He's in the trees! And he's flarking mad! - The Rocket Raccoon Thread

Pretty much this. R. Raccoon was masterfully used for his keepaway abilities, but i think he can be used aggressively/offensively too. However, when Ageojoe was down to only Rocket, he did rushdown lots, which was cool to see. WORD UP, the more rocket exposure, the better.

I’m happy I haven’t dropped rocket since launch day ~!

I missed that too! lol I did catch Grand Finals! We must develop more tech!

Now we get to see everyone really overrating log trap assist!

I’ll be happy if it brings more RR players in, as long as they can realise that log trap is not a foolproof plan by any stretch and want to actually learn to use RR.

Great stuff by Kusoru, he plays some characters that aren’t easy, that’s for sure. He figured out ways to put his opponents in unfamiliar situations and it worked out pretty well for him. Definitely one of the best Raccoon players I’ve seen, I just wish I got to see more of his actual Raccoon play rather than log trap haha.

That I totally agree with. Hence his use of Log Trap surprised me cause some people normally don’t call it out. I do wish we could’ve seen more Raccoon but I think he used him more in matches with Champ Mihe and Combofiend…all of except 1 I missed.

good job raccoon dudes

Oh great now everyones gonna be using Rocket Raccon.

Don’t mean they’ll have the patience to keep playing him but we’ll see. I mean it’s nice to see more Raccoon play but not at the cost of everyone trying to use him for the assist and not know how the character works. If anything this could make players more innovative when it comes to the game now.

LOL really? I dare them to try to play RR. He’ll scare off half of the people just because he has a good amount of DP motions.

Don’t downplay Kusoru just because the US was unfamiliar, he’s been a well known Guilty Gear player for ages. I doubt he will get away with that much of a stomp again but he ain’t all gimmicks.(Ok actually he is all gimmicks but I’m glad to see that part of him hasn’t changed :P)

The inexperience goes both ways.

This as well. I found this out shortly after looking him up. Apparently he’s known for GG and Sengoku Basara X. There was a degree of inexperience but we can’t forget the guy was no slouch either.

Yes, the unfamiliarity is indeed a factor… but you can’t downplay the genius behind Kusoru’s team.

  • Joe’s triple jump takes him to superjump height feigning vulnerability, and opponent are punished by log + divekick; a wicked setup. He controls the skies as well as the ground with shopping cart + dive kick.
  • Joe’s combos are easy to lead into camera, which racks up a lot of meter as well as setting up a level 3-5 frank in no time.
  • Joe and RR are so small that the number of combos you can do against them are limited. Their size also causes them to drop out of happy birthdays easily… as seen multiple times during FR. However, it is fact that people will learn combos that will work on RR.
  • Log provides solid protection for joe’s keepaway.

Note that I am stating reasons why they are good as a team, and not their individual strengths/weaknesses.

Either way, mind = blown. Will be interesting to see if more RR teams come out, and his placing on the new grand tier list!!!

I wasn’t trying to imply Kurosu isn’t amazing. His team also has some really awesome synergy, though the fact he has Frank means RR has to be in 3rd, but if all goes to plan I guess it doesn’t matter that RR is last there, he can easily DHC him in after Frank is leveled or just destroy before he is even reduced to just Rocket.

The one thing I don’t really agree with is “Log provides solid protection for joe’s keepaway”, it kinda seems to be the opposite really, he covers the assist with joe and if the log lands he gets an easy conversion, otherwise it doesn’t matter and he is still in his optimal zone. There is a weakness here to random super of course, if Joe goes for the dive kick and the opponent uses something like Chaotic Flame, RR is getting lit up.

EDIT: I’m also familiar with Kusoru’s GG and BB adventures. He has an… interesting style in those games for sure.

I missed GF, but holy shit LOL.

OK. first off, I never thought Kusoru would win, ever. I honestly thought he’d get knocked out of the tournament, but he blew all my expectations of the water.

And yes, players were largely unfamiliar with the Pendulum assist(though Kusoru had plenty of vids out there, but it’s one thing to watch and another to play against it.) I honestly thought Joe and Frank were the meat of his team, with RR’s assist just baffling people badly. I don’t think he was showing anything new with RR either, and I’d still never put RR in anchor, ever. It’s going to be scarier for people once somebody discovers a fully optimized RR team, and fully masters RR’s capabilities. It’s just a small glimpse of what’s to come from this char. FlyingVe once described this char as like having Jill in Mad Beast mode at all times, I’m starting to see what he meant now(though I think RR can’t go nuts all the time, just when he has you pinned down.) In the future, I think RR’s gonna be really wild, if he turns out like I think he’s gonna turn out.

I’m happy that RR got repped, but ultimately, people’ll most likely just focus on his assist, rather than his actual capabilities.
Don’t mistake this for shitting on Kusoru though, I’m happy an RR team did work and won a major, US didn’t know about RR, which wasn’t Kusoru’s fault and Kusoru deserved to win, because he worked hard with his team.

This is exactly what I’m thinking right now haha, it’s strange for so much attention to be on a minor part of the character when he’s been mostly ignored for so long.

Kusoru brought me here…

The best part is, everyone was going gaga over the assist, then people said it wasn’t that good after a while. Then come Final Round, EVERYONE got bopped by it lol and people say it’s good again lol.

I think pendulum is a good assist, but it’s not foolproof like someone said up top. Morrigan’s up forward dash, and Zero’s teleport go over it. There’s going to be a lot of bandwagoners that will pick him up, then drop him because, well… 750k hp for A TON of work. Also, there are better RR’s out there. Kusoru is known to be a big troll, and it shows in his gameplay. The only difference is, he’s a high level troll lol.

That being said, I’m starting to like my RR team(s) more and more, even though they’re not original teams. I’m going to have to make the switch soon. He’s a real fun character to use.

EDIT : The funniest part is that, everyone tries to snap in the raccoon thinking he’s the problem. I think Joe is more of the problem because that’s where all of his damage came from. Yes it’s an annoying assist, but it’s not the thing that’s killing. LOL.

This is another thing I wanted to bring up. Everyone was saying snap in RR! But who was doing the work lol? Joe was the meat of the team, then Frank, then RR. IMO, RR’s not a good anchor, since without assists, he has a hard time getting going.

Frank and Joe were doing the main damage. Get rid of Joe, or Frank, IMO. I’d rather kill Joe, or snap in Frank and kill him since he’s also got a good assist and becomes a nightmare when he gains levels.

i cant work racoon without assits at all

hell my bnb needs at least 1 for it to work(i suck)

I just hope he gets exploored by more people now lol , there are like 4 people who even post in raccon boards often

and I suck which doesn’t help much
