Henshin A Go Go, Baby! Viewtiful Joe Thread

how much bar does it give you in relation to air joe. I im pretty sure that was the big thing it had over rhks in tvc

yeah I missed typed that. You’re suppose to always do a j.H after an air joe. I didn’t put that in.

Has anyone messed around with using Viewtiful God Hand for the DHC glitch? I got it to work with Deadpool out of Cutting time, but its pretty difficult to execute. You have to DHC just a hair after deadpool stops moving after his 4th hit. If you do it too soon VGH will connect, if you do it to late comboing after the whiffed VGH is impossible. If you time it just right, and then wait til just before the opponent hits the ground out of the spin state, you can c.M, H, c.H, (insert combo here). I just started using Deadpool and Viewtiful Joe this week in order to make a lame zoning team, so I don’t know any good combos for them, but with simple combos built around the magic series and each character’s specials/Vjoe’s triple jump I was able to get a bit above a million. This costs 3 bars, but you generate about a bar and a half I believe. Once I get my Deadpool/Vjoe combos down I’ll reexperiment with this. I imagine I can get at least 3 or 400k extra damage out of it with proper combos. Also better combos will probably generate more meter, potentially making this possible with only one bar to start with.

Just had a weird thought, can you stack up Joe’s slow and Ame’s slow?

I’m using Joe and Deadpool too.

Share us some of your discoveries later - I’d love to know them <3

Yes, for example, With amaterasu, you can use her (air) :qcb:+:h: , which groundbounces, cancel it into MIST, then DHC mist into joe’s GodHand, which will combo off the ground bounce. I do believe they are extra slow.

Ugh I’m still having trouble getting the IAD voomerangs consistently. It doesn’t help that the noel vs josh video is set to private either >:(

Man this place is so barren. You’d think a hype game like Marvel 3 would have peeps crowding around ALL character boards.

I’d like some Joe write ups plz ;_;

Daedalus, thanks for posting your bnb. For time being I’m borrowing it. It was kinda tricky to get the hang of at first, but now that I’m close to being able to do it consistently its a really satisfying combo to pull off. One thing though, some times I have problems getting everything perfect so that in the end I’m high enough to do 2 medium RHK’s, especially midscreen where I sometimes cross them up during the launch… However I did notice that I could squeeze an extra M into the first part of the air combo. While this only gets you about 30k extra damage, for some reason it seemed to help me get the elevation more consistent when i did it this way. Just a thought. But thanks a ton for figuring it out in the first place.

EDIT: This cuts it real close with the hitstun decay. I was doing this on the combo out of a c.M. I just tried it with j.S, and the ending won’t work if you throw in the extra j.M.

Now that I’ve got a decent BnB for Joe, I’m working on a better one for Deadpool. I’d like to learn the tragic quick work loop combo, because it does good damage and ends in Cuttin’ Time, but its pretty tricky. If I can get it down I’ll try to string these two BnB’s together via the DHC glitch, and let you guys know the results. I’m guessing it’ll do around 1.3mil. Also I checked the meter gain on both combos and my previous thoughts were correct. You should be able to do this DHC glitch combo off of one meter (at the start) with Deadpool, making it viable right off the bat in a match. You even end with a little extra meter. Pretty scary stuff. I don’t play any other characters with cinematic Hyper Combos, but I’m sure you can do similar things with the other DHC glitch starting characters on point.

You just gotta practice getting the right height of the airdash before throwing the Voomerang. Ideally you want to barely be able to squeeze out the first Voomerang before you hit the ground. Since the air Voomerang is completely cancelled when you touch the ground, you can either throw a second one right behind it or dash behind it IAD into more. Doing :dp:+:m: also puts you at the perfect height to airdash (back or forward) into a Voomerang. Mix up your approach options from far away by whiffing c.H into :dp:+:m: then airdash Voomerangs or go for a crossup j.:s:.

The thing about that, is that pretty much no top players give him any attention at all. FlashMetroid plays him, but talks shit about the game all day. He got Phoenix’d out at Final Round and calls this game “fun but not competetive”. I guarantee you this board would explode if he made top 16. And we’ve barely seen anything from Josh Wong’s Joe, I hope he’s been in the lab, cuz TBQH his Joe is ass besides the Voomerangs.

I hope I’m not making empty promises here, but I literally just graduated from college last week, and am gonna start going to Wed Night Fights. I highly doubt I’ll be the one to put Joe on the map finally, but I hope to see you guys on the stream soon :3

Do we really want tournament players to sell our character? I mean it’s great that a top player goes and shows off some new things but we should be the ones finding out more crazy stuff then they do. We are a collective of Joe users. Flash is just one person. No matter how strong of a player he is, we should not have to wait for tournament footage when we can publish our own Joe videos.

Congrats on graduating college. My main is Fuerte too so I hope to see both Joe and him at WNF.:karate:

Interesting, I play Fuerte as well, and here we all are on the Joe boards…I smell a correlation.

Would you say your post summarizes Joe’s best approach options? I’m having a hard time getting in and making things happen with him. I’ll practice everything you mentioned here.

What assist do you guys usually use for joe? I’ve spent this whole week figuring stuff out with Shocking Pink, and I’m starting to realize its potentially really good. It can be pushed around by any hit, and if it catches them they will be launched into an untechable spiral state until they touch the ground. I play Deadpool/Joe/Dorm, and I find that I can add it to my projectile play to create some neat stuff. In a lot of cases if I can push it full screen with proper projectile usage, and if it also manages to catch the opponent off guard and confirm, I can often dash in and combo after it (if I am preemptive with the dashing). Dormammu + SP is the best, because i can call it right onto a flame carpet, and then use medium purification, and it will bounce into the purification, dissapear behind it for a second, and then fly out right on top of the opponent if they are just a touch closer then full screen. Also the move has OTG properties. I found with a lot of characters if you call the assist right as you hit S, you can follow up with a normal M,M,H,S air combo and if your near the corner they’ll land right on the bomb as it explodes, giving you ample time to juggle them back into a ground combo to launch. Makes Dormammu EXTRA terrifying in the corner.

I also noticed that the spiral state caused by the bomb looks similar to the one used for DHC glitch combos. I’ve yet to test it, but perhaps it works in a similar way and could allow hitstun/damage scaling resets. On a few occasions the bomb has also saved me from combos by detonating and hitting both of us. Its messy, but I’ll take it over losing 750k from a decent combo.

The assist is definitely risky (you can get into “hot potato” situations if the opponent knows they can hit it back at you), but I feel like it can add a lot to certain teams, and it has a unique role that can’t be filled by his voomerang assist. Once I streamline things maybe I’ll make a video on all of its uses for you guys, assuming someone doesn’t beat me to it.

And I hate Fuerte, but I can see how a hardcore Fuerte player would be drawn to the ridiculousness of Joe. Lol

You serve a solid point, and thank you

The Fuerte love is so bountiful <3 Dunno bout you guys, but I guess I’m drawn to characters with flashy moves, over the top personalities, and strong mix up games shrug

About approach options, that’s pretty much what I use to get in most of the time. Depending on the matchup I like to mix in super jump M Voomerangs (time it so the arc of the super jump follows the Voomerang on the way down) or super jump M RHK’s (not that safe against Sentinel and anybody with a good anti air, but on block or hit, you can airdash in for a mixup). If you know you’re gonna get pushblocked, immediately slide and :dp:+:m: to keep the momentum going. Don’t forget about Joe’s kara airdash too.

I use Groovy Upper to extend Tron’s corner combos. Personally, I never use Joe as an assist outside of that, Tron’s flame and Shuma’s lazer are just too good. I do like his Voomerang assist though d(~_~d)

I use groovy upper inside combos and occasionally as anti air…

I go with voomerang usually.

I just use voomerang assist personally, I haven’t found too much out of Joe’s assists. Also, IAD S is my favorite jump in in this game.

Well, if you’re not already relying on one of his other assists heavily, I’d spend some time experimenting with Shocking Pink. Its golden if used correctly. And hilarious in all of its applications.

he uses the medium bomb when he uses that assist right?

I’m with Loli-Zero, I think Shocking Pink is Joe’s best assist because it’s so versatile. First of all, even if Joe gets hit, the bomb still comes out, making it like Hidden Missiles in that respect. I also found it to be a great assist for zoning teams; Arthur can carry the bomb across the screen with his projectiles, which is awesome because it controls a lot of space. I also use it to help Haggar get in, because he can punch it and then wavedash after it.

I’m definitely going to try Loli-Zero’s ingenius :s:+:a1: OTG set up, that’s really creative.

Awesome, thank you for the detailed response, this should really improve my game. I was just wondering if you could shed some light on how to perform his kara airdash? :atk:+:atk:, :h:~:m:?

Yeah that’s it. The Brady guide has it written pretty much like you said: :l:+:m:, :l:~:m:

But you can also press: :l:+:m:, :l:+:m:+:s:

Same dealio, but I find it easier. His kara airdash isn’t all that fast, but it can be the last little push you need to get in.
