i’ve been having problems against people who grab a lot. when i notice they like to grab sometimes even when i anticipate it i can’t tech it (even mashing lp + lk if i know it’s coming). any tips on how to deal with them? i haven’t had issues with it in other games, but i’m not an experienced player by any means, so even basic advice would be really helpful.
Are you crouching while mashing throw? Because crouch tech option selects aren’t possible in Skullgirls.
Other than that, all I can offer you is to learn to time it better. Find some friends, play online, ask them to play throw-heavy and practice timing your throw techs.
On topic, try and keep your opponent out of that range if you can’t tech throws very well. Throws in this ain’t shit compared to ST walk up st.LK with Bison into tick throws all day, I abused that shit on people that couldn’t soften throws very well.
Well if you can see the throws coming try jumping to make them whiff. Once that happens you get a free combo starting from a jumping attack. It’s risky but might win you the match.
As someone who uses throw often, all I can say is jump if you think its coming. If you are getting punched then thrown, mashing probably wont work because you’ll just wind up hitting throw in hit/blockstun. Learn to identify setups. Chances are if you are putting up a good defense people will opt to just throw you. I’m not sure which characters you use but use pokes effectively and keep them of throw range.
And of course, be the thrower, not the throwee :D. ESTABLISH DOMINANCE!
I don’t think comparisons work like that. Can you combo for half life damage off a throw in 3S? In which game is landing a throw harder (getting into the distance, having setups, opponents options, …)? Etc. Similar/same tech window doesn’t really mean anything if throws are worse overall in either game.
What? That’s not relevant here. The tech window refers to how much time you have to tech, after the throwing player has hit their throw button. Risk/reward of throws doesn’t change that.
I believe the tech window was set to be that small for a reason. The primary one being that throws in a 2D game being easily techable on reaction (rather on anticipation) are plain wrong.
