I’ve just finished watching the third episode of The History channel’s new drama “Vikings”, which tells the story of Viking hero Ragnar Lodbrok, and I have to say I am EXTREMELY impressed with the quality of this show so far. Sure, it may lack the extreme gore and sex that an HBO series would have but is still violent enough and the production values and acting are pretty solid so far. Seems History has actually made use of all the profit from making cheap reality fare like Pawn Stars and put it toward some great historical drama (The Bible, another new History Channel miniseries also impressed me with its production values and casting). Also the title theme, Fever Ray’s “If I Had A Heart”, is great.
And no that isnt Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy but damn it looks EXACTLY like him.
I thought the first episode was ok. Dudes brother is pretty shitty for hitting on his brothers wife. I’ll give it a couple more episodes to keep my interest.
as a metal fan I am naturally attracted to a show about vikings, but history channels track record gives me pause (as well as an endorsement from the guy who started a Girls thread here).
and they really have a showed called “The Bible” ?? jesus
What I want to know is how do you go from informing people about historical facts to making up theories about how aliens brought us here and finally to mindless entertainment.
Its not mindless, its a dramatization of real history.
SWORDS AND SHIT
And whats wrong with a series based on the Bible? Plenty of entertaining material in the Bible. Just because you may not believe its true doesnt make it any less of a good production
doesnt really have to do with its validity. moreso that its more than likely pandering schlock. as I read the wiki page, I see it unsuprisingly tells the few feel good old testament stories everyone already knows and some standard jesus stories. give me an episode about raining hellfire on sodom and gomorrah and i might be interested.
It’s decent. I like the fact that they didn’t go the Spartacus route and made the lead guy uncharacteristically noble and caring (even though he saved the monk). These are Vikings after all, the same dudes that routinely slaughtered defenseless children for sword practice.
