Hey, just wanted to ask this question to some Ken players. Is Alex a bad matchup for Ken? I’m not like an exceptional player or anything, but I seem to have the most trouble against people who play Alex. Are there certain rules on what you should not do/look out for etc as Ken vs Alex? Sorry if its a noob question.
Yeah, I need help too. If Alex gets a knockdown, he starts doing that annoying mix up: cross up short stomp or a c.Roundhouse. What can I do after a blocked cross up Stomp? Alex is actually quite far for ken to grab him… It’s probably my own fault for get into that situation in the first place, but whenever I get a knockdown, it seems that the Alex player only needs to do an EX Stomp to get out, so I can’t play my knockdown mix up on him. Is it possible to stuff a EX Stomp? I’ve tried with ken’s s.strong but I can’t get it to work. Thanks for the help.
First off keep in mind that ken owns alex. You can reversal a shitload of the crap he pulls off.You can keep him at bay with your cr.fwd.And you own him in the air with ex-tatsu.It seems you guys are playin against people who spam the same shit over and over.Try to bait their moves. The stomp is actually just confusing at first.Remember that u can dash out of it pure and simple. You can parry it.You can jump back roundhouse it.You can dragon it, etc.And yes you can stuff it.If ur missing then you’re probably not doing it fast enough as i know u can uoh them out of it.
I don’t like cr.mk against alex. It gets beat by his standing mk, and if you whiff it, he can EX shoulder. Zone and try to punish his whiffed normals with standing/crouching mp. Jump back hk is fairly safe anti-air when he jumps in. You don’t need to pressure him, just keep him away.
This seems to make sense. However I was playing against a decent player and he was saying that as a Ken player its best to rush Alex down and keep the pressure on him? Or is it best to play defensive and zone only. Was he giving false advice or can this also work?
The reason I prefer to play patiently is because Ken has more arsenal than Alex and doesn’t need to take chances in this matchup. If you rush down Alex and he gets a lucky parry -> knockdown, he can be quite a threat and you’re forced to start guessing. On the other hand, if he’s more comfortable being the aggressor, then attacking him and taking him out of his comfort zone may work just as well. My personal favorite is cr.lk -> cr.lk -> lp srk :wgrin:
When you block ex elbow (his charge move that hits twice), you can Shippu and you can hit him during recovery.
Low strong is a great counter poke to alex’s normals. Stick it out often and super if it connects.
For countering the stomp…just parry it. Even the ex version is a single hit. After a knockdown, get right on him and bait it out. Parry and punish. If Alex knocks YOU down and tries to confuse you with the stomp, just parry in one direction. You’ll either get a “just defend” or a parry.
Ken can turtle well against Alex or Ken can rush. I tend to turtle more in this matchup unless I get a knockdown by super.
Just remember that in order for them to beat you, guys like Alex, Hugo, and Zangief need to be near you. You have the ability to keep them away and run all over the place if you want to, and because they’re slow, it’ll be hard for them to catch up. Stick and move, stick and move!
just play alex like how u would play against hugo…seriously…alex cant handle kens footsies and pressure, lucky for you alex doesnt have a really good command throw like hugos…so u can force mistakes way easier…jump ex hurricane FTW
