Do you play on a different screen at home? If so, what is it? You dropping combos might not be because of the switch from PS3 to Xbox. Instead, it could be video lag… I noticed myself dropping combos when I played at Heroes while I would nail them at home (I play on 40" Samsung LCD screen… with like 50ms, ~3 frames lag) and now I downgraded to use my computer monitor (20" with 15ms, ~1 frame lag). Inherently, there’s a lot of video lag on LCD HDTV screens due to the processing they need to do. Monitors usually do not have to do this processing and have less lag. There’s a thread in Tech Talk that is dedicated to describing this problem and can be found at here
Don’t worry about the tourney atmosphere. The people there are pretty cool and laid back. There’s no hard feelings (I think) over losses and stuff and the better players will be willing to help you out with your game. If you aren’t confident in your abilities, don’t think of it as a tournament, think of it as a learning experience. There’s usually going to be better players who show up to get the fightmoney haha…(BTW, ggs to Matt and his Viper who showed my Guile is free for him…)
Jon, let me know if you’re having casuals tonight at your place haha…
yea, i’m using an dell monitor for gaming at home. I’m almost positive it’s the 2 frame input lag that messed me up I haven’t played on my xbox for about a month.
i wouldn’t even sweat it dude! it’s good exp and i’ll have casual stations set up as well. When i first started playing for real (when SSFIV came out) i was getting trashed! like Fadiguy was getting 50+ winning streaks on me easily…now i’m at the point there i’m very close to 1/3 against him…so you gotta take those beatings to really learn the game…and online is just silly to go though cause you don’t even have someone next to you that can tell you what your doing wrong, or what’s making it easy for them to beat you.
I’ll see if we can swing the Friday night Casuals a few more times…but like i said before i can usually only have 2 stations as rest of the room is taken up my Magic The Gathering tourney and D&D events. Speaking of which if anybody want’s to learn how to play MAGIC we can teach you and you can get a FREE magic demo deck as well!
oh snap! i forgot about Darkstalkers!!! What sticks work with DC though? or is there an adapter
yeah, i think the new monitors we got are working pretty decent…at home on my regular TV i can tell a slight difference. I do also feel that xbox seems faster but it could all be in my head. can anybody verify that the newer LG monitors we picked up are “lag free” cause i was thinking of trying to get one or two more.
yep! i remember you for sure! I don’t remember your Real name, but i remember your handle. i’ll try to have 5 stations set up regardless…but if you know your coming let me know so we can let ppl know in advance. don’t want you to show up all BB ready and then nobody want’s to give it a try…although i’m sure some ppl will want a break from SF and give it a whirl
oh also, i’m thinking of pushing back the Nov 13th tourney, cause i just realised that the date overlaps with Canada Cup weekend. Dates i’m kicking around are Nov 20th or 21st…most likely the 21st.
but the cup is in calgary…so i dunno how many players from here will be journeying out there
if u live near STC you should go to level up STC with js master and ehai. its $15 and ur in a group of 6 and for like 4 hrs they will help you out with your game. you can check it out on the SRK forums (its stickied on canada matchmaking).
JS plays rog, ehai plays chun and both of them went to seasons beatings and beat team japan in the team battles so they are legit.
As for what sticks Dreamcast use, most people either use the MAS stick, if they’re playing Marvel, or they use the Agetec Green Goblin. I actually have one of those lol
not sure if pushing the tournament date really does anything, so far there are only a few people from GTA heading out to Canada Cup. it’s your choice though.
lol i have 3 of those Green Goblins, but only one of them is fully functional.
Hey thanks for letting me know about that. I went there today but I didn’t get much playing time in because they only had two setups. I learned how to keep zangief and rufus out though. It’s unfortunate because JS said it would be his last level up session for a while.
i suspect the flame kick is pretty nasty to dudley, most of the time you can simply block it…cause i usually mash it out to see if ppl miss thier links (very bad habit of mine) but since dudley is so rush down it seems to clip alot of players on offence, cause i assume it has more priority then some of dudleys go to moves, espically if i do the EX version cause it deals so much damage. I’m sure a couple more games and you’d have figured out how to avoid them. So we’ll see ya wednesday!
also for you DC players…i do have a dreamcast with a VGA box, so i can hook that up on a wednesday as well if ppl wanna bring a copy of 3S and some joysticks that work with it…just let me know
Of course! I’ll be on tonight around 7PM, we can play then if you’re free. I use a bit of Rufus as well, if you’d like some practice against him.
Jon, the issue with the Flame Kick is, you’ll only get me with it if I drop a link. I don’t think throwing it out is the best idea either, too unsafe. I don’t know Fei-Long enough to comment but there has to be a safer way to punish. We can work on it together on Wednesday. I’ll pick Dudley this time and we’ll see what Fei-Long’s advantages are against him.
