High Tick Count in Kaillera Online

I have lag troubles online. I don’t think I should be, given my setup and connection, and suspect something is wrong with my computer, but I couldn’t identify it.

My comp is 3ghz P4
1gig ram
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (don’t know if it matters…)
Cable Modem; according to speedtest.net I connect to their NY server at 26707kb/s with a ping of 40, however, on Kaillera, I never have a ping above 25.

Nevertheless, I usually get around 7 - 17 ticks online using the /lagstat command. When I do this command online, it is always me that is lagging. This happens regardless of client - supra, kaillera, p2p (using client mode) and p2p isn’t that great for me either.

I switched ISPs a while back after moving to a different state and the results are the same - very fast connection, low ping, but a fairly high amount of lag anyway. So I doubt it’s my ISPs either. Happens when I am behind a router and when I am not, too. My hunch is that it might be my settings somewhere.

I was wondering what might be done to reduce “ticks” - whatever these are(?) - for online play. Given the speed of my connection and my low ping, this shouldn’t be happening with people of similar connections. And at the very least, someone else should be lagging once in a while - but it’s always me it seems.

Any help is appreciated. If someone could tell me what these “ticks” are (I couldn’t find it on the Kaillera website) I could try to identify the problem myself, but I am at a loss of where to begin. It’s a really big problem for my online 3s play.

Even if you can’t provide any help, if you know what Kaillera “ticks” are and can provide a little info, I can probably do the research myself.

you using wireless?

No, not using wireless.

Is the connection being shared with different users via a router?

I’m having similar issues

2 months ago, playing on Kaillera and P2P was great my ping and download speed was good, never over 16ms

Now, my ping is so random with lag spikes, jumping from 30ms to 80ms to 180ms+.
My download and upload speeds have still been crazy good though.
I’m not on wireless, straight from the cable modem. My computer is pretty good, 1.5ghz with 2 gigs of RAM.

I talked to my ISP and they said anything below 180ms ping is normal for them.

Here’s where it gets wierd:
P2P has been bad and slow for me the past few weeks, but on Kaillera, it’s been quite good. I can play on Kaillera pretty well, about the same level as before (P2P is still bad though)
But last night, I couldn’t get a decent Kaillera connection with anyone, it’s like it’s screwed up. I can play 1player on Kaillera, and I know it’s online b/c of the online lag, but I can’t seem to connect to anyone else.

Any ideas? Thanks.

No, but just to be clear - This problem has occured behind a router and not behind a router, and when it was behind a router, other people were hooked up and sometimes they weren’t (laptops), so I don’t think it has anything to do with my router or wireless. The large amount of ticks continue whether or not I am behind a router.

I haven’t found the word tick anywhere in official kaillera but lagstat is an UOKS command? It could mean the system clock tick as returned by GetTickCount -->http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724408.aspx <-- or more precisely the difference of tick counts. If thats what it is, its something similar to ping and 1 tick should be equal to 1 ms.

Anyways, spikes in kaillera depend on the stability of your connection. As network condition changes, your latency can change for better(no change) or worse(spikes). From the looks of things, it does seem like something of your end (your pc or your isp).

I’ve found that MAME v.119 is much better for P2P than .117. .117 at this point seems to be no better than Kaillera for P2P. I played some games against the same person in both .117 and .119 and noticed there was a bit less delay and could do kara throws and confirm supers more consistantly.

That’s an interesting find 0746. I am not sure what UOKS means - could you clarify? A quick google search yielded spanish websites.

And I wish people used the updated clients as well, but it seems inertia is impossible to stop here. :frowning:

I wasn’t able to find anything about it at the kaillera website either. I wonder how people even learned about this command since it doesn’t seem very supported (perhaps not at all).
