at the point where it exits the casing. So, I messed around with a few ways to deal with this but didnāt like my first two ideas. I ended up taking an old angle grinder that I have and removing the cable. I took the rubber casing that the cable comes out of and cut it in half. I put my Hitbox cable inside it and put it in the square hole on the back of the Hitbox. I put some rubber shrink wrap over it and heated it up so that it would conform to the shape and hide the cut. I then used some strong epoxy to glue it to the inside of the Hitbox. I also put some on the inside of the rubber casing so that if it were to get yanked, it wouldnāt damage the PCB. Iām pretty happy with how this turned out, and itās very sturdy.

Handles
[details=Spoiler]The next thing I did was add handles. I didnāt realize this until just now, but someone else already had this idea and posted it in this thread. Anyway, I wanted a handle that also worked as a cable wrap thing, so I went to Lowes and saw these cabinet handles. I got two of them, originally planning to put one on the side and one on top. However, after I thought about it some more, I decided to have them on opposite sides. This worked out pretty well because it allows me to have a handle and a cable wrap, but it also looks symmetrical this way.
Anyway, it was really easy to do. I took measurements and drilled the holes as centered as I could. I put metal washers on the inside to help distribute the load better. The only thing I wanted to do differently was to possible have a thicker handle, but this was all I could find. Overall, Iām pretty happy with this too. The Hitbox itself is way lighter than normal sticks, and I really like the symmetry of having a handle on each side.

Art
[details=Spoiler]The next thing I want to do is modify the art. Iāve already emailed the Hitbox guys about trying to buy some clear plexiglass, but I also need to buy a set of clear buttons and actually make the art. The idea I have is pretty specific, but still open to changes.
Itās going to be a Portal themed stick. The background will be white, or off white. GLaDOS will be somewhere on the left side of the stick, with various Portal 1 and 2 quotes in different areas. I definitely want to have something about Cave Johnsonās lemon rant, and I want it to say āFor Science. You Monster.ā on it somewhere.
However, I really like my idea for the buttons. Iām getting clear buttons so that I can do this, but each of the 8 main buttons will be the āeyeā of each of the Personality Cores, in order of introduction. Each coreās eye is different, so kind of like this
Here is a picture for reference. If I can afford it, I might use appropriately colored LED lights under each button/eye. Portal Personality Cores
Iām thinking of making the left and right buttons be the Aperture Science logo, one in orange and one in blue. The down button will be a heart, for the Companion Cube. And the up button, being the largest, will be GLaDOSā eye.
[/details]
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or ideas for further modding my Hitbox? Like, practical ideas like the handles, or ideas for the artwork. The Hitbox dimensions are 16x7, but Iāve heard recommendations of getting printed art that is slightly larger. Is there anything I need to know before I get my art printed?
Either way, Iām loving this Hitbox. I wanted to say great work guys. Iāve only been playing with it for a while and I can already tell the difference. I played Marvel on a 360 pad for 3 years now, and now that I have a Hitbox, never again. My Firebrandās instant wall cling fireball game will be unrivaled :]
