He's in the trees! And he's flarking mad! - The Rocket Raccoon Thread

How come the bear trap sometimes doesn’t ground bounce? Sometimes the opponent just rolls right back up.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but it’s a lot of pages to go through.

Akuma’s OTG works the very same. It’s dependent on the way the opponent’s body is relevant to the ground; if in a certain position, they won’t ground bounce. I believe it’s whenever their body isn’t actually touching the ground (animation wise), meaning the first and second states that the animation leaves them technically not touching the ground, it will groundbounce.

It could just be timed. Akuma and RR both can either hit very early or hit at a specific time later in the animation of the knockdown to ground bounce someone. Otherwise, it will make them roll out.

I’ve been having decent results with Spidey/Chris/Rocket. Spidey’s pretty good with log trap, and when people try snap Rocket in, I have Chris’s gunfire+burrow mixups which people don’t seem to expect after facing Spidey’s mostly airborne game. For incoming mixups I usually throw out a net or shrapnel trap and just teleport the instant they’re about to land on it. Doesn’t work on air-dashers of course, though if you toss out all three traps then teleport, chances are they’ll still land on one of them even if they airdash or double jump. Plus you can throw out Spidey’s spider sting to flyers, though I can’t really get a combo going afterwards. I’ve also found it’s pretty easy to wear out people’s x factor or power up supers if you just carefully spam H burrow. If they hover over you spamming L, you can just cancel H burrow into the spring super. -Shrug- Really Spidey and Chris are the stars of my team, but Rocket certainly holds his own.

Which is why you c.H before you teleport. Even if they manage to get out of there then, you’re in a very advantageous spot.

Noted, I always seem to forget he has this. I only use crH before his double shot cannon for zoning

Hey whatsup guys. I’ve hit a brick wall with my Rocket Raccoon and I’m moving on from him for the time being, and I figured I share my RR experience so far.

First thing you guys should know, I’m bad at this game lol. I’m a good gamer (competitive FPS roots), but I have terrible execution and I don’t really play enough MvC nowadays to make up for it. That being said I really like Rocket Raccoon and I try to play at my local weekly whenever I can. I really like MvC3 when it’s not making me rage lol.

When I saw Rocket Raccoon’s trailer I instantly decided I was going to main him. I tried building a team around him but unfortunately, the team I developed ended up being fatally flawed. My team is Trish/RR/Ammy. A friend of mine told me that a sign of a good team is the ability to one-touch a character at the start of the mach, and my plan was to use Trish’s meaty Round Harvest to set up RR’s unblockable to effectively one-touch. Unfortunately, RR has no answer to raw tags in this situation, because Round Harvest carries airborne targets too high for RR to confirm off of. The more I play at my weekly and the more I play online, the more I realize how badly my team is lacking damage output (aside from my anchor Ammy who I have 110% confidence in). There’s also another RR player at my weekly who plays Joe/RR/Arthur who takes way more advantage of RR than I do. I’ve decided to drop the team, and RR as a result, at least for now =/

At the moment, I am following my friend’s advice and picking up Doom to make team building easier. ā€œPick Doom. Any position. Any Assist.ā€ lol I plan on changing up my Vanilla team of Ammy/Sent/Dorm to Dorm/Doom/Ammy. I feel like the team will have great synergy and give me something cheap to exploit, something I haven’t been able to experience yet in Ultimate lol. I feel the team will also make Ammy even more of an asset to my team, and all of my friends agree that she is my best character by far and I should take advantage of it.

Once I’m satisfied with learning Doom, I want to go back to RR and find a way to make him work. At the last few Runbacks, there was a Halo player getting really far with Zero/RR/Ammy and it looks really fun. Since that’s my team with Zero instead of Trish and I’m also a Halo player, I definitely want to start there. I also eventually want to build a Trish team because I think Trish is really fun and I don’t want to drop her, I just wish I could use her with RR because they are so much fun to use together =(

So yeah guys, another day-1 RR main is dropping RR, but only for a little while. I’m going to go explore some other characters and then return to my RR/Ammy combo strong and free from the frustrations that are holding me back now.

Hopefully I can find the point character for my critters that I am seriously lacking. If anyone has ay recommendations feel free to share. And thanks for reading this noob’s wall of text if anyone does lol. This forum isn’t very active, but hopefully at least someone appreciates my little story, and I hope all the RR players are still going strong because Rocket Raccoon is ****ing awesome and so is anyone who mains him.

What, the Trish raw tag stuff sounds perfect for him because they’re set in a situation that is basically death (not really but you see the punishment I’m going for) if they land, which they have to. RR isn’t gonna do any damage even if he lands something after Trish round harvest. Damage isn’t his job. He picks and eats at them and lets others do that for him.

But your team overall having low damage…not sure. imo that’s okay, but hey.

Hmm. All the guys at my weekly just raw tag when I do the Round Harvest and I get nothing for it aside from them eating the Round Harvest damage. Their character that I hit in the first place regains red life, I have less meter than them, and now they’re way up in the air where I can’t touch them with RR and they have time to think before they have to land, depending on the character. It’s kinda come to a point where doing it puts me at a disadvantage and gives them momentum. There’s probably something I can do about it aside from call Low Voltage and hope I get a crossup but usually I just end up getting hit by something shortly after lol.

I used to be able to one touch most characters in the corner before everyone caught on. All it takes is a basic combo from Trish and a standard corner combo from RR, but now I can’t land any hits with RR because people raw tag. People online often eat it though lol.

Thanks though, I’ll try to give it some thought.

Edit

I feel I get more mileage out of Cold Star nowadays than I do Round Harvest.

Cold Star is a dumb ass assist so that makes sense. :stuck_out_tongue:

Everything about Ammy is awesome. Just be happy they didn’t keep the horizontal version of it from the beta lol.

Never have I ever fought against you at TRB, also, never have I ever seen anyone rawtag vs. round harvest lol. That just sounds like not a good idea to me.

But dropping RR for a bit is not a bad idea. I said the same thing when I saw him in the reveal trailer. Realized how ass I was at the game, and I moved away from him to the Avengers team. Now he’s been back on my teams and he’s on every single one of my teams. It’s fine to move away from him because he’s a character that needs a good understanding of the game to make work. I’m not saying I’m the best RR, but I’m getting blown up less, and having people at TRB / UCI rage at me for using him :P.

Oh no no sorry, I don’t go to TRB, I live in New Jersey and I go to The Nerd Palace lol. I mentioned TBR because someone I saw do well on stream uses Ammy and RR and is a Halo player (was that you?). I use Ammy and RR as well and I’m also a Halo player so I felt like I should try out his team because it looked fun but also out of loyalty lol.

I’m no stranger to having to deal with low tier characters, it’s just that I haven’t been playing enough at all lately to make RR work, especially when my team isn’t working the way I think it needs to. No way I’m dropping him for good though.

About Round Harvest though… what would you guys do as RR to deal with someone being that high up in the air after the raw tag? Raw tagging vs RR seems to be the best thing to do. Te only thing I can think of is Strider assist, but there’s no way I could ever get good with Strider lol.

If they raw tag and eat the scythe they take a lot of unscaled damage and from there you can do anything you want at all. Set up tons of traps and tag in another character or just keep picking at them for more bar. If they don’t you get an unblockable into the RR raw tag out setup, another Trish Round Harvest, they’re dead.

Hmm I haven’t tried setting up traps and tagging in another character… I may try that. Thanks.

Edit

Oil Bomb, st.h xx some kinda trap, tag back into Trish seems good.

Double Edit

So I just won a match by cr.h’ing Doom in the face from full screen during the startup of his plasma beam animation, and during the slowdown it looked like Doom put his hands up and RR shot him in the head haha.

I use Joe / RR / Cap. I never made it on stream so you’ll never see me. I made it out of my pool in Evo though with this team.

You found the way to take out sentinel too. Sent can’t do shit against c.H. Just can’t be too predictable and run the fk away w/ rocketskates if he gets close. c.H if he tries to HSF, just cancel it into H burrow. Headshot Sent all day.

Oh yeah yeah definitely, I just thought it looked really funny when doom got shot in the face in slow motion with his hands up lol.

c.H xx log trap/skates/teleport/trap (usually shrapnel or boulder) is anti-anyone with a huge body. Just be careful around Hulk and hyper sent force.

Someone clue me in on his solo unblockable. Is it Boulder Trap + low?

yes, exactly that. Need to set it up though.
