"Hey! Let's do this for real." Concept/Discovery/Match-up Videos

woops i said plink instead of double tap in my post. i figure he rewired it as well just making sure its impossible to double tap on consecutive frames or if im wrong about that. Im about to rewire my stick and its nice to see even sasaki does it

Don’t post it in every thread, use the one that say’s critique my cody.

EDIT: Didn’t realize it’s a combo-vid. Cool combos, but still, you don’t have to put it in every thread

I didn’t even watch the video. I just went to YouTube and hit dislike. Then I reported his post. That’s just beyond obnoxious.

Messing around in training mode vs Gouken. I ALMOST feel sorry for Gouken players. The ability to parry Cody’s normals is easy as sin, but at the same time completely unintuitive.

Let me give you some examples: Cody far HK/HP can be countered mid or high. Cody’s overhead can be countered mid but not high and only the 2nd hit can be countered low. Cody’s c.MP can be countered mid but not low while his c.LP can be countered low.

Basically anything you think COULD parry Cody’s normals there is a decent chance it wont and things you think wouldn’t probably will.

I actually think Gouken is Cody’s best match-up in the entire game.

Better than Cody/T. Hawk? I’d care to hear why you think that. Definitely in his favor, but I don’t know if I’d say it’s his easiest match. Not over the T. Hawk match anyway.

Cody can stand in that close-ish midrange and abuse Gouken with t.MP, cr.lk into whatever and Gouken can’t really do much about it. His normals pretty much lose to all of Cody’s and demon flip can easily be reacted to with b.MP or even easier slide. Once Cody gets in and starts his frame trap/throw game it’s hell for Gouken who often just has to guess counter or ex. tatsu which can be punished hard. Even from longer ranges Gouken’s zoning is not really difficult for Cody to maneuver through (unlike Sagat’s).

T. Hawk is one of Cody’s easier match-ups as well but he’s still scary from close range whereas I feel Gouken loses to Cody from all ranges.

If Gouken gets a knockdown though Cody is in for hell, safe demon flips and frame traps after. And if Cody gets too happy with the b-mp to demon flip Gouken can change the timing because he stops in the air for a moment when he does the dive kick. So Cody will often try and do his b-MP a little deeper to make sure it wont whiff which means Gouken can potentially go for a demon flip grab which will beat b-mp/hk ruffian even slide if the throw is done late.

F-MP - cr lk abuse is good though you gotta watch out for counter or focus attack but that is what throw is for. It def becomes a rock paper scissors type gameplay there.

However I agree that despite Gouken’s fireballs being great they are probably the easiest to slide under in the game short of a high tiger shot and thus you can approach Gouken a lot easier. Though Zonk is pretty useless at many ranges since Gouken recovers so fast, and on block you’ll eat a sweep.

The nice thing though is that Gouken doesn’t have a DP or the standard shoto c.HP so he is more susceptable to crossups or empty jump overs into throw if you expect a counter attempt.

Being a Cody and a Gouken player I can honestly say I don’t know why the matchup would be that great for cody. I’ve fought some really good Goukens and it seems like a 5-5 matchup, I think most characters can pressure Gouken like cody can, is it just the fact that he kind of nullifies goukens fireball game?

I think Cody is better than most characters at pressuring Gouken. Gouken is weak against frame trap/throws which Cody excels at. Even though Cody struggles against zoners in general (Sagat, Dhalsim, Juri) he can easily slide under or dash ex. ruffian through Gouken’s fireballs and up-close/mid range he definitely wins.

Enjoy.

Awesome ADN! Is it Yang only?

Unfortunately it is. It’s that stupid 10 seconds limit that prevents me from finding other setups.

Wow thats awesome! Thank you sir!
Any tips on finding unblockables? I want to do some dirty stuff to cammy! XD

I tested the ex ruffian dash dash jf.hp fake crossup on every character a couple weeks ago or something.
Here’s who it works on:

Techtun > MetallicMike told me that in order to find his unblockables he aimed for a specific frame on the opponents wake-up and tested all of his jump-ins. He does it in a very scientific fashion. Me, I have started to know those wake-up timings intuitively and the more unblockables I find, the easier it gets to find new ones.

The first unblockables I found, I was actually looking for them. I would do a setup, randomly, and if it was a cross up I would try to vary jump distance, timing and button in order to either find a 50/50 or that setup that is neither a cross up, nor a regular jump-in. Sometimes it is an unblockable, sometimes it can only be blocked and sometimes it simply doesn’t exist and it’s either left or right. But a setup that doesn’t work on a character might work on another.

I have a precise example: Yesterday, I was looking of an unblockable on Cammy after Ultra 1 aided by my brother. I did ultra, walk forward for a couple of frames, did a crouching MK and then jumped with MK. I can’t tell whether it was unblockable or not but depending on how much I had walked, it would be cross-up or regular. But the difference is like one or two frames which is basically a 50/50. But the range at which I jump is somewhat the same as the other unblockable on cammy, the jump timing too. So, you know, maybe ; )

I don’t know if you get it. But basically, my method is very organic. I pick a character, try a jump-in and modify it, slightly every time until it’s unblockable (that is why some setups are super hard, involving walking back for 1 frame before jumping etc.).

Corner unblockables are easier to find because you only need to try different timings with different buttons (well, Cody has three: mk, hp, hk.)

a local makoto player showed me this glitch on cody. Good to watch out for.
