Here Comes A New Browser: Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7 and you

Thought I’d put this up as late as hell:

Firefox 2

  • So far, so good
  • Same great taste, new look.:lovin:
  • RSS feed subscription are different. Now they pop up and show you the aggregated RSS feed with a style attached to it, showing the RSS feed contents.
  • Some of FFs original plug-ins work.
  • SRK Toolbar does not.

Internet Explorer 7

  • tabbed browsing.
  • RSS feed subscriptions allowed.
  • text rendering is terrible and blurry. An unfixed issue with the beta back to bite you on the ass.

both Boasts security, which needs to be tested still.

Is it me or do both of them look like Opera? Oh well, I’m still going to use Firefox(2) lol

my choice is opera…

necessary extension for FF2: tabbrowser preferences… allows you to config where (if at all) the close tab buttons appear

Lynx 2.8.5 just came out.

That gets no mention?

ie needs to scrub this “auto installing active-x” crap, and 99% of malware would disappear overnight. That and stop letting users run/open anything direct from a web browser ever. Ease of use be damned: the amount of spy/malware infected Windows PCs is way too high, all in the name of “user friendliness”.

I’m a Linux user, so FireFox2 is installed and staying. No reason to use anything else as they’re all either non-free or inferior.

…because these two are fightin’ an’ that one’s not near them.

i like firefox more than internet explorer, cause after i installed explorer 7 for some weird reason windows started tellin me that my copy of xp was not original :wtf:

^ The Genuwine Windows XP thing. Not sure what that’s all about. Microsoft must be cracking on some folks’ copies of the OS because my dad got it also and he’s on IE 6 still. Then, few months later, I got it on my home PC. Clones would get it for sure unless you have a real copy of the OS.

7 just takes up waaay too much RAM to make your browser text blurry. Sadly, I thought this was fixed. Apparently not. The layout is also the same as the original betas with the address bar up and the menu bar not even appearing. They turned this into an optional feature. OPTIONAL. Also, this and the Windows Explorer are now separate in the 7 bracket: means that you can’t access your C:\ drive folders from the browser.

I’m not as happy with FF2 as I should be. It still has ram issues, I don’t like the fact that some of my extensions don’t work, and I’ve had quite a few random stalls and crashes so far. Slashdot also says that there’s some major security issue with 2.0. I’m still using it, but I’m thinking about going back to the previous version.

Opera is still the best.

That’s not FireFox’s fault. The extension authors need to get off their arse and update.

i must say that after hearing you guys talk about Opera i followed the link provided and so far i am feeling it way more that firefox and internet explorer, so am sticking to opera from now on:wink:

Some flaws pointed out:

Luckily, I didn’t fully upgrade

My 2.0 crashes also :frowning: .

Also, for some reason I can’t view wmv files on my firefox browser. It tells me to install plugin which I have.

So whassup wid it? Why is it doing it?

Fasterfox is now compatible with Firefox version 2.0: www.fasterfox.com

I’ve been using firefox, just got opera. I think its going to take some getting used to, but I think I’ll like it more.

Used Opera awhile back prior to FF2, Opera can be buggy from time to time, and other than a few ram problems FF has been really good to me.

Anyone have answers?

Its a browser…not a video player.
