I hope you are not serious but just in case you are. Gems/Cards will completely toss any sort of balance out the window. So while it will be fun its not practical for competitive play. Example. lets say I have the super duper uber downloadable gem/card that makes my character have all specials chainable infinite meter and unlimited x factor + 1billion extra health and you did not… would that be fair or balanced? but if there were a way to switch that off… ta da there is your answer.

Pretty much this. Heroes and Heralds is free and has no impact on the balance of the core game. Gems impact the balance of the core game yet are PAID DLC. If your Ryu is stronger than my Ryu simply because you were willing to spend more money on better gems, any competitive legitimacy the game might have once had is lost.

Also compared to the slight buffs that Gems seem to provide, the Cards have game-breakingly crazy effects. It’s like playing CVS2 with EX Grooves and infinite meter turned on, but even more nuts. It’s a mode that is going to be great for late night side tournaments and drunken money matches but you’ll never see Heroes and Heralds on the main stage at EVO because it’s going to be the most imbalanced shit ever.

Does anyone else think it’s interesting that Firebrand is shown as a “Hero”? That’s pretty cool I think.

This mode is too cool. Even if I don’t play it all that much, it’s gonna be fun to seek out all dem cards. I just hope achievements are added to the game through the DLC that relates to this mode, or at least winning in certain ways would win titles or something. Do we know if this mode is playable online yet?

Unlimited Meter/Unlimited X-factor/Team-of-one + Phoenix.

Immunity to projectiles/Megacrash X-factor to counterpick that team. ^.^

That said I intend to play this and have a ridiculous amount of fun with it. It may not be competitive, but that’s not what it needs to be.

I’m sorta hoping they replace the title or avatar with a card of your choice. Too bad this won’t happen since it is a post launch dlc but still would be cool.

These are just all the ‘known’ ones so far, overall there’s going to be over 100 cards so chances are that there will be at least one of the megamen amongst the other characters coming in as cards.
