What’s up.
MoRpHaZe is my name and until this point MORTAL KOMBAT was totally my game.
I’ve done a few tournaments for “Mortal Kombat” though nothing ‘official’ like this game has. Anyways, MK vs DC was seriously the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. Mortal Kombat has always had a lot of issues, not just with the game but also with the actual community. I’ve been following the “MK Kommunity” since I was in the 8th grade (I’m 24 years old now). I’ve seen it get from bad to worse with the kind of people that are in charge or running things, or the kind of people who are just highly involved to begin with. But after this game, MK vs DC, things just have gotten insanely bad. MK vs DC (as I’m sure most of you know) has TONS of infinites, glitches, etc. And the people are online are just as horrible (if not worse than the gameplay issues). I know smack-talk is all a part of the game, right? OF COURSE! At the same time, there’s a limit.
Let me tell you my story… (Long read folks, don’t say I didn’t warn ya!)
I joined a “clan”, called “BD” for MK vs DC (before the glitches and infinites in the game were found). Now everyone hated these guys, I just thought it was probably because they were good and everyone else was just part of the irrational, terrible community. Finally, one day, after having about 100 people follow me from room to room insisting that our leader “BD_SCORP” was using infinites to win with Superman, I decided I’d figure it all out for myself. I’ve been a legitimate MK player since the first game, gone to tournaments (mainly for MK 2) and so forth. So being part of a team that does infinites, well that just does not thrill me per-say. I made a new PSN account, one BD clan didn’t know, and I played BD_SCORP and BD_SIC. BOTH of them used infinites. I beat BD_SIC and he PULLED (disconnected) during his last ounce of health.
I changed back to my BD clan name, confronted Scorp & Sic and said I was quitting BD. They were furious, made up a lie saying they kicked me out (whatever, I could care less) and talked endless smack to me.
After about a week of this, and everyone else who hated BD (and now had an easy way to pick on me) realized they could not phase me, things got a little more personal. BD_SIC, who was still on my myspace friends list, figured out where I worked at (on my myspace page, I talk about how I am a DJ at the local radio station etc). Well on my top friends is the radio station’s myspace page. BD_SIC looked up my station call letters, found out our website, then finds out the address to the station AND the phone number as well as the time I’m on the air.
BD_SIC then spreads all this information to everyone else on the game.
What happens?
I throw a contest, on the air. I can’t seem to give away two tickets to a concert because everyone who has been calling in during my whole 5 hour shift is someone from MK vs DC yelling, cussing, and screaming death threats at me.
Whatever. Right?
I even got a few calls from BD_SIC himself. (at least, I’m 90% sure it was him).
So I deal with this harassment, I don’t tell my bosses, I mean, really, why? Why should I make myself look like an idiot by saying “Hey boss I’m being picked on by these geeks on the interwebs.” So I go on forward, not saying a thing to anyone about anything.
So then a few weeks go by, the smack talk between me and BD_SIC (in particular) get worse.
Then I get an e-mail.
From who?
The FBI.
No, I’m not kidding.
BD_SIC filed a report with IC3 and said I was ‘internet stalking’ him for posting a video on youtube of him pulling with two halarious pictures I stole off his myspace page.
He filed the complaint, I lost my job, and to this day I’m still being investigated (though I doubt anything worse can come of this).
Justice served? Not at all.
Was that my final straw in the MK community? You betcha.
They did about 10 million hit pieces about me here in the local papers calling me an ‘unstable stalker’ etc etc.
So basically, if I want to get into radio elsewhere, I’ll have to move out of state, and I can’t use my old job of 4 years on my resume.
All because of one dolt in the community who thought Mortal Kombat was real life.
(For the record, he has “BD SIC” tattooed on his hands.)
I’m looking for a new hobby, a new crowd, of people who can help me get better at street fighter while having a good time. Granted, I have played street fighter before (Fei Long & DeeJay are my faves) but I’m definately not good.
I just wanted to share my story with all of you so that I could get it off of my chest.
I’m just kinda PO’d the community done this to me, especially after all the things I’ve done for them.
I scored a copy of MK vs DC 4 days before it came out.
I did a LIVE video stream of the game footage.
MK5.org banned me (total BS) for posting the stream AND their moderator was completely rude to me, on top of this, I end up losing my job in the long run.
Totally sad.
Anyways… to those who DO read this, thanks for your time, and I hope you guys can welcome me with open arms to this community.
I chose to be a part of the Street Fighter community not only because SFIV looks so good (and it does!) but also because honestly, this game is as old if not older than MK, and I have high hopes it has an older, more mature audience (especially considering it has official tournaments, etc).
Here’s to gaming with you all in the future.
Add me on PSN.
My PSN ID: vVv_MoRpHaZe
Take care.
