He's in the trees! And he's flarking mad! - The Rocket Raccoon Thread

You cant keep a good nigga down.

burrows out the thread

Hyper canceled burrows makes him even more of a meter hog, a slot 2 or 3 character for sure.

X-Factor 3 Rocket Skates is gonna be sick. Infinity resets.

H Burrow is hyper cancellable?

H Burrow xx Spring Trap makes me feel so grimy.

It isn;t like you HAVE to use hypers while burrowed. Itā€™s just you can.

He seems like of those characters that can make great use of meter, but doesnā€™t need to.

I think you guys are making the

burrow as better as it will be. I mean, it will be AMAZING when you have a level of hyper, but when you donā€™t your opponent can literally walk to where you are and start a combo chain like that.

I may be wrong, though.

But does anyone know how many frames his spring hyper has?

Oh and another thing that Iā€™m surprised no one has mentioned, Rocket Raccoon can make great use of push block (advancing guard) when he has traps across the screen.

What I meant is that when Vanilla MvC3 came out, there were characters who we thought were going to be good/broken, and ended up being almost non-existent on a competitive level (ie. Chun-Li), we had characters that looked very powerful we thought were going to be very good, and ended up being very good (ie. Sentinel), and then we had characters that people did not give a second thought to, who ended up dominating at tournaments (ie.Wolverine, Akuma). Until the game gets out to players, itā€™s going to be hard to say where we will be placing Rocky in eight months.

This is from a post by Obake in the very excellent ā€˜first impressionsā€™ thread that was posted recently. What stood out to me is in bold, what stood out to everyone else is in italicsā€¦

I donā€™t know how this is all going to shake out at the end of the day, Iā€™m just putting on my downer pants because sometimes things that seem overpowered in announce trailers and play tests donā€™t always end up being that way in the long run.

It depends on if you have to use meter to make burrowing safe, which we donā€™t know yet.

People are apparently going crazy over H burrow being cancellable to hyper. I donā€™t really think it is as strong as people are assuming now. First of all, we donā€™t even really know if it really is safe to do. From the little we tested it seemed to be but we could be wrong. Also as AmishOpiate did well to notice, the H burrow is super unsafe when used raw and is not that great to attack since he moves under the ground very slowly.
I think the real power will be in the L/M version mixup because it is fast, and can be used with assists to get a free 50/50 mixup. Given the right setup it can even be used with RR alone. People should be more concerned about this I think, and also the ridiculousness of rocket skates, itā€™s just unreal how fast they are and itā€™s possibilities. The fact that a character with great keepaway tools has great left right mixups and crazy rush-down when used that way, is being severely overlooked over what I think is nothing more than a gimmick (H burrow).
And now that someone mentioned it, we didnā€™t even try rocket skates when xfactored, that should be something fun to seeā€¦

hypercancelling burrows is as safe as the hypers themselves areā€¦ And the trap at least looks super damn safe.
I agree 100%. He looks like he has some good zoning options, but his mix up potential with rocket skates seems to good to not try to get in there and abuse it. Obviously it will really depend on the match up. If youā€™re fighting someone with poor mobility like Wright or possibly Hulk a little more zoning would be a good idea, against someone who has better zoning options like Dormammu might give you some trouble if you tried to keep away too much. I plan on using him with Sent definitely. Drones seem too good to say no to with all the rocket skate lunacy.
Iā€™m glad am not the only one saying that Rocket Skates is nuts. The fact that he can cancel NORMALS into Rocket Stakes, mean he can be hella safe if he wants to be.

How Rockyā€™s instant overheads, does he have a good high/low game!?

He can do near-instant overheads by immediately canceling his normal jump into hover, similar to Storm.

its also gotta help that his j.M instantly cancels all vertical momentum.

rocket skate

That burrow attack also seems like a great way to get away from hypers. I mean, I donā€™t think there is a hyper that lasts for any longer than 4 seconds, and if you predict right he can easily just dodge powerful hypers like Akumaā€™s level three or basically any level 1.

Iā€™m not even thinking about Burrow right now, Iā€™m thinking about Rocket Skates. Iā€™m so interested in what you can do with it.

Rocketā€™s damage doesnā€™t seem to be that great right now and his tools are more so designed around trapping and keepaway, but with burrowing, Rocket Skates and his j.:m: he seems like he could have a really solid mix-up game as well.

Considering those three things along with his Storm style float he seems to have so many really interesting mobility options that can be both be used offensively and defensively.

I am in love with this character already and I havenā€™t even touched him yet.

Has anyone seen a video or something of how visible RR is when someone is coming in with a assist covering RRā€™s burrow for potential mix ups?

And how fast is the Light and Medium burrow teleport?

Hmmm Iā€™m thinking of using Deadpool/Dante/Raccoon in some order and calling it ā€œTeam Light Em Upā€. Do you guys think this could actually be a good team? Or should I just save it to troll online?

Thatā€™s one thing Iā€™m curious about, can you actually call in assists while burrowed. Iā€™ve only watched the trailer and the 2 gameplay videos that came with it and I donā€™t really an assist being called while RR is burrowed.

Burrowing is a special move and you canā€™t normally call assists during special moves so the safe answer for right now is ā€˜No.ā€™
