Just got my hitbox yesterday. It is really going to take some work to retrain everything my hands have been doing. Luckily I main a charge character in sf4, so it’s a little easier. ekkkk
I will say, I was able to sit down in mvc for my first time in forever using a hitbox and was able to get a lot of my BnB’s to come out quickly.
Quick question. What hole lines up with what for the hitbox layout. I’m trying to cut out a TE replacement panel but I don’t know where to place the layout. Like, does the jump button line up with the X/B button??? Or does the Left button line up with the joystick hole. I’m completely stumped. Thanks for any help.
Got my Hitbox a few days ago, been training with it a lot since, and I have some questions for anyone. I’m coming from pad, with no stick experience whatsoever, so excuse my stupidity. I play only UMvC3 currently, so all of this will relate to that game. I hope it’s okay that I’m asking all this here, really don’t know where else to ask.
The preferred layout, in general, is:
L M H
S A1 A2
I’m just having some issues with this. I don’t know if it’s just unfamiliarity, or me not knowing how to properly maneuver my fingers on this, but it seems really awkward hitting the assist buttons during a combo, especially with Zero. Any tips for this, whether it be a different layout more suitable to holding L, or how best to move my hand? Currently I tend to use my middle finger to hit A1 and my ring to hit A2, which I feel is reasonable, but it still feels weird.
Up, or the jump button. What thumb is used to hit this? I’ll probably get a lot of “whatever is most comfortable” but I want to train myself to be a little more consistent with it in any given situation, so my fingers know what to do quickly. I think what happens now is I hit it with my left thumb when I launch (and maybe in neutral?), and right when I am jumping within a combo (neutral jump LLs, for example). Sometimes I get confused and wind up hitting S with my left thumb, somehow…
More of a general question, but it feels like I’m not exactly learning what the buttons are, universally. For example, if I do a magic series with one character, and get it down to muscle memory…on a pad, I’d be able to do that with perfect consistency with any character (assuming they had a normal magic series :P). On Hitbox, it feels like I’m relearning everything for each character, which I didn’t expect. I’d have to take a moment to think about that magic series with the second character. It’s weird, and I’m sure it’ll pass, but I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this at first.
Left-side DPs. My left ring finger is a little weaker than it should be, from an accident a while back. It’s not a huge deal, I can do everything fine, but quick, consistent DPs in succession are prone to failure. And of course, I’m learning Zero, so I kinda need those. I am sure I can do it eventually if I spend a lot of time practicing that motion, but that could take a really long time. So I went looking for a DP shortcut, and found: 4 > 4+2+6 > 4+2. I like this a lot, but can’t hit it consistently. Today I’m just going to take it slow repeating the motion, getting it down, and speeding up. Are there any other tips for that shortcut, or any other shortcut for DP (doubt it but might as well ask), or tips for normal DPs?
How long did it take, for any Marvel players here, until you were comfortable enough with Hitbox to use it in a match? I feel like I’m making reasonable progress, I’ve had this thing for less than a week and I haven’t ever used anything besides pad, but I still feel like I won’t be ready for another few weeks at least.
Sounds like a lot of issues, but I’m kind of an idiot so yeah, thanks for any help in advance. As for the Hitbox itself, I’m liking it a lot. No issues with the actual controller. I’m definitely going to be sticking with it.
Yeah that’s Type B for ya. I also didn’t play regular stick much. And I too am struggling with calling assists with zero. Especially the Launch + Vergil + Knockdown in air. I’ve seen a lot of layouts used in tournaments tho… So I messed around and changed L1 and L2 to assist 1 and 2. Rather, Assist 2 as L1 suits my needs for both my ZMC team and my Mag+Doom+Phoenix team. This means I have to work on my plink dashing though… As I don’t get the ez schmidt select.
I use left hand for most uses, but right thumb for tiger knees. The timing on tiger knees on hitbox is pretty weird, but if you use your right thumb it slows it down enough for it to come out. If you can freely use both thumbs then that’s the way it’s meant to be done. The hitbox guys suggest the right thumb for moments when you want up come out, rather than for up to cancel down. For example if you’re trying to tiger knee Spencer’s OTG grapple you’ll need to hit 2369 H. But if you’re just doing it casually with your left hand, chances are you’ll get 239 and it won’t count as a tiger knee. You don’t get this problem with lightning loops.
Spend some time in training mode, maybe go do missions for characters you’ve never played. It’ll feel natural.
I’ve got nothing here
Luckily my roommate wanted to get better with his madcatz stick at the same time. So we locked away the pads and dealt with it. I’d say it was like 2 weeks before it felt natural. A month later and I don’t know how I ever played pad. I still struggle with tiger knees with spencer, but that’s because I haven’t bothered practicing it. That’s like my C team anyway.
Does anyone know what size allen screws there are on the bottom of the hitbox? I want to change out some buttons, but none of my allen wrenches seem to be the right size. I also want to put silencers in as well
Thanks for the answers. I’m glad to see the time to adjust to Hitbox was about the same for you as for people who frequently played stick, from what I’ve heard. Winter break is giving me a good deal of extra time to train with this, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine in a few weeks.
I’ve actually been more consistent with tiger knee DPs on both sides, than neutral jump DPs on both sides, which is odd. However, I want to start doing the 2013 LLoop. On pad, it’s extremely difficult, near impossible, so I dealt with regular loops, which I dropped constantly on the left side. I have no trouble with TKing on Hitbox in general, thank you for the tips though.
Np thanks anyway. I’m just gonna be practicing that shortcut until I’ve got it down perfectly. I’m getting a regular L about 30-40% of the time, unfortunately, seems like I hit L too soon when I try to do jump > DP shortcut. Just got it about 10 times in a row though, so that’s progress. Gotta get the motion in my muscle memory.
I finally got to get a few SSF4 online matches in for the first time with the hitbox. This is going to take some getting used to. In training, I am hitting everything I need to without any issues…In a match, I go full retard and completely screw my blocking up. How long did it take for most people here to have it “click”?
How long did it take you to not go full retard when using pad/stick (whatever you used before the hitbox) because it’ll probably be slightly less this time
When doing the jump>DP make sure your finger is coming completely off back before you hit the button. The lifting your finger off will delay the input enough to be high enough to do it and will make sure that you aren’t getting just a down when you hit L.
I just got one of these, and I can’t for the life of me get it to work on my PC (Windows 7)
I have 2 USB ports on my laptop, one is 3.0 and one is 2.0. If I plug it into the 2.0 port, it registers as a “PS360+ v1.2” controller, and says “this device is working properly”, but will not do anything at all. SF4AE (Steam) wont recognize that it’s there, and nothing else will take its inputs either. If I plug it into the 3.0 port, it will make the sound like a device is plugged in and then immediately taken out over and over and over again, like it can’t decide if it wants to recognize it or not. However, during this time it will register as “Xbox Controller”, and SF4AE will take its inputs if I can manage to get a lucky button press in before it changes its mind.
I can’t understand this. It works perfectly fine in the 3.0 slot, but keeps popping in and out and never stops. If it says its there, it will work perfectly for .5 seconds and then unplug, only to plug back in .5 seconds later. If it’s in the 2.0 slot it will show up as working but not do anything.
Any insight? I’d like to be able to try this thing out. I don’t have my Xbox or PS3 handy, but I’d imagine that they would work fine, since the controller is showing up. No, my USBs aren’t broken; they work fine. And I should probably mention that I don’t think it was showing up at all until I read somewhere else that you should hold one of the (completely unmarked, btw) buttons while plugging it in. This might have also been a mistake though, because I’ve also seen that it throws it into an update thing that might be the reason why it keeps popping in and out.
(P.S. I kinda wish my hitbox had come with any sort of instructions at all. Even like a sheet of paper that says “Plug it in and you’re good to go” would be fine. Instead, I got 2 business cards from the Huffer (brothers?), a larger business card type thing that shows how to do a hadoken/shoryuken, and nothing else. How was I supposed to know that the hold a button thing even existed?)
I just tested it out on Xbox360 and PS3 and it works, I’m just having a problem getting it to work on PC. I tried 1P, 2P, Select/Start, and pretty much everything else mentioned in the link you provided to no avail. It still says it’s a “PS360+ v1.2” while connected to a 2.0 slot, and repeatedly plugs in and out as an “Xbox 360 controller for windows” if put in a 3.0 slot. It’d be totally fine if it would just stay plugged in while it’s in the 3.0, but it wont. When plugged into the 2.0, if I go to game controller settings all of the buttons and direction inputs work, but no program will read it. Even though it keeps bugging out, I’m 99% sure my 3.0 slot is working; it reads anything else I plug into it (be it a mouse, external HD, USB drive, or even my PS3/Xbox360 controllers, which work perfectly in that slot).
It also wont let me update the PS360+ firmware. I followed the pdf you provided (which Hitbox really should have done, at least a link) and since nothing else worked I figured I’d try to update the firmware. I can’t. I tried linking the /usb path manually, and I tried downloading FLIP and doing it that way; neither one worked. FLIP gives me a “cannot access USB” error when I try to tell it to look for my USB device so I can load te hex, and if I try linking the driver manually it says that the “HID-compliant game controller” is already updated.
This is a real bummer since I don’t even own SF on console anymore. I’m currently downloading SF on my desktop to see if it will behave any differently, but I’m not expecting it to. Plugging it in, it already tells me it’s a “PS360+ v1.2” that is working, but no programs will take the inputs.
Am I supposed to use some 3rd party software to get it to work? Imo I shouldn’t need to, but that’s about the only thing I can think of at this point. MotioninJoy, the 3rd party program I already have, doesn’t recognize it.
(Edit: I should probably mention that when different buttons are held down, it sometimes comes up as “USB input device” or something like that, or “Unidentified”. Either way, I still couldn’t update the firmware or link the driver, and SF still didn’t take the inputs)
The reality is with PCs, no matter how much you test, there always be a hardware combination that are incompatible.
Many newer Hori Xbox 360 sticks don’t work in Win 7 and Win 8. Only a few PCBs work with CVS2 and other PS2 titles on the PS3 ( both the PS2 Disk and PS2 Port for download)
So I would not be surprised if there a PC that not play nice with a PS360+
Yup, pretty much this. Installed SF on my desktop and the Hitbox works fine. I have to hold MP down when I plug it in, but it works perfectly with no need to do anything else. I guess it just isn’t going to work on my laptop Weird though, because it works fine in 3.0, it just doesn’t ever work for more than a split second at a time. I still wish Hitbox had packaged something with it like “Hold MP down when plugging into PC” so that I would have “first hand” knowledge on what to do. I found this thread easily enough though, so I guess it’s all good
I feel better about it now though; at least it works on one of my computers. I’ve got some getting used to to go through
(Edit: My laptop is ASUS with model number X54L, just in case that is helpful to anyone)
Yeah, and I’ll do that at some point (maybe), but it works on one of my machines so I’m good with that for now. I just wanna put in some work and have it not be awkward to play on anymore
That said, (and sorry for a million posts all at once) which game is best to learn hitbox with? I only play street fighter, but if I decide I want to learn another game I don’t want to have bad input because of the leniency in SF. I think I’m only minimally lazy on stick, but with all the shortcuts hitbox can do I just know I’m going to learn some things that only work in SF so that when I try another game the moves wont come out. Or is this not really a problem? Not interested in 3d fighters, btw
Finally came in. The postman left it at the wrong address… Typical, but, whatever.
Anyway- considering sliding/slide inputs (like slides for half-circles/360s/720s) - how is it supposed to feel? How much force are you supposed to be using? Do you press deeply into the buttons?
I find a couple of things happening (with a HCB input):
6 and 4 show up, but not 2.
The skin on my finger gets “stuck” to the button and slows me down. This is weird because it’s not totally consistent from between instances and from finger to finger- sometimes the slide will just come out, other times I’ll get stuck.
Sliding on 2P side using the left ring finger is awkward, I don’t seem to have much power/leverage in it as compared to the index.
2x HCB index/ring slide seems even more unwieldy as the above issues pop up. 5/10 on 1P, 0/10 on 2P.
It seems that just typing out 624624 is faster/more consistent, especially since I have to “set up” for the slide- feels like I’d hate doing this in the heat of the moment. (The video makes me pretty jealous.)
Back when I was first playing stick, I used to use cotton gloves to help with slide inputs (which led to a few people calling me “Michael Jackson” at a tournament…)
I know people do it with their bare hands all the time, though… What’s the deal?
Supposedly 3rd Strike is stricter?
Because of the nature of the Hitbox, having to re-learn muscle memory for specific commands, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. You switch games, you just have to spend time in training, it’s normal.
