Not sure if this one is known:

3F safe jump from F+HK - EX Ruffian. Doesn’t work in the corner vs Ken/Akuma/Evil Ryu due to how far forward they move on startup but works vs Ryu in the corner.

Would that work on any ex ruffian that hits out of the air? Like from a trade rh ruffian, or tip rh ruffian -> ex ruffian etc?

Be weary that these aren’t true meaty setups and if an opponent has a 3 frame DP or viable reversal move with invincibility frames, you will lose flat out. (when I mean they aren’t true meaty setups, they aren’t in the SF4 sense. In any other game though if they hit a button it’s a easy fat CH for sure.)

But doesn’t hurt to set them up anyway until you see them attempt to DP/ultra/EX their way out.

I’m not sure I understand the distinction. A meaty setup is a setup that is designed to make an attack hit late in its active frames - surely whether they have an invincible reversal or not is irrelevant to the meatiness of the setup! Obviously you’re more likely to get hit if they have options to beat meaty attacks, but that doesn’t stop the attack being meaty…

I think he just means you’re less likely to land it since it’s harder to condition someone to push buttons when they have a solid answer to meaties.

Does anyone know of any safe LK Ruffian set ups? I THINK I’ve found one but the timing is manual and so it’s hard to have any consistency. I haven’t been in the lab for a while though. If I recall correctly it’s done from when you’re in the corner, you do his forward throw, throw rocks, step back, LK Ruffian is safe on block… I think. LoL.

Does anyone know of any more Cody idiosyncrasies? For example, when you’re in the corner his forward throw goes farther than when he is mid-screen. Those kind of things?

Lastly, does anyone feel like Cody’s cl.HK should be a command normal? I really do…

i’d rather they make cl.HK have a better AA hitbox than a command normal.

I’d rather they made close MK into exclusively a command normal with all of the same properties. Trust me when I say it would be incredibly good. It’d whiff on a lot of crouching opponents still but it’d b e AMAZING for buffering during footsies. Also it would allow new knife combos and it would allow far MK to become no longer range dependent which makes it easier to take advantage of it’s 5F active 9F recovery turning it into a great meaty tool since you’d be able to use it close enough to combo out of it but still farther than you might for a HP.

Also close MK as a command normal would be a viable anti air despite it’s hitbox being poor for anti airing it reaches up high and is very fast / far reaching and does a healthy 90 damage. It’d be a lot like M. Bison’s sHK in that regard.

Ok. You’ve got my attention. Nice foresight on the utility of cl.Mk. Which now leaves me to wonder why it’s his cl.Mk.

Also, I’m assuming this is a PC mod you’re using? If so, any chance this mod also sees hotbox and frame data?

It’s not possible to view hitboxes sadly even with modding. Frame data can be found on the wiki.shoryuken.com if you need it.

I want more than just standard frame data. I want things like, Am I at advantage or disadvantage when I focus dash certain moves or how many frames is one persons reeling animation, things like that.

most of that you’re going to have to do the math yourself.

I do like the cl.MK change to command normal idea. At least he gets an option for a far normal to combo into LK ruffian. (something besides cr.MP). It’d be another way for Cody to get in and start his game.

I’ve got a few clips stockpiled for these vids, but if anyone has any suggestions on stuff to illustrate I’m all ears :slight_smile:

So…I’m looking for you guys to drop me some knowledge here.

First, a question. Does the Momochi Special (Corner mix up where you do Ex Ruffian and do dash dash jump FP) not work in training mode? Because seriously… I can’t do it. At all. I can do it fine against online opponents but for some reason it doesnt work AT ALL in training. Is something wrong? If this is true… why does it not work?

With that said that set-up is a solid 50/50. Does Cody have ANY other solid 50/50’s? I know of none.
