Wahh keep chasing me around threads with nothing to actually say. Though I shouldn’t expect better from a wrestling fan. Accept that he didn’t cover Ryu’s clear lacking ability (there isn’t going to be anything special to “discover” over time…he’s fucking Ryu…we all know him) when making that statement.
Oh wow, I’m chasing you around two threads, one is the Gen Dis that everyone checks, and the other, oh look, it’s MY thread, no shit I’m checking here. Anyway, I won’t be seeing you again, ignore list, bye bye now.
That’s given there’s actually anything to find. Here’s hoping, but it ain’t looking too good right now.
lol @ putting people on ignore lists
Anyways, Ryu is deadly with meter. Combine that with assists being a bit slower and taking a hell of a lot more damage. All you need to know.
If Ryu could Parry… I wonder if Daigo could stop Haggar’s machine gun punch…
……
This shit needs to happen.
I’ll bring the potato chips lol.
Well SKill said everyone is sick so assuming he doesn’t want to trash his rep, I guess we can just assume this guy has a lot of hidden tricks he’s never had in all the other x-overs he’s been in.
He probably forgot Ryu even exists in the game.
 This is depressing, man. I really want Ryu to be good. I just wanna blast people with Hadoukens and donkey kicks AND WIN!!! He’s # 2 on my “List of characters I have to prove are beastly via use” right under Haggar but above Felicia. I doubt they’d make a great team, though. Speaking of which…
Anyone have any guesses at who would be good at assisting Ryu if he was on point? Right now he seems like a character that would be a fantastic 3rd on the team for SRK assist and DHC purposes, but what about point? Or even second? He’s pretty balanced in terms of tools with a fireball and AA, and as we all know and have commented on, Shinkuu is beast. Maybe a full screen beam assist like Ironman’s? Hulk’s Gamma Wave would be a good way of pushing forward a well. Maybe he could have two assists to help him move since he already has an AA. I’m not too sure of his OTG potential alone yet (Unlike fucking Akuma n Wesker. Jesus those guys are crazy).
Just as well, what type of playstyle would he be? He isn’t mobile, so I could see him baiting a rushdown character and destroying them with punishment (Keep jumping my Hadoukens bitch… SHORYUKEN!). As for a strong keepaway character… I could imagine him turtling his way towards them with the help of a full screen assist or two.
Anyone else have any ideas at all?? He sounds like more work than Haggar.
I say give Morrigan’s Dark Harmonizer a shot as it allows you to build up meter to fire off your shinkuus.
/2 cents.
Pure theoryfighting:
I’d put him with a meter-building assist to power his Shinkuu Hadokens and an anti-air projectile so he can cover both the sky and ground with projectiles. Amaterasu and Taskmaster would both benefit from his SRK assist and fill those roles. If you want a rushdown style, Viper’s Burn Kick would fix his problem with a weak overhead game and a multi-hitting ranged assist would help him get in. Amaterasu’s Cold Star could fill that and help Viper, too, or Doom’s Molecular Shield. (Obvious answers, I know, but I couldn’t think of anything better.)
The other option is to try to set up a team to bait out assists and then punish them with Shinkuu Hadoken. This style will likely require you to tailor a group specifically to counter another group, though.
Glad you reminded me of that beautiful succubus’ meter charge assist. There is always room for more Shinkuus.
I like they way you think, and do not feel bad about what you said, this is new to me, for I myself am new. Ammy would be a great addition to a team. I love her period, and it helps that she is a, not only literally, but also a proverbial, beast. Between SRK with Ryu on point and Cold Star, I doubt anyone would try to take me on in the air, and given the assist’s reach, it help me forward. I would also use it as a punish/lock down/you gettin uppity and done fucked up type of move. I want to try and bait with Ryu as well as rushodwn. To keep variety in my game and to keep me fresh with all scenarios.
I’ll read up on Morrigan and how to use dat sexy mama in combat. I always see her brought up for different reason. A solid addition to any team it seems.
Thanks guys! See you… later on SRK. Hahaha. :china:
I definitely think Ryu could find a niche on teams as an assist punisher. There’re always going to be teams that utterly rely on certain assists to be good, and a Ryu with meter can punish pretty much any assist from anywhere on screen, potentially setting up any number of DHCs, too. It might be fun to design a team strategy around assist baiting and punishing. Figure out different tactics to lure or even force your opponent to call an assist, then all the various synergies for punishing in the worst possible way.
Ooo… I’m gonna go think about this.
I know people are saying Akuma puts Ryu away but looking at the assist one good thing about Ryu vs Akuma is that Ryu has a DP assist where Akuma doesn’t (I’m actually glad thats one of the things he has over Akuma) plus more stamina and a hyper he can aim almost anywhere on the screen.

Ryu is the main focus, obviously. He’ll be all about assist punishing. Always a full meter, always doing things to bait out that assist and then punish it from wherever he is on screen with aimable shinkuu.
I figure he’ll need a meter-boosting assist, so that means Morrigan or Amaterasu:
Morrigan - She’s a nice compliment to any team. On the plus sides, she’s very versatile (with moves similar to Ryu’s), quite fast, and has some nice priority. She’s not too great in the damage and defense departments, though, and she requires meter of her own to do any real damage. Still I could see her using Astral Vision from across the screen to smack her opponent from behind. Her DHCs are going to be lacking, though.
Amaterasu - Also a great, super-versatile character. Her super is almost as good as Ryu’s for punishing, and easily DHC’able to/from anything. Also only mid damage/defense, though. Her zoning abilities with her whip seem really potent, and good for smacking assists and then canceling to hyper/DHC.
For the third member, I can think of several possibilities:
Deadpool - Anti-air projectile assist, tons of baiting moves (pineapples), good DHCs.
Sentinel - Defense and damage, good reach, good assists, good DHCs.
Taskmaster - Mostly thinking about his arrows and all their different directions. I can see an upward arrow shot being called BEFORE an enemy assist, only to rain down as they come in, allowing for hit confirmed punishment. Arrow hyper is almost as versatile as Ryu’s, too, and he has all those great counters.
Wesker - The opposite type of punishment (melee), but Wesker’s teleports could be great punishment tools, anyway, and Maximum Wesker is a great punisher/DHC. Only drawback is that his assist wouldn’t bring much to the table.
Chris - Mine assist could be really useful, forcing jump-ins to deal with srk’s. DHCs would be decent, too, and he has a lot of the same kinds of baiting tools DP has.
Trish - Similar to Taskmaster, she has versatile hypers/DHCs, and good assists for punishing. Also a good stand-alone character. Not the greatest for raw damage, though.
So… thoughts? I need to pick one of the two meter builders, and then a third character from the bottom list.
Just like to point out, Ryu hits fucking hard. I’ve looked through the assist video and his DP assist does a whopping 150,000 damage. Compare this to another hard hitter like Hulk whose two dash assists both do 135,000. So I’m guessing Ryu is going to be a powerhouse in terms of damage output
i dont know what people were talking about ryu has a wave dash and is pretty godlike just simple
Ryu SRK assist is 150, Hulk 135, I think someone else is like 127 than you have a lot of people on 102 like Morrigan and X-23, than they go down to 90s and 80s like Viper, Storm, Zero, Spiderman etc.
Personally don’t like this Ryu compared to his TvC version but I’ll still mess around with him more… very good third character for AAA and DHC and an assist killer as well.
Got an early copy of the game and play ryu for 3 hours. Ryu does a ton of dmg. His hadoken does descent dmg as well(unlike mvc2) and his lvl 3 shin shoryuken super is damaging. Cross-Up air tatsu with lp is good, alot of frame advantage on hit, hard to block and is moderately fast. It allows you to follow up with a deadly ground combo into super and/or continue into an air combo. Most annoying thing about ryu is the shortcut input. Ryu has a normal that inputs standing foward hp which is call a roundhousekick (s.hk from ssf4 not the side trust one from 3rd strike). So when you input roundhousekick and do hadoken, it come out shoryuken instead just like ssf4. Any suggestion on how to fix this? (Try doing it slow but its like 30% success/70% failure rate)
A,B,C,Forward and C, Hadouken into Shinku hadouken, KFC, Shin Shoryuken and then shinku hadouken on the way down for 1.5mill damage LOL
5bars and kfc which can only be done in the corner…
