Help regarding Sanwa JLF-TPRG-8BYT-SK

I recently bought the Sanwa JLF silent lever to put on my Hori HRAP5 PS4.

everything is fine and feels good, but when i get into any game i find the diagonals are very unresponsive.
for example to jump forward, if i push the stick up and forward, i tend to either get a neutral jump or a forward walk.

I went into button checks in both SFV and Tekken 7 and noticed that the stick always reads up or forward/back before it reads the diagonal and many times, doesn’t read the diagonal at all…

now my question is, is this just a quirk of the JLF silent stick in general? or are the actuators too sensitive/dull? I am trying to used to the new force needed to jump forward/back but it is very inconsistent even when i do it slowly so thought I’d give the forums a shot.

Thanks for any help/advice/thoughts in advance

It should be no dificulty once you have all switches working fine, if you get neutral jump by the actuator pressing both foward and up switches then 1 of them has problem and your stick will fail in 1 of 3 cardinals (left, right, up).

BTW if you’re using square gate on it diagonals should be even easier.
(that’s the con of silent stick, you don’t know where you are…hope your version allow you to feel the switch pressing, make a new test being based on this tip)

thanks for the info.

couple quick questions.
how would i check for the actuators?
i have tried many times and constantly get neutral jump or left/right when i press diagonal.
your reply makes it sound as if i can hear which actuator is being activated correct?

secondly… how would i go about fixing it?

edit: i am using an octagonal gate but have tested with a square gate as well

really appreciate the help

There are no actuators, there is 1 actuator and 1 thing you must have in mind, there is no switch for diagonal, you are in diagonal region by pressing 2 switches at same time so if you don’t miss any cardinal direction at all, then the stick is perfectly fine and it seems like you must get used to it. Question is, r u used to jp sticks?

Regarding the click sound you supposed to hear the switch being activated if the stick wasn’t a silent one, but i know the switches in most recent silent jlf’s are a bit hard and you can feel any direction being activated. I recommend you to try to notice if (single) left, right or up fails sometimes, if never fails then is 100% ok, then go to the next step, put SQ gate back cause this thing won’t never lie to you, feel the corners (you NEVER suppose to miss a diagonal input in the sq gate corner, octo needs re-adaptation) and test it again having this words in mind.

After this, you suppose to know if is you or the stick’s fault =)

haha it may be me needing to adjust to it… the only stick i have ever used is this Hori HRAP. so the lever i am used to is the hayabusa… just got the jlf to get something quieter but after having a hard time with the diagonals (particularly up diagonals) just thought id throw it out there.

will give your tips a try! tyvm

so after a few weeks, i realized that the issue was all about my familiarity with the parts.

I had switched 3 things, 1.silent stick 2.octagate 3.battop

after changing both the octogate and battop i found much more consistency with my inputs.

Octogate AND Bat Top? Dear lord! Why don’t you also put a 4LB spring inside it while you’re at it. Then, and only then, will your JLF’s transformation into a Happ Super be complete!

“Do it!”

lol i know right.

I just thought i would give it a try, obviously didnt consider the impact or simply thought the impact wouldn’t be so large lol

How much experience do you have with JLF sticks?

If your JLF has suddenly stopped feeling/operating like your used to and you can’t figure out why, you can always resort to the nuclear option and just replace the whole thing. You can get New JLF’s at Focusattack.com for $20.

And from my experience, swapping out JLF’s with New ones is insanely easy on most sticks.
